Announcing PG on TTC Board...

Original post by chichila15

hmmm... where should I start? Or shall I just go str8 to the point? Here goes:

There have been many pregnancy announcements lately. Though I'm genuinely happy about the news, and the huge change in each of their lives, I feel that posting their announcements on a board, where many women have been having a tough time TTC and/or keeping a pregnancy, is kinda mean - especially from pg ladies who hadn't frequented the TTC board.

I'm sure that at a preggo's height of excitement, the last thing that they realize is that it's insensitive to TTCers, but I thought that I'd bring it up to keep future announcements on the Parenting board.

What do you think?

And that point came across but like on the Newlywed board, we always have the Brides-to-be posting and asking questions. As much as we post and ask them to not post their questions, they still do. Its a never ending battle unfortunately.

exactly what is the never ending battle?

I think i am confused...

I agree and totally understand. Even though I have only been trying for a couple of months I can try to understand how some of you feel. I think we need to consider each other's feelings when we post.

I agree... many of us posts topics in places they don't 'belong'. How many times have I seen some topics on the Bridal boards 'NWR, but...'? Too many times... but just like some still asked that those girls organize their thoughts more appropriately on the other boards, I'm asking the same for here.

Re: Announcing PG on TTC Board...

I happen to agree to a certain point.....I think that TTC is a good place to post a PG because for however long we are TTC, thee comes a point where we have conceived and then it's time to move over to the parenting boards.

What I Don't agree with, but DO understand are the lurkers or previously married people that may be new to LIW because of a friend or relative (or are returning after a hiatus after their wedding)....I totally feel your pain about 'new' people announcing their PG, but what if they are the friend or sister of a regular poster whom you befriended but we don't know who they are.

Even if someone is a lurker, they should 'introduce' themselves.....BUT what if they know someone on here and DON'T want to be found out just yet?? I know that this is a minority, but it still happens. A few of us have had 'stalkers' that search our names and postings and then spread gossip like wildfire.

I dunno....it's a tough call. If someone is NEWLY PG and NEW to TTC-they should just go to parenting. TTC is for those who are in the midst of doing 'whatever happens, happes, charting, doing IUI, going for bloodwork....whatever TTC entails. TRYING to conceive.....

I DO apologize if I've upset anyone with my announcement...I tried to keep it a secret, but I just can't. I won't be posting much here anymore aside from support for those of you still TTC and the symptoms posts....BUT

I'LL MISS ALL OF YOU AND LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ON PARENTING REALLY SOON!!!! BABY DUST TO ALL OF YOU!!!!

NO NEED to apologize. You are a main example in my point. You don't know how happy I was to hear that you & Erin (emc) got your BFP.... we've been chatting thru these posts, and comparing experiences, stories, symptoms, etc. I'm sure that there are others that felt that connection with you, and have absolutely no hard feelings for your great news (I repeat, I'm SO happy for you! ). We'll miss you leaving our boards, and will follow you to Parenting to get an update on your pg status.

I'm excited for Shana. That being said, IMO I still feel that people who hadn't TTC, shouldn't announce on the TTC board. TTCers like Shana, are more than welcome to (and BETTER) update us on their news on the TTC board.

I disagree guys....
If and when I get preggo... you guys would be the first people I would want to share it with. Not the people I don't know on Parenting.

It just makes me very sad to think that you would want me to share it with others....

That was my thought when I read that. I know alot of you ladies have shared MANY intimate & struggling times with each other. Who else share the great news to but, with the woman that were there for you?

THIS is the stage i am at...

Why because i am new to TTC i should have to go to parenting?

am i misreading something?

Yes, some ladies who lurk and don't post at all of a sudden come here and announce they are pregnant. They are unknown to the consistant posters on TTC.

Re: Announcing PG on TTC Board...

I personally think hearing a pregnancy announcement on the TTC board is just another way of keeping us motivated and excited about finally getting the positive result ourselves.
Most of the people that announce that they are pregnant on the TTC board eventually move onto the Parenting Board anyway - so i don't understand why anyone would think anyone is being inconsiderate of others.

This is a monumental time in our lives and its evident that someone is going to get pregnant while ttcing and post it in the board. Just like Cheryl mentioned, I believe it good to hear about our fellow TTcing friends getting pregnant - it motivates us and gives us hope -

I think you're missing the beginning... the point of the post is about announcing a pregnancy. Not announcing that ur TTC.

Let me first say, I don't mean this in a negative way AT ALL but when you are TTC and it becomes a little more time consuming and difficult then you expected, it is very disheartening, depressing and upsetting. I don't think it is so easy to understand or be empathic until you keep getting BFNs and cry everytime someone, fictional or non fictional, announces they are pregnant. That is the best I can explain it.

Re: Announcing PG on TTC Board...

I have to ask: If you go to a supermarket, and know that you want to buy milk, would you go looking for it in the cereal aisle? Though milk goes in cereal, I'm sure you'd go to the dairy aisle, no?

Milk is announcing pregnancy; cereal is the TTC board; Dairy aisle is the Parenting board.

I hope this makes sense...

I think everyone at first lurks on TTC before you actually announce that you are officially trying to have a baby. I know that's what I did, I've been lurking here ever since I was married, mainly just wishing people good luck and sending BD, etc. before I finally got up the nerve to announcing a month or so ago that Dh and I actively trying to conceive

The issue is not that you should not be allowed to post on TTC or parenting or wherever. This forum in particlar is a great place to learn so much based on the experiences of those ladies who have been TTC for awhile and have 'graduated' to the parenting board.

The issue being discussed here is when you see posters who have hardly, if at all, posted on TTC but then come here to announce when they are Pregnant -- this when noone even knew they were trying to get pregnant, or don't really even know them per se. Is it wrong that they are doing this? Well no, of course not.. But I do in fact think its just a little strange (at least IMO it is strange) that if you never really posted on TTC much and you didn't really have that bond with the girls here who have been posting about testing, symptoms, charting, their personal experience with TTC etc, to then come HERE to announce a pregnancy. In those cases, wouldn't it make more sense to go over to the parenting board to make your announcement, no? Most of the TTCers also read the parenting boards (at least I do) and will still offer the same congratualtions nonetheless

As for those girls who ARE here and posting about TTC and all sorts of questions, well to me then it makes perfect sense to announce when you get your BFP and when you are preggo!

Again - I said it before, I am very happy to hear of ANY pregnancy announcement, no matter what the board! BUT sometimes I think that perhaps for the ladies who are really struggling wtih infertility and to then see an overabundance of preggo announcements from people we don't feel like we 'know' (on a board where the majority of the ladies are still trying to conceive ) Well I just think it gets really hard and that some discretion might be advisable, and that the proper place to announce in some cases might be Parenting.
