Is AV Ristorante Italiano still open near Union Station? FH took me there once and they had the BEST pizza. Real Napoletean style like you get at Lombardi's or Grimaldi's in NYC. That was his response to my complaint that we couldn't get decent pizza. He still hasn't come up with one that satisfies me on bagels, though he did try with Whatsa Bagel (he used to live in Cleveland Park). They were petty good, but hey, I was raised on Magic Bagel...I've got high standards!

Whatsa Bagel has a branch in Bethesda (they just call it Bethesda Bagels) if you're out in the 'burbs. The service is much better.

Mmm... Bagels. We should do a GTG with bagels.

That sounds like fun if we could figure out how to organize it (since we're all running to NY in our free time )

Hi ladies! FH and I live in Alexandria and work in the District. I'd totally be up for a GTG down here. We should plan one!

Also, two places for absolutely authentic bagels and pizza:

Bagel Shop on King Street at Bradley Center in Alexandria (get off of 395 going east twds Old Town, and its in the plaza with Giant, Starbucks, Maggie Moos, etc).

The Italian Store, on Rte 29 over in the Court House area. We get there via the GW Pkwy going north, get off on the Spout Run exit, hang a right into the plaza with the Giant, CVS, bike shop, etc. It's the best pizza down here. Sadly though, they don't do garlic knots.

I used to live across the street from the Italian Store!!! Sure do miss that! If you are in Alexandria, you need to check out Valentinos-I like their pizza better than the Italian Store!!!!

OK, that settles it, I have to move to VA! Can't rattle off that many good places in MD, though there are a few - Bethesda Bagels in Bethesda, Bagel City in Rockville, and Royal Bagel Bakery in Germantown.

There are also a few good pizza places in Dupont but I'm usually there to sober up so maybe I'm misjudging...

I used to live in Silver Spring, and them moved here to Alex. Love it here. But there are lots of nice places in MD too.

Anyway, a GTG would be super. we should try to do one.

That's funny! I used to work for another company in the DC area and we had a colleague visit us occasionally from from Charlotte. He was originally from NYC. He used to complain about how terrible the pizza was there--compared to North Carolina, the pizza in DC was heaven!

and i dont know about you girls but there are NO dunkin donuts!!! i need my DDFVIC!! (french vanilla iced coffee)

although one JUST opened in falls church, FINALLY!! but im so used to there being one around every block!

I live in Clarendon (Arlington, VA).

There is a paper store around the corner from me, they might know of calligraphers.

Its called the Papery and its on Clarendon Blvd between Fillmore and Edgewood.

Isn't it fun planning a NY wedding from down here? I am going up to NY every other weekend this summer - no beach time.

They just opened a DD/Baskin Robbins in Lyon Village/Clarendon and there is one in Potomac Yard in Alexandria (the big shopping center with Old Navy and target).

YAY!!!!

I used to live in Lyon Village before we got married---love love love Clarendon--was at the ballroom for HH last night!

Heyyyy girls--- i know im coming in late-- but I lived in Alexandria.... and now are moving to Oxon Hill ( the nice part- dont worry)

we need to do a gtg!! I met Jean last year at pentagon row!!!

hands down-- best italian food is Filomena's in G-town... their sauce is not offensive.
