OK, i have a bit of a situation which seems like this is all i deal with lately
Ill explain the situation and then ask for the info i need.
Ok so 2 weeks ago i bought something at swarovski, it was the wrong price so had to do a return and about $160 was supposed to be put back into my bank account since i used a debit card. I even asked the girl right after how long it will take until its back into my account and she said it should go in right away. Well days go by and nothing, i called them 3x and the people who pick up dont even know w** is going on. FINALLY today i call and this lady was able to help me, she found the transaction from the date i told her and then said to me that the return was done and that instead of cash back the cashier did store credit, now im annoyed and told the lady that i specifically asked the girl ahead of time if they do cash back or store credit and she said they do both so i can pick which one i want and i said cash back, and like i said above i even asked the girl 'when will the money be put back into my account'. The lady i spoke to today said that they do both but the girl must've messed up and instead of putting it down as cash back return she did store credit and must've not even realized. So i told her that sorry but i dont want store credit, i want the cash. First she tells me 'well you would have this store credit for a long time and can use it whenever so its not bad' i said NO its not what i want and not what i need at the moment and its not my mistake. She said once its put as store credit in the computer they cant reverse it. She said however, they can have the accountant who goes there once a week to try and fix it, she took down my info and said she'll have the accountant call me on monday when she is in.
Ok i am really annoyed, i dont know what is going on that i keep dealing with idiots. I even sit and think 'did i do anything wrong, did i not make myself clear' but NO that is not the case, when i mess up i say it, i messed up yesterday when purchasing from paper presentation and i took it as money lost bc it was my mistake.
But here is my question. Is it really true that they cant reverse it? I really don't see what the big deal is, they see it was a return, i dont want the store credit and its not my fault that one of their employees did that without even knowing herself since right after she did the return she told me that the money should be back into my account right away. Do i really have to wait for the accountant to do something? and will she be able to? What can i do or ask? This is BS that i have to deal with it bc of their mistake. Its not ALOT of money but its still $160 that is mine and gone for no reason

They cannot reverse it. However, you can call your bank and tell them what happened. On your behalf, your bank will contest the transaction of store credit and get your money back into the bank. Sometimes a bank will even front the amount of the descrepancy within a few business days. Not all banks have this policy.
I say call your bank and let them take care of it.
good luck!!
Yes...I work for a bank...you can def get this taken care of hassle free! Dont call them anymore!
The bank will prob need you to fax or email copies of receipts, etc.

I did not get to read all the responses but I would put a dispute in with your CC company.
I had a situation where I was charged twice for something at a restuarant and tried to get it refunded directly thru the company and it just wasnt working out. So I disputed it with the CC company and they took care of it. Took several days but it was worry free for me!
it was a debit card, would it still work? i called my bank today too before i called swarovski to ask about the transaction and they said to call the store and ask but if i can dispute it then i'll do that
Yes you can still dispute it. I had fradulent activity on my debit card and got it disputed. Good news is....they should be able to put the money right back into your account while they do the research. You are going to have to give a VERY detailed explanation tho and they will send you some forms via mail that you will need to sign (usually). Dont mention anything about the store credit....just say you were supposed to get a refund and you still havent gotten it and you have talked to x, y, and z and still nothing.
ALSO I would still write a letter or several letters of complaints to the headquarters when this is all said and done. Tell them they need to compensate you for all your hassles! I have done this before and gotten a lot of freebees!
One question though....was the product amount $160? Like how much was originally charged on your account?
yeah i should complain about the store because this is the 3rd time i call and the other 2x i wanted to bang my head because the people i spoke i dont think knew anything at all, one girl was telling me 'OH i have it on hold your item, you called to order' W** are you talking about lol. I actually had to sit there and tell the girl what to do. Dont know if this counts but after she took my debit card and did the return, she wrote down the information in a book, my name, the date, the amount and everything. I had to tell the girl the second time i called that my info would be in a book i guess they use for returns and she didnt even know about it
well it was a gift so dont want to say but close haha

Re: anybody who works in retail, i have a question
this may sound stupid but it may work... why dont you go and 'buy' something with the store credit and then ask for a return in cash (or to a CC) after doing the buying transaction

when you buy something with a store credit it is identified on the receipt and you will get another store credit if you return that item.

Re: anybody who works in retail, i have a question
i just called back and im on the phone now on hold after quickly explaining to someone else the situation. I just told her that on top of doing a return and taking my debit card again she wrote the information into a book and i asked if the book is used to write in info for store credit or returns and they told me its for returns only not store credit. So hopefully this should solve something and although they said it was the girls mistake who rang me up, the fact that in the computer it says store credit but in their returns book is my info to credit me money back. Lets see while i still wait lol

Do you bank somewhere small or big?
All banks take disputes. You were promised something and didnt get it!
Also what amount was originally charged to your card? $160 or more?

Don't go through the bank. Go back to the store and have them reverse it. A smart manager will be able to do what I said before.

well the manager got on the phone and said she just needs to ask the accountant how to do it. She said there is a way to reverse it but she needs instructions from the accountant lol. She also said the girl who rang me up it was only her 3rd day so thats why she probably got confused. Ok as the manager i would think you would know how to reverse it but ok guess i have to wait until the accountant can tell her how to

ok wow i just posted what the manager JUST told me and i dont see my post
but she said yeah theres a way to reverse it just that she needs for the accountant to help her and tell her exactly how to do it. I would think that as a manager you can do it on your own and not have an accountant tell you how but ok. She also told me that the girl who rang me up, it was her 3rd day so probably got confused

It's there! lol
They are able to reverse it. I mean she can just do a purchase with your credit then return it on your card. It is that easy. There are ways around it. They just need to use their brains! Was this the store in Roosevelt Field?

Re: anybody who works in retail, i have a question
As a DM of a clothing company myself, this SHOULD be fixed.
All register systems are different so there is a chance that they can not fix it in the store.
I would wait to talk to the accountant that comes in on Monday. If for some reason that person says that they can not do anything to fix this then ask for the DM's (District Manager) name and phone number. This was the cashiers mistake and needs to be rectified. If the DM does not fix it then ask to speak to the RM (Regional Manager).
If you need anymore help FM me. I deal with this stuff all the time.

How does one go about lining up anyone of intelligence? lol
When money is tight, you want to get it back as quickly as possible. I would go to a different location entirely.
Preferably a larger store that moves a lot of merch.
Any other store wont know the entire situation and will have to call the other store to find out....and then it will get very confusing the NYC store wont want to give you the credit because then it comes out of their daily sales for the day, etc, etc. Could get sticky. Worth a try but I wouldnt want to run all over the place!
OR maybe tell your store to call another store and figure out how to do it. I would call the 1-800 #, there is no reason you have to keep waiting for this money! Or like I said open a dispute and you will not have to do any of the calling any more!
PS - used to work for commerce. They definitely have a dispute dept for debit cards.

If you already spoke to the manager then I would wait and see what the accountant can do for you- honestly I think it can be reversed but not 100% sure if it can- you might be stuck with the store credit

Re: anybody who works in retail, i have a question
Before you call the corp.office you should go back to the store and speak to the store manager, explain what the issue is because if anyone can fix this is the store manager. If talking to the store manager is a dead end then go to the next step. Usually you get a better result in person than over the phone because most of these workers are lazy and will pretend their too busy to fix the issue. I had this problem once with Target after several phone conversation I had to go in the store and the store manager pull up the return information and review and fix my problem in about 15 minutes. Give IT A TRY! let me know the out come.
