A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Original post by aimerliny

I thought it might be good to start our own thread. We're all in the same boat, and we can help each other find things we need, vent about issues, support each other's diets.

Anyone interested?

I do not like my arms. Does anyone know where I can get a wrap that slips on... not a bolero jacket. I have seen them before at a wedding and I should have asked them where they got them. The bride and the BM had them. Thanks!

Ask the salon where you order your dress from. The should be able to order extra material for your gown that they can then make a wrap for you. I know my friend did this for the bridesmaid dresses we wore for her wedding.

Hi!
Yeah, I know they can but I saw these wraps like I never seen before that had arms. I am going to try to convince my FHto call the groom's mom and ask her to find out the name of the place where they got all the dresses.
I am driving him crazy!

Have you tried them both on? You should fashion show them to us and we can help you choose. =)

I am going to RK Bridal in mid Oct, I will have pics lol

CaCRmr,
The reason I want to be barefoot is that I grew up on a farm, and never wore shoes, ever, except for school and stuff. I love to be barefoot, I'm a country girl for sure, and it reminds me of being on the farm with my family. Since my mom and dad have both passed away, it's just something special for me to do, it reminds me of when I was little and they were still here. Thats all. I will have to photograph the exact ones that I'm going to wear, I think they're much prettier. I'll do it this weekend if I can find the time. Two weeks til the wedding and still so much to do!!! And I work full time and go to school four nights a week, tight schedule.

That's wonderful that you want to go barefoot. I would love to see a picture (when you get a chance of course )

I'm here!! Just enjoying still being a newlywed and getting ready to complete my thank-yous! I can't believe the wedding was 4 months ago. I'm still not ready to go, but I'm feeling much better than I did during the first 2 months after the wedding when I was really sad about not planning and/or never having a wedding again hehehe

I love this thread!

Girls, I need some help. I need to know if any of these stores have plus size samples. I've very embarassed about my size and I would hate to go to a store and not be able to fit in anything. Also, I'm too embarassed to call and ask.

Bridal Suite of Centereach
Helen's Private Collection
Burtons Bridal
Carmela Bridal
Adrienne's
Bridal Refections

Thanks for your help!

I'll be honest, I had a hard time finding dresses with sleeves, I was told they were not 'IN' and I should get strapless because that was 'IN'... needless to say, I walked out of the store VERY quickly!!!

I went to Paradise Bridal and the customer service was professional and pleasant. I didn't have a problem with them.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

I got my dress at Flowerama in Glendale...needless to say the one I tried on was a size 12 so it was completely open in the back. I am talking the corset was shoulder to shoulder! Obviously I got the general idea of what it would look like and they ordered it in my size.

The only place (keep in mind I am from Queens and wouldnt go that far east for a dress) that had plus size dresses to try on was at RK. They had a nice selection but nothing that struck my fancy.

Also remember you can pretty much order any dress that you want and they just order it in a bigger size. I never went out intentionally looking for a plus sized dress.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

I found the biggest selection of dresses to try on in sizes 18 - 26 (it was nice to try on some that were actually big!) at:

Commack Wedding Center
Bridal Suite of Bayshore
Beautiful Bride (Lynbrook)
Bridal Suite of Patchogue

They are out there girls...but I do recommend calling ahead before your waste your time and embaressment!

Good luck!

I went to Commack Wedding Center also and they had a huge selection of dresses. Only if possible do not go on a Sat. The day I went it was really crowded and they said I could only try on 6 dresses.

I also went to Bridal Suite in Huntington and they had just a few plus sized dresses. But the ladies there were very nice.

I would love to not wear shoes the entire day. Any time I wear any sort of heel my feet cramp up. I think i'm just going to get sandals and wear those...but I know as soon as i get to the reception they are def coming off.

I bought plain old stapy sandals with a small heal that I wore from the moment I got dressed until right after formal pictures. After that it was sneakers all the way!

I bought a sandal with a chunky heel...but I'm soooo tempted to wear sneakers...but my sneakers would peek from under the dress so i dunno...

Another plus size bride who married this past weekend. Here is a photo that we took before the ceremony:

I got so many compliments on my dress, and everyone said I looked great. I didn't think I would, but I felt pretty on my wedding day.
