You wanna talk facts let's talk facts
A. Forget about the 26 championships. That's a bunch of crap. Because in the early years there weren't as many teams, the season was shorter and the rules were alot different. The landscape was alot different, so that 26 figure is just some overrated number to show around town
wah wah wah
no need to talk about this...just a MET fan crying.

i notice no one is responding to me and are choosing to go after DJPill
could it be because they don't know how to address the truth??![]()
Well first of all, DjPill is an easier target

And secondly, I do not feel that the majority of your comments are relevant as they are not directed towards me per se. For starters, I don't HATE the Mets, nor do I care how they fare during the season. I typically would like to see them lose and it gives me some sort of joy to see them at the bottom of the barrell year after year, but I reserve my 'hatred' for the Sox and the Braves.
In addition, I am not one of the 'bandwagoners' who 'root for the Yankees because Derek Jeter is cute or their boyfriend likes them'
(A) I think JEter is ugly and
(B) my HUSBAND hates the Yankees
As for your other comments about Pedro and the like, well I have nothing to say about it until something actually happens on that front. Let the Suxx celebrate their miraculous victory before we begin talking next season, ok

B. Yankee fans are all the same. You immediately wanna go after the Mets about we're pathetic and we're losers, when your team loses. Face facts, we don't care about you. Never did, never will. We have our own division to worry about and the National League. And we have alot of problems of our own to address, namely pitching, namely management, namely a strong core of players. The only time we care about you is those six games in June. Do we suck? Yes. That's what we have to work on, it doesn't concern you. It's gonna take time, but one day we'll get there. The thing that gets me is these stupid fans, present company excluded, don't know the difference between a fastball and melon ball. That when you ask them who Donny Baseball is, they ask who. Because face facts, that's 75% of your fanbase. Not to say that the Mets have bandwagon fans, but I'd argue that we have less than in the Bronx. 50% of that 75% are girls who only root for the Yankees because 'my boyfriend does' or because 'Derek is cute'.
.
OK Don, I have a problem with this one. You say all Yankee fans are alike, turning to the Mets. Well, you are a Mets fan, yet your team lost so you turned to bashing Yankees. Why wouldn't I bash the Mets if you are bashing the Yankees?? Just so good old fun, turn about fair play!!
Oh and as for the choking, yeah they chocked, but the Mets choked a LOT EARLIER in the season than the Yankees did!!!

C. I LOVE the comment that said, 'red sox probably will be out when they loose all their Aces in the off season!!!' Admit it folks, Pedro will be with you as your ace next year, and the Bronx faithful will cheer and follow him like a bunch of sheep, forgetting the hatred of years ago. When Pedro drills Ortiz, he'll be 'pitching inside' instead of being a 'headhunter' And I know Felicia and Boop will say, 'I hate Pedro and I don't want him here' But you'll take him and you'll like it and before long, he'll be getting the keys to the city with the rest and he'll be NY's favorite son. But, as we found out a big payroll does not a championship team make. As Mike Lupica from the NY Daily News says, $194 million buys alot of things, but it does not buy the heart and soul of a champion' True words indeed. See, what the Yankees have become are just a bunch of great individual all stars. They're not a team. They don't play like a team. They don't have desire like a team and they don't care about the success of the team. They care about themselves. I'm not saying the Mets are any better right now, but at least when we spend money, we do it for the good of the team, whether or not we're successful, we do it for the team, not to stick it to our rivals.
It's because of this that I love watching the Yankees self destruct and I love watching the Bronx faithful scratch their heads. Because the more George spends, the more the team becomes embroiled in turmoil.
I agree with you on C, but not on A & B.

Re: Adding salt to the wound
OK, one final post from me for the night and i will adress each of you.Felicia: The stupidest comment ever? Hardly. It's very simple. Baseball has been around for 100 years. Of those 100 years, the Yankees have won 26 championships. And in many of those championship wins, there were fewer teams, shorter schedules and a much different format than there is today. I'm not disputing the fact that they won them. I am disputing the hype people use when they talk about it. Bottowm Line: It's not as a big of an accomplishment as people make it out to be, under the circumstances. It is the Yankees that are SPINNING this, not me. And what I just said are FACTS. They did it to Maris in 61 because when he broke Ruth's record, he had a longer season to do it in. Hence the reason I feel they should put an asterik next to the 26. You're right, they won't because George owns 3/4 of MLB as is.
Oct2004bride: No response for you. i only respond to real Yankee fans. Not jacked up baseball nuts who hate teams for the stupidest reasons imaginable. WAH WAH WAH, they traded Wally Backman, so now I hate the Mets. They traded away the 86 team, so now I hate the Mets, WAH WAH WAH. What the hell is that? I don't dispute your love for the Yanks, but I dispute your reasoning for turning on the Mets.
Boop78204: Frankly, I don't know what the hell you were talking about because your statement kinda rambled. So, I'm sure there was a point wrapped up in there somewhere, but darned if I know where it is, so we'll leave it at that.
Good night all!!

Fair enough...throw out the 26 championships. Lets look at the recent past then:
1996-World Champions
1998-World Champions
1999-World Champions
2000-World Champions
2001-American League Champions
2003-American League Champions
I'm sure baseball hasn't changed THAT much since 1996.

Also what people have to realize is that the Mets have only been around for 40 years. They werent even around when the Yankees won half of the World Series. Maybe is we were around it would of been different.

Re: Adding salt to the wound
Boop, you seem to like to throw up the fact that the Mets choked first. Let's break it down.Like DJPill said, all the Met fans, including myself will agree that 'we suck' and we probably won't be in line for the playoffs for the next several years. The problem with the Met management is that they care too much about the Yankees and George having too much share of the New York market and fan base. What the Mets need to do is concentrate on their farm system and develop the home grown talent, like David Wright for example. Giving away Kazmir was a stupid move and I'm sure we'll pay for that. But we need to forget about the playoffs, the World Series and competing with the Yankees and concentrate on 'cleaning the house' and making it stronger. That means guys like Piazza, Floyd and Matsui are gone. I have no use for them. We need young, hungry, players, who we can develop and grow. So, when you say we choked, that's not the case. We lost to better teams because we didn't have our priorities straight and opted to go after the 'big name' like Glavine without really developing a solid pipeline of home grown talent. It was bound to happen. I'm glad we learned this in July and not September, or the Met fans would be throwing themselves in front of 7 trains all across the city.
The Yankees on the other hand, choked and choked big. When you consider that you have a team of All Stars and a $194 million payroll, there's no excuse, totally different. And for oct2004.bride to say the Mets need to fix 'everything', this is true, but I think we have 'less' to fix than the Yankees. Yes, we have to fix the usual issues with Mets: the pitching, the fielding, batting and management. But, so do the Yankees, and if they didn't, they wouldn't have choked. Plus, the one thing the Mets have over the Yankees right now is 'team unity'. Everyone on the Mets does it for the team and for the good of the team. Like I said, the Yankees are just a bunch of all stars without 'solid unity' They don't have ties to the organization like the team of the late 1990's. That's another advantage of having home grown talent. Guys like A-Rod, Lofton, Brown, they care about themselves and what records they are breaking. The Yanks need to get heart back, which is more important and harder to attain than talent. the Mets have the heart, now we need the talent.
