we rent a house from my parents for very cheap - if we owned a home and had mortgage to pay it would have been much more difficulte...

oh hell yes it's hard..that's why we booked on a Thursday and have a 2 1/2 year engagements..we wanted to spend the least amount because we are saving for a house too but get the RH & all the vendors we want & it's working out pretty well I must say

We are paying for the wedding ourselves also. My mom paid for my attire, but that is about it.

We paid for the majority of our wedding. It was hard but the benefit of paying for it yourself is you do not have to justify your decisions to any one.

Well my FH and I are paying for our own wedding, so this should be fun and stressful. Our parents can't really help us at all. But I know we can do it, God will help us. ......I don't know how to save though, any tips!!

-Try to put a little aside each check! Open an ING savings (you can do it online) so you get more interest than a savings in a bank. Seriously, even if some checks you can only put aside 100...SOMETHING!
-Bring bagged lunches to work instead of buying
-Cook at home for dinner instead of take out and going out to eat.
-Cut down on going out all the time. You still want to do it sometimes, dont get me wrong, but you will have to make some cuts in going out.
-Save your change and cash it in after a couple of months and put in savings. Fill up a large water container or something. This really adds up!!

More than just making little cuts here and there, what really started our savings was taking a ahrd look at our budget, as in income, and bills we absolutely must pay every month. Basically we subtracted the monthly bills from income and put that amount into savings. It's actually a pretty large amount on a montly basis. Doing that and sticking to it every month has helped a lot more than 'oh we'l cut back onStarbucks' because a lot of times that money just gets spent elsewhere.

We're paying for our wedding. Thankfully we both have good jobs and live at home, so it hasnt been too difficult. BUT, we've also had a 2 1/2 year engagement to give us time to save!

Yes that is the reason my wedding is in 2011 and soo far away bc we need to save. It is hard bc saving money is not easy but we are managing so far.
Same here I'm used to paying for everything myself so I knew when we would have to pay for the wedding as well. When I got engaged last year and I told everyone the wedding is in 2011 they're like 'why so far!' I'll move it up if they give me the money to pay for it!

Yes, it is very fustrating especially since FH is not working full time right now. Its hard to pay the bills and put money into our savings every week.

My parents gave us the initial deposit, and after that, we are on our own. We are saving aggressively, and yes it is hard. As it was mentioned, we figured out how much our bills were, and then were able to come up with a figure of how much we could afford to put away per paycheck. We opened a joint account, and on the 1st and 15th of every month, we make our deposits together. We also stay on top of each other to make sure we're not spending needlessly. I find it very hard because I have siblings with lots of babies, and it is always someone's birthday, baptism, etc. I want to spoil them so bad, and I used to, but now I have to cut back. Also, we go out a LOT less, and to me that is the hardest part. Going out to eat is our favorite activity! We have two gift certificates to a restaurant, we are holding on to them like they are gold, so that we can 'splurge' for a special occasion.

We are paying for it ourselves as well. My mom put down the money on the hall 1,000 but the rest is ours. She wants to help us with the last payment but she doesn't know if she def. can being that she flies to florida 20 times a year to see my nephews. I have been working 60-70 hours a week and fh got a part time job. We made the decision to have a big weddign so we knew we would have to work for it. It's exciting though every time we make a payment or book something!!

We're paying for our own wedding It's been very stressful, but I had been saving on my own a year before we even got engaged. I knew it was coming so I had about half of what I thought the wedding would cost. Of course I seem to be going over my budget though. Eek!

we're paying for our wedding ourselves. With the fact that my FH is out of work, and the only reliable source of income is from me, we're going to do a mini destination wedding with our bridal party, and then throw a reception at Captain Bill's in Bayshore a few months later for the rest of our friends/family. Luckily my FH has money put away from an inheritance, so we have that to help us out in case things are tight. Times are tough, and unfortunately I had to forgo my big dream wedding
