Butter---Any bakers out there?

Original post by BMD'sPeanut

I loooove butter...But in an effort to be more health-conscious, I'd like to substitute it with something else in recipes. I know nothing quite takes the place of butter, but there has to be something I could use to cut out some of those bad features of butter.

Anyone?

I use Parkay Light and everyone is always raving about my baked goods.

Really? Parkay light? But is it healthful? That's the question. I'm not looking for low-cal...Looking for low-bad-stuff-that-clog-your-arteries.

how much do you bake throughout the year.

when I make the effort I want it to be good- and REAL- and I only use Butter.

it truly depends on what you are baking...some things will not accept any substitute for butter. Some recipes will call for margarine and NOT butter and some recipes call for shortening (Crisco). I don't substitute my butter.....it's the holidays, they come once a year and I don't want my recipes to taste different. Sometimes what you use will make difference in how it tastes....

I know shortening makes cookies softer instead of crunchy.

Not super healthy... One of the girls here made Chocolate muffins with pumkin. Super healthy and really yummy. I can ask her for the recipe if you want.

no. But you find it in the same section as the oil and baking stuff. I want to guess and say 'smarter bake' or 'smart bake'.

The jar is about 6' high, and you can see the brown puree.

yes! i think i can picture it now!

Are you thinking of Smart Balance? I know that's also a butter sub, but I dn't know if it's just a spread or of it can be used in baking as well....

I love I can't believe it's not butter too, Brummel & Brown is a close second! But, I'm old school with my baking and use the regular ol' artery clogging butter
