Re: Are you taking FH's last name?
I feel like it would be such a hassle to change all my legal documents - SS#, work documents, driver's license, passport, credit cards, the list goes on and on.
I'm thinking of keeping my name legally and professionally.
At the appropriate times, I'll just be referred to as Mrs. X. like if I am meeting my future child's kindergarten teacher and our child has his last name.

I wanted to keep my maiden name, but he wasn't having it. So to keep peace, I changed it.

I'm definitely taking his last name. For me it's one of the more exciting parts of getting married.

Re: Are you taking FH's last name?
I don't really want to, but I think FH will be disappointed if I don't. It's who I am and have been for 32 years. It just seems silly to me to change it.
I went to an interfaith pre cana a couple of weekends ago and there was a married couple there to talk to us about interfaith marriages. The Catholic Italian wife said that taking the Jewish husband's last name was very difficult for her, because she felt like she was losing her identity as an Italian and a Catholic. She ended up doing it because her husband said if she didn't, he wouldn't marry her. I think that's awful. If you really love someone, how can you force them to do something that they don't want to do - especially when it's something so superficial like that.

Nope, I am keeping mine and the kids will be hyphenated. My family is giving me grief but I don't care. My name my choice.
