ANY nurses, doctors or anybody who works in a hospital
Original post by Espo22
ok i dont know how normal this is and how long it usually takes. But my dad is still in the hospital, yesterday they did a heart test and he has 2 arteries blocked so they told him yesterday that they will transfer him to Lennox hill hospital in the city. They are transferring him to this hospital because they specialize in the heart and are very good. He will either get the balloon which they think most likely, or bypass. When he gets to lennox hill they'll figure it out more. BUT since last night around 5pm they told my dad that lennox hill is sending over an ambulance to get him. UHMMMMM i just called my dad before bc i was going to go after work to lennox hill but they STILL haven't transferred him. When i spoke to him he got off the phone quickly bc the nurse was calling lennox hill at that moment to find out W** is going on.
Now i guess it depends on availability of the ambulance and probably is hard with the fact that they have to go from manhattan to queens to get him and then back but still its been almost 24 hours.
I just told fh a few mins ago and he couldn't believe, and even said he'll drive him if its possible. Would they even allow that? or does the ambulance have to bring him? and is it normal to wait this D*mn long, its getting frustrating.

No problem! I'am here for you! And your FH uncle was right, sometimes they go in through the arm or the groin for the angioplasty i.e. the ballon procedure!

I am actually a cardiovascular technologist (I work at St. Francis Hospital and Long Beach) so what that means is i do Echogardigrams of the heart! Your dad will be fine. People go throught these type's of things everyday! The balloon will be better b/c it's not open heart surgery but their is a slight chance the plaque could built back up and clog the artery again. I'am sure there going to do the best thing for him! If you have anymore question let me know!
hey!
I'm a Vascular Technologist in the bronx, and I work with another vasc tech named Lisa Scarolla, she used to (or maybe still does) work at St. Francis...do you know her by any chance?!

No, it's a big hospital but i'll keep an ear out for her name! It's funny i was just reading your thread about you working as a vascular tech. You do sonograms right! Where did you go to school? You do the vein mapping for the surgens, DVT, Arterial doppler's ext.....

HI Denise,,,
Do not move him.....
If you take him they may make you sign a release and it is a liability issue....
Let them take him....
I hope everything will be ok.....

a lot of times when a patient transfers from one hospital to another, they have to find an accepting physician (unless the physician from one hospital will follow the patient to the next) + they have to wait for an available bed + a lot of times they need to get insurance clearance, especially if you have an HMO.....if the hospital specializes in cardiac procedures and the hospital he is currently at doesn't....the insurance shouldn't pose a problem, unless the hospital he is supposed to be transferred to is not in network with his insurance.

yea...ultrasound, doppler - basically lower/upper venous for DVT/insufficiency, arterials (for stenosis, occlusions, bypass grafts), vein mappings for ablation, cerebrovasc studies, dialysis access site evals, aneurysmal disease, so much more! lol it's a great job but i work for the head of vasc surgery for montefiore so it's SOOOO busy! but im sure you know what that's like working as a cardiovasc tech at st. francis!
i went to LIU in brooklyn. how bout you, where'd you go to school?!

yeah many of the doctors said they will be there. I guess now we just play the waiting game.

at mercy, my dad waited 36 hours to be transferred to north shore, he passed away during transport .... if they had moved him / taken proper precautions immediately, he might still be here

Re: ANY nurses, doctors or anybody who works in a hospital
I didn't read all the other post so I dont know if this was said already but, dont take him let the ambulance take him. A couple of reasons it could be taking so long is that they need to make sure a bed is available at the other hospital. Also once they have a bed and they call an ambulance since this is not an emergency it may take a while before they come and pick up the patient. Unfortunately this happens often and i'm sorry about this happening to your dad. I really hope he can be fine with the balloon and not need open heart surgery. God Bless! Keep Us posted

thank you ladies...yeah i wouldn't just take him out, i would've asked the hospital first if we could do this although i knew it was very unlikely it would happen.
He is still waiting

I hope they move your dad soon. there is nothing worse than the waiting game when someone close to you needs medical assistance.

i just hope that maybe they moved his this morning. I leave my house early so if he called i wouldn't know. I feel bad to even call now to ask bc i am sure it makes it worse to have ppl keep calling to ask if hes been moved.
thank you

Wow still haven't moved him yet? That is definitely frustrating! I will keep my fingers crossed that it happens soon.
