I'm uncomfortable in pants. Especially when dancing. I think I will change to shorts mid-reception.
Apples and oranges BTG, apples and oranges.
Yup. How about this, BTG: if you were hot from dancing, would you consider taking off your jacket mid-reception?

going against the norm is one thing..if u dont want a flip flop basket..fine by me
and you didnt say anything specific..but the reason us flip floppers came to he defense is when someone says it makles a wedding unclkassy what do u expect us to do?
the exacct thread your referring to is someone saying
'no removing or changing of shoes i agree! this is a wedding people! its supposed 2 be classy and elegant '
from which someone else jumped to the conclusion that wearing flip flops is classless....someone who WORE flip flops, obviously, so they put words into this persons mouth and now everyone mad about it...no one thinks wearing flip flops is classless, don't get your panties in a bunch! read through the thread anyone who said something nasty was being defensive nd jumping to conslusions
fist of..im not wearing panties..jut flip flops and nothing else.
second what conclusion did i jump to?i quoted something and responded...i thought that was not cool to say..
Gina, you're a stud.
Honestly, there are better things in life to worry about than footwear. I know it's hard to imagine now, but it's true. One day you'll wonder why you were so impassioned over what you wore under a dress that no one could even see your feet.

ok....i didn't mean to offend anyone about being classy or elegant at all! i'm sorry if i did and i'm shocked. i guess i need to choose my words more carefully...i think i meant and should have written...weddings are formal instead of classy and elegant. that's what i meant...its a formal affair that's all and it's just my opinion. and i feel that way b/c i won't change shoes b/c i will most likely be wearing flats under my dress b/c my fiance and i are the same height!

Re: blah
my shoes were so damn uncomfortable, that although i broke them in for 2 weeks prior, i took them off immediately upon finishing our first dance. i wore flip flops...
my older sister was 5 months preg and she wore these grimy white old navy flip flops (the $2.50 kind) and in no way did they 'ruin' my pics.
it may seem like an issue now (as well as many other things) bc i understand everyone wants a perfect wedding, but alllll these little things won't even be remembered when looking back on your special day (which isn't about shoes, heels or flip flops, but about the love you share with your FH)

See, I think this is where a lot of people will differ with you. There is no set definition for what a wedding has to be. I wouldn't have labeled my wedding as classy, elegant, or formal. It was in a nice RH, people dressed up and looked great but the feel I was going for was much more 'fun' than 'formal' - we can't assume everyone is shooting for formality.

Re: blah
I'm getting married at a farm and will be feeding animals out of my hands. Some people get married at the Four Seasons and insist on white glove service. I'm sure my wedding will be just as beautiful, wonderful, joyous and full of love as the one at the Four Seasons and vice versa. There are obviously all different levels of formality and opinions on what a wedding should be according to people's personalities, budgets and taste.
Can we just all agree that people have different preferences and this 6 page long thread was a huge miscommunication? I keep going to unsubscribe from it but it's like a car accident!

Re: blah
Dont worry about whats on your feet- no one sees your shoes anyway under your dress! I changed into slippers right after my first dance. And all my guests LOVED the flip flop basket and were raving about it!

I changed into ballet flats and i regret it because i didn't like the way they look in my pro pics.. even though i asked and was told- dont worry ur feet wont show..lol
Also- i danced barefoot- yup i did.. someone spilled something while i was dancing and i didn't want to bust my butt so i took my shoes off until they cleaned it.. pics of that too....

I guess i just have a more laid back opinion on my foot wear... i dont know anyone that takes that so seriously. If my feet hurt from my shoes im changing them...
if im in the bridal party that means they are my friends and are more than likely wearing flip flops themselves... every bridal party ive been in the bride has purchased flip flops for the bridal party to change into...
ETA: also, changing into flip flops and changing into a tshirt are really very different
Oh I hear you. And I think we are kind of on the same page. If the bride is telling you it's ok, then go for it.
But if your hosts are trying to have a more formal affair, you need to follow their lead and either keep your shoes on or wear a flat or smaller heel that still looks dressy.
I agree with everything you've said black tie guy, hence the point I was trying to make, incase people were wondering, since I did start this thread

To be honest, it depends on (a) what I am wearing and (b) the level of formality of the reception.
But that's what I've been saying all along. For a reception where the hosts are clearly looking for something more informal, or fun, and where it's obvious that wearing flip flops or going barefoot is acceptable, then by all means, go ahead. However, when the hosts are expecting a more formal reception, I'd follow the hosts wishes until I'm given cues (either verbal or non-verbal) that something like wearing flip flops or taking off my jacket and rolling up my sleeves is acceptable.
I don't understand the problem with that position.
