I think us girls need a thread too. Since I'm getting closer I have more and more questions about the place. I have a meeting tomorrow to make another payment and I'm trying to get questions together. Do you girls know if they will have the CH decorated? Ice sculpture or fall leaves, etc?

Re: Caltun Thread
Ooohh... our very own thread. Nifty!
Since I am over a year away, I'm not too sure of details. But when I meet with Shelia the first time, she lead me to believe that the cocktail room isn't necessarily decorated beyond the decor that's already present, and candles. We're doing a vinyard theme, so we're going to have the florist bring that into the CH as well. We're also going to put pictures of family on the mantle pieces. The great thing about the Carltun, I think, is that it is so beautiful, especially where the CH is, that it doesn't need too much done to it.
I do remember Sheila telling me to ask the florist to provide flowers to adorn the serving trays for the passed food.
We're trying to get in touch with Shelia to set up some times to go see the place ready for a wedding, before the bride arrives. Maybe she'll let us see your wedding!! Would that bother you?

We are arranding flowers, etc. for the tables and to decorate the mantle. I think the only thing they would do in there is light the fire place.
YAY-- a Carltun thread!!

Re: Caltun Thread
So I had my meeting on Friday with Liz at The Carltun. We made a payment and went over some questions I had. FYI There is no meal inbetween the salad and main course. No chocolate fountain, but you can bring one in. They supply menus on either off-white or goldish color paper. (you can bring your own too) Only has ice sculpture for certain CH stations. (We didn't choose one that had an ice sculpture) Only decorations they supply are candles in the foyer. Chair covers are between 8.50 - 11.50 (too expensive IMO)
Any questions you have, ask away.

Re: Caltun Thread
what do you mean no meal b/t salad and main? Doesn't it depend what you select off your menu, like the combo appt, etc.
Did you request an ice sculpture, or is oit just part of the food presentation? What shapes do they come in, etc?
And lastly-- what menu items did you select??

Re: Caltun Thread
Liz said if we don't pick a CH station with an ice sculpture included they don't do it. I have all my menu stuff at home, so I will FM you our choices later tonight. Liz said if we wanted to add a meal inbetween it would be $8pp. She didn't mention the salad/app. combo. I forgot about that until you mentioned it. I have to call her again with more questions. Let me know if you think of anything else I should ask.

Re: Caltun Thread
pbandtim: Not that these are pertinent to me right now as my wedding is 374 days away, but...
Did she happen to say if there were more than 2 table linen options?
Did you see the menu? Is it on a hard stock or just plain paper?
These are things I'd be happy to ask Shelia, if she'd ever call me back. Getting a little irritated by that!!! Grrrrr...

She didn't give us a linen choice. We were there Friday night and saw the room set up. Each table had nice white linen. I liked it, so didn't ask if they had another option like ivory or off white. The menu is on card stock paper, a little thicker than regular paper.

Re: Carltun Thread
We didn't have linen options either.. but the one Sheila showed us was nice.. It was like belgian lace or somethign-- slightly off white- not a deep ivory. Nothing to worry about with that.
We are not interested in ice sculptures.. was wondering if it was just part of the package..
Still not sure what you mean by meal, for an additional 8pp. Do you mean a course???

Re: Carltun Thread
To serve a meal inbetween salad and the main course was an additional $8pp. I have to check our menu options when I get home. I didn't see anywhere the option for the salad/app. combo.

Re: Carltun Thread
I'm having a pasta course in between. We worked it into our total cost pp when we booked.
ETA: I'm so happy we have a Carltun thread! I kept thinking of starting one, but for some reason never did!

Re: Carltun Thread
I was kind of wondering about this too. I've been to 2 weddings recently where there was no 'appetizer' so to speak in between the salad and main course. Usually there is either an app, or a 'palate cleanser' of some sort. I thought that was just standard. Although it didn't bother me that there wasn't any. I don't think I'll be shelling out another $8pp for it. With CH/salad/main course, I think there's plenty of food.
Just looked at the food choices Shelia gave me back in Feb, and there is a first course (ie - salad) and then the main course. Nothing in between. You can add fresh mozzerella w/ tomato and basil in between for $10 pp.

Re: Carltun Thread
I went to my friend's wedding at the Carltun last Saturday night. It was great! I loved the Sorbet Palette--mini cones of sorbet passed around by the waiters. The cones were placed in holes on what looked like an artist's palette. Very cute idea; everyone loved it. She also had a cigar & reggae party after the wedding on the patio. Tons of fun. We had a wonderful time!

Girls who have planned their menus already..
What bakery does Carltun work with for wedding cakes?

Re: Carltun Thread
When I showed Liz a pic of the cake we wanted, she called someone there to see if it was doable. I don't think they use an outside bakery.

Re: Carltun Thread
I'm looking at our menu choices now and under the first course choice there is no choice to have a meal inbetween salad and the main course. You can have an additional choice of Impoted Buffalo Mozzarella, Fresh Tomato & Basil served with Basil Oil & Balsamic Glaze for $10pp. I have to call Liz today to check on this. Would people miss the meal inbetween?

Re: Carltun Thread
We're not going to do it. I don't think the budget can handle it!!! I figure some people might notice it's missing, but I don't think anyone is going to go hungry.
