ANY nurses, doctors or anybody who works in a hospital

ok i dont know how normal this is and how long it usually takes. But my dad is still in the hospital, yesterday they did a heart test and he has 2 arteries blocked so they told him yesterday that they will transfer him to Lennox hill hospital in the city. They are transferring him to this hospital because they specialize in the heart and are very good. He will either get the balloon which they think most likely, or bypass. When he gets to lennox hill they'll figure it out more. BUT since last night around 5pm they told my dad that lennox hill is sending over an ambulance to get him. UHMMMMM i just called my dad before bc i was going to go after work to lennox hill but they STILL haven't transferred him. When i spoke to him he got off the phone quickly bc the nurse was calling lennox hill at that moment to find out W** is going on.

Now i guess it depends on availability of the ambulance and probably is hard with the fact that they have to go from manhattan to queens to get him and then back but still its been almost 24 hours.

I just told fh a few mins ago and he couldn't believe, and even said he'll drive him if its possible. Would they even allow that? or does the ambulance have to bring him? and is it normal to wait this D*mn long, its getting frustrating.

It does take awhile. They also need to make sure the room is available for him at Lennox. My dad had quadruple bypass so FM me if you have any questions.

i guess it is normal. I mean last night i told my dad at 8pm when we left to go in the room and just relax bc they probably wont get him until like 2 or 3am or something like that, but i didn't expect it to be quite this long.

Thanks

they have to wait for an open bed is the most likely case

unfortunately ... it takes forever

at mercy, my dad waited 36 hours to be transferred to north shore, he passed away during transport .... if they had moved him / taken proper precautions immediately, he might still be here

also, he had to wait in the cardiac ER for 48 hours before he got a bed in the regular cardiac unit ... it takes a long time

well hes in a hospital in queens and has been in the room since last sunday night so about 9 days now. He is fine now, and is walking around and all. Just that he is going to need the surgery soon since he has 2 arteries blocked, but its not a situation where he needs it done within the next few hours. I guess its more the frustration about it.

Re: ANY nurses, doctors or anybody who works in a hospital

wondering why they aren't sending him to st. francis which is like the best heart hospital?

i have bad vibes with lennox b/c my mom was in there (like, 20 years ago) and it was just an awful experience but that was in psych so it's totally different.

i guess his doc must be affiliated with lennox, but my dad, my BILs dads were all at st francis.

i'm not sure why it's taking so long to get him

yes, i am glad they're moving him to a different hospital that specializes in the heart. They did great at the hospital he is in now too so not that this one was bad. His EKG was normal but one doctor said she just thinks something is not right and is the one who did all the extensive tests otherwise they wouldn't have found out.

yah i re-read what i wrote and didnt mean to scare you. im glad hes doing much better, the hospitals everywhere are sooo crowded and they have a priority list for beds ... i guess its better that he isnt on TOP of the list (meaning he isnt in the most critical condition)

Re: ANY nurses, doctors or anybody who works in a hospital

Denise, my dad has probably spent more of my adult life in hospitals, due to heart and many other issues, (he's had 3 heart attacks plus some) than out of them unfortunately so I've gotten to know them really well.

Unfortunately this is very normal and very expected. They NEVER transfer you when they say they will and they usually never actually operate or perform any procedure until way later than they say they will. And no, no one can transport him except the ambulance. As the other girls have said, it depends on lots of things, normally a bed actually being open in the second hospital. No sense bringing him there if he's going to end up laying in his bed in the hallway (been there) waiting for a room to open, so it's better for now if he stays where he is.

FM me if you have any questions.

i have no idea. My dad asked to go to LIJ but they said Lennox. It might be because many of the specialists who would come to the hospital a few times a week are affiliated with Lennox but not sure. It is a very good hospital though, and my mom spoke to a few doctors she knows to ask them about it.
