Brides with no father to give them away.

Brides with no father to give them away.

Hi,
I am having my twin brother give me away at my wedding, but my FI wants him as a groomsmen.

What does etiquette say? I realize that these days everyone does what they want, but I was just wondering how others have handled it.

My mom keeps telling me that my brother has a role (giving me away) and that he should not be a groomsmen and that my sister's FI should take his place.

I have no idea what to do. If I leave my brother as a groomsmen and add my sister's FI, the parties will be uneven. Does that matter??

Please help!

Thanks

what about having your mother give you away?

My Brother is giving me away and he is also in the bridal party. I wouldn't have it any other way. In all honesty it is your day. If it means alot to you to have him in the bridal party as well than you should. My BP is also uneven. I have more girls than guys. One guy will have two on his arm.

I thought of that too. Do your parties match???

I have 5 on each side.

my friend did that for her wedding and it was beautiful!! he gave her away, then after the ceremony he walked down the aisle with one of the bm's.

Never mind etiquette.... who do you want to give you away? And also, don't worry about uneven sides - have who you want doing what you want - it is your day!

I think it should be whomever you feel closest to

I would ignore etiquette. If you want your brother to give you away and be a part of the BP I see nothing wrong with that. I am sure that people will be understanding of your situation.

My brother gave me away. I wanted my mom but I knew she didnt really want to do it. And it was a good thing b/c she was sooooooooo nervous the day of. I also have a step-dad but I felt that the role should be handed down to my brother. He was honored and I am glad I picked him. As far as having more GM's than BM's, that is fine. Nothing says it has to be even. I had 5BM and 6 GM.

You do whatever YOU and your FI want. Have your brother walk you down the aisle and then stand in his place with the other groomsmen. It's your (you and FH) wedding - your choice.

There is no problem with your brother having two roles if you want him to.

My brother walked me down the aisle and was also a groomsman, he just stood in line once he got to the front of the church.

I have 2 brothers and I didn't want to have to choose between the 2 of them. I spoke to the both of them about this, they suggested that I ask our uncle walk me down so I'm having My uncle is walking me down. Both of them are groomsmen.

Our BP was uneven. DH has two best men and two groomsmen. I had one MOH and two BM. My older brother walked me down the aisle. DH didn't ask either of my brothers to be in the BP.

I am having both my mom and my brother walk me down the aisle, and my brother will still be in the Bridal Party. It may be a little out of the ordinary, but my fathers passing has made the three of us so incredibly close, I can't imagine choosing one over the other to walk me down the aisle. My bridal party is going to be uneven anyway - at first I was freaking out trying to do everything the 'right' way, but now I realize that the right way is whatever way I feel most comfortable.

Do what you want. It's your day! Have your brother walk ou down and then he can move to the side with the other goomsmen.

my father passed away when I was an infant, and when I was younger I had asked one of my uncles to give me away, but now I want it to be my mother because she's the one who was always there for me.

i am not sure if there is any ettiquette about it, I have heard of some girls walking with other family members or walking alone, my MOH was given away by a good friend of the family. Its whatever you feel most comfortable with

I am having my mom walk me down the isle. With that being said, my bridal parties are uneven. I have 3 girls and 5 boys. So one MOH, BM and two groomsmesn for each bridesmaid.

You can give your brother a dual role. He can escort the BM down the aisle and then go back to get you.

I've also seen uneven bridal parties where a BM walks in with two GM and vice versa - looks cute.

You only get married once, if you really want your brother to walk you down the aisle then you should. Otherwise everytime you look at your videos or your picturesand don't see him next to you, you are going to have regrets.
