I'm not. I'm afraid of adding more expenses to our already over budget wedding lol. Since most of my family lives out of town (lol for my JERSEY relatives NYC seems like another world!), and my parents live out of the country AND since we have such a SMALL group of REALLY close friends we didnt plan on doing one. but now i kinda want to lol maybe a small cookout at FH's Parent's house in the summer time?

that sounds like a great idea, we had a small party with just our close families, about 45 people, it was so nice and easy to plan and everyone go to chat and get to know eachother. It was so nice. I think a summertime cookout would be perfect -- GO FOR IT

We are not having a super-fancy engagement party -- just a gathering at FH's parents, because they have a good backyard and can tent it easily. We would invite a lot of people, but just have basic food (like bagels and sandwiches) and some cake, so it wouldn't be expensive. We are also having the party months after getting engaged, because we wanted to do it in the summer!

We were not going to plan one ourselvs. However, a small group of friends on FH's side planned a small eparty dinner for us with about 15-20 then we had another small eparty dinner last wknd and both were great.

we are not having one. i think it's a lot. our friends had a dinner for us, other than that we are putting the money elsewhere.

We're not going crazy on an engagement party because we would rather put that money into a vendor but we were thinking about having an outing or BBQ at a park over the summer with family & friends

I really want one, but my parents are already giving all they can for the wedding, so I don't want to ask more of them. FH's parents...don't even get me started o them lol...and we don't really have the money right now to have one. Plus I keep hearing it's not 'wedding etiquette' to throw yourselves one.
So no e-party for me

I am having a small party in a private room at a restaurant . Nothing big just a small celebration with the bridal party and family.

i'm not having one because we couldn't afford it. my mother was willing to host it but did say that she'd have to deduct however much it cost from the amount that she's contributing for the wedding. we're grateful for her wedding contribution, and without it, i don't think we could have this wedding. so we decided against the e-party. now i really want one but it's one of those things i'm doing without....

Im getting married this November... We got engaged in December of 2005... Never had an engagement party... I dont see the need for us to have one now.. And didnt feel the need to have one then.... Not something Im into.... Especially since we waited 3 years to get married anyways....
But a cookout, I think, is the best way to go.... Alot cheaper and most of the time alot more fun!

We're also having a BBQ at my parents place (because they have a pool). No need to do anything crazy (or spend more money), but we wanted to do something so this works out.

We're not having a big formal engagement party, but my sister has a big house with a gorgeous backyard and pool, so we're going to have a really informal BBQ/pool party for our families to celebrate the engagement.
There's been a lot of illness and death in both of our families over the past two years, so we're looking forward to celebrating his sister's first baby and our upcoming wedding.

i didnt have one, FH and I had no $ to throw one, and everyone considered us engaged already without the ring, since we had a kid and lived together already...
i think the cookout is a good idea to keep costs down
