Biggest Misconceptions.

Biggest Misconceptions.

Prior to wedding planning...what was the biggest misconception you had? In terms of planning, budgeting, timeline, BP, anything?

My biggest misconception: bugeting $500 for the florist in our original budget.

Mine was that making a guest list would be easy.... FH is so hell bent on everything being 'even' that I'm leaving people I am close with out so he can invite people he barely ever speaks to ... It's not my fault I have a giant family!!!!! (Sorry for the mini vent!!!)

i never expected to pay as much for an RH as we are doing, so that kinda just messed up my budget right there :-/

I thought my sisters (my MOH's) would be a lot mroe interested in helping me, since they've both gone through this. Even interested in general, like offering opinions.

Good question...I've had a couple:
One being that I had PLENTY of time to do everything, not realizing the time would be FLYING by...
The 2nd is that people would've been waaaaaaay more excited for us than they really are...
Oh and one more- I never really realized how much went into planning a wedding-somehow I thought it would be easier, but it's still so much fun!!!

Don't get me wrong- I LOVE wedding planning- but I didn't realize how many details went into it!

I thought my family (mother father sisters) would be more helpful and want to help out with planning and or other wedding details---> Big Misconception

I thought my mom would be more into it. Also my guest list which was originally 60 people is now up to 100

Same here!
Also at first I was very particular about colors, types of flowers, etc...
Now if I see something I like, I get it (like my centerpieces, they were inexpensive) I can't be too anal ,otherwise I will drive myself CRAZY!!!!!

i thought more people and family would want to help and be involved but no1 gives a hoot. maybe when it gets closer. it was interesting because we really saw who our true friends were in the planning process. certain people really shined through and have been so helpful. i would have waited to pick my bridesmaids and i would have picked different people.

My biggest misconception was that I was just going to try to save $$$ and I wasn't going to care about small details like menus and table #s

i failed to factor in all the little things that i did not consider important but add up after a while!

I had NO IDEA that the reception hall price doesn't include tax and gratuity . . . When we picked our place I was like ahh yea we can afford that . . . and then i found out it was like a billion $ more than I expected . . . but FH was still okay with it!!

I thought FMIL would actually care that we are getting married. I mean...I knew that she probably wouldn't be over the moon, but I thought she would at least be happy for her son and maybe feign enthusiasm for us.

1. You know the monogrammed menus, and the monogrammed cocktail napkins and stuff? I thought that was included in the RH price.

2. I never realized there were so many choices-within-choices that would drive me insane! DJ vs. Band. DJ? OK, do you want zap shots? a live singer? a percussionist? Photographer? Traditional or Journalistic? Magazine style or leatherbound album? metallic pages or matte finish? etc, etc.... AHHHHH!

3. I thought I could do the whole think for 15k EASY.... Haha!

I guesss i would have to say dealing with my mom.....my sis had a destination wedding and my mom was not allowed to be involved at all. I have tried to involve her because she wants to be involved but she responds negatively to all my plans or ideas!
