Re: Adding salt to the wound
My father raised me as a Mets/Yankees fan. He was the biggest Yankee fan I've ever known. He worked the stadium one year just to be able to boast and say he worked there. At his funeral, my brothers friends had a flower arrangement of a Yankee baseball. And even I can admit ~ the Sox DESERVED to win after the way the played.

That Yankees team will FOREVER be known as the biggest CHOKE team in ALL of professional sports.
No question about it. And they will forever be known as the biggest choke artists because frankly I don't see how another team can gag harder than the Yankees did two weeks ago.
Sure their big Choke as you put it will never be forgotten, But, They are and always will be the greatest team in baseball with the most positive history and the most records ever set by any team!! Where do those Mets and red sox rank on the positive record list, umm..the bottom of the list with everyone else!! Enjoy it all now, because next season, in about May, the Mets will probably already be out of playoff contention and the red sox probably will to when they loose all their Aces in the off season!!! They'll be raising that flag on opening day, but there will probably only be a handful of players there that actually won it!!Have a great off season everyone!!![]()

Re: Adding salt to the wound
OK, now you've gotten my ire upYou wanna talk facts let's talk facts
A. Forget about the 26 championships. That's a bunch of crap. Because in the early years there weren't as many teams, the season was shorter and the rules were alot different. The landscape was alot different, so that 26 figure is just some overrated number to show around town
B. Yankee fans are all the same. You immediately wanna go after the Mets about we're pathetic and we're losers, when your team loses. Face facts, we don't care about you. Never did, never will. We have our own division to worry about and the National League. And we have alot of problems of our own to address, namely pitching, namely management, namely a strong core of players. The only time we care about you is those six games in June. Do we suck? Yes. That's what we have to work on, it doesn't concern you. It's gonna take time, but one day we'll get there. The thing that gets me is these stupid fans, present company excluded, don't know the difference between a fastball and melon ball. That when you ask them who Donny Baseball is, they ask who. Because face facts, that's 75% of your fanbase. Not to say that the Mets have bandwagon fans, but I'd argue that we have less than in the Bronx. 50% of that 75% are girls who only root for the Yankees because 'my boyfriend does' or because 'Derek is cute'.
C. I LOVE the comment that said, 'red sox probably will be out when they loose all their Aces in the off season!!!' Admit it folks, Pedro will be with you as your ace next year, and the Bronx faithful will cheer and follow him like a bunch of sheep, forgetting the hatred of years ago. When Pedro drills Ortiz, he'll be 'pitching inside' instead of being a 'headhunter' And I know Felicia and Boop will say, 'I hate Pedro and I don't want him here' But you'll take him and you'll like it and before long, he'll be getting the keys to the city with the rest and he'll be NY's favorite son. But, as we found out a big payroll does not a championship team make. As Mike Lupica from the NY Daily News says, $194 million buys alot of things, but it does not buy the heart and soul of a champion' True words indeed. See, what the Yankees have become are just a bunch of great individual all stars. They're not a team. They don't play like a team. They don't have desire like a team and they don't care about the success of the team. They care about themselves. I'm not saying the Mets are any better right now, but at least when we spend money, we do it for the good of the team, whether or not we're successful, we do it for the team, not to stick it to our rivals.
It's because of this that I love watching the Yankees self destruct and I love watching the Bronx faithful scratch their heads. Because the more George spends, the more the team becomes embroiled in turmoil.

Re: Adding salt to the wound
Well said Don!Its very easy to be a Yanks fan now. But where will all these fans be when the Yanks start to stick up the joint once again?
Once the Mets start rolling (which they will)... you will see plenty jumping ship back to the Mets. Mets fans are loyal and frankly don't give a crap when people say they suck cause a true Mets fan will AGREE with you. The Mets announced their cable network deal. And if you don't understand the importance of that... note that Cablevision is now sueing the Mets over their announcement going to Time Warner.
Hell even one of the biggest Yankee fans on here (Oct2004Bride) admitted she was once a Mets fan. Talk about flip-flopping at its greatest.
I haven't seen it that bad since somebody by the name of John.

Once the Mets start winning... she will come back home.

i was responding to Boop's post
and let's not go there, because i speak the truth
26 championships are MEANINGLESS when the rules and the of baseball have drastically changed
ever see the movie 61*? Remember the reason they waited close to 20 years to say that Maris broke Ruth's record? Because when Maris did it, he had a longer season to do it in. They oughta have an asterik next to the 26.

Read any paper... any sports page... anything sports related. They all agree.
This Yanks team goes down as the greatest choke artists of all professional sports.
I don't have to go there because we are ALREADY THERE.

So true. But Backman isn't coming back to the Mets. I believe they broke off talks and he will probably go to Arizona. And you make an excellent point about the movie 61. They should put an asterick next to the 26 championships.

Blah... overrated.
All yanks fans know George will open the wallet even more... spend 250mil next season... piss off the entire baseball community in the process... to try to fix the disaster he created this year.
You know I wonder... and this may sound crappy... but whats gonna happen when George's health gets to the point where he can't manage the operations of the team and spend the cash? Do you think a new owner will come in and do the same? NOT!
The yanks will be doomed once 'The Boss' is gone.

I'm sorry Don. You know I like ya , but I cannot keep my mouth shut this time...
the above statement may be one of the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
You can use whatever 'spin' you want to try and disparage what the Yankees have accomplished over the years..
But however you want to classify it, it will never change the fact that we are the winningest team in baseball. Even an * next to 26 Championships (which would NEVER happen anyhow, so its not even a relevant point) would ever change THE FACTS.
As for all of your other statements... basically its very well said and I agree with a portion of it, actually . But there is too much to get into there, so alas that is a discussion left for another time
