Copycat -- Updated p2

Original post by bluegreen08

Would you be annoyed if a friend who attended your wedding used your exact same bridesmaid dresses (same exact color, designer, etc) at her own wedding less than a year after yours? (and chose them after your wedding had occurred)?

She just sent me a facebook message:

'Hey love,

So... I have something kind of serious that I have to talk to you about. I was just looking at your pictures and realized that I might have ordered the exact same dresses for my girls. I think there is time to change it if you want me too... AHHH you have such good taste it is hard to follow your wedding up! Let me know what you think ...

xoxox Jess'

I really want to tell her that it DOES bother me, but I feel like it's wrong to do so since my wedding is already over. i admit i might be a little extra bitter since this couple no-gifted us.

I wouldn't let it stress you. I'd reply 'I wouldn't mind - I'm actually flattered. Do you think anyone would notice they're the same though?' That way you're leaving the decision up to her but gently reminding her they are EXACT. And she's right - she couldn't top your wedding

i would be a little annoyed, but wouldn't worry about it...just imagine how many people have used that dress!

Re: Copycat

I wouldn't be annoyed, it's not like she is copying your wedding gown. I think that would be a little different. unless you are ordering a one of a kind outfit you'll more then likely see them again.

i'd be a bit annoyed but just let it slide.. did she order it after your wedding? it could really be an honest mistake.. and some people can't picture anything in their mind so your bm's dressed probably served as a visual and she was toying with idea of blue and it just so happend it..

Nahhhh,, she is AFTER you.. you did it first,, and if anyone one makes a comment.. I would say

'oh Jenn said I have SUCH good taste she wanted to do the same thing...'

Honestly- I wouldnt bother worrying about it- I know how in love with your dresses you are--- BUT this girl just got engaged, she will probably change her mind but if she doesnt- she will look like an idiot for copying. Just not worth upsetting yourself in my opinion

Re: Copycat

I'd be annoyed if her wedding was before mine, but since it's after yours people will know she copied YOU, that is if they even notice. Unfortunately, when it comes to weddings most people remember nothing more than whether or not the food was good!

i probably would be annoyed, but wouldnt care that much since my wedding was first - but people like that annoy me

Eh, I'd let it slide.

Its annoying, but it is what it is. Your wedding was first. . .and if she LOVED your dresses that much, let her copy them. Does it really matter at the end of the day? People will know she copied them and not the other way around

Re: Copycat

nah, i wouldn't mind at all. Nobody pays THAT much attention to BM dresses anyway. It's not like the actual Wedding Gown is being copied. It happens.

I had chosen & ordered my girls' dresses a month ago, and then last week I went to a wedding where HER girls had almost he same thing. A different bottom, but it was the identical color and top. What a pain. She & I aren't even that close so it's not like we'd ever talked about it or saw pictures. But I wouldn't be mad at her and I definitely don't expect her to be mad at me.

I think it was nice of your friend to even write that message and ask you if it's okay. Don't let it bother you. You both just have the same taste in fashion, i guess!

My honest reaction is no..I think I would be flattered and glad to see them in action again

Re: Copycat

I'm assuming they'll at least be a different color than yours were? I'd let it slide since you were first. Those are a similar style to what I had too - that cut is SOO flattering on different bodies! As long as they're a diff color, I'd say let it go.

I voted no because in the long run, do bridesmaid dresses really matter??? I just don't think it's worth wasting time being annoyed about. Unless you have something custom made, there are going to be countless people using 'your' dress, and 'your' colors. It's not family, it's all different guests, and yours was first anyway. I say don't even worry about it.

And the gift thing - whatever, that's not what weddings are about anyway - I don't see how that factors in here.

ITA. your wedding was first so who cares, she's going to look silly if anyone notices.

Re: Copycat

ok - i just peaked at the BM dresses - honestly i was thinking i wouldn't be annoyed. i assumed they were probably chocolate brown (lol - mine are chocolate brown - so I'm in this boat too so no one get mad at me ) and every wedding I've gone to in the past two years has pretty much done the chocolate brown dresses. so there's bound to be dup's. so my thought was - no biggie

its a tough one - i think given your dresses and how different they are i would be flattered AND at the same time feel a little like -'wait a minute - is this going to be my wedding part deux'?

i think about this a lot - with the size of FH's family there isn't a location, DJ , FLorist, color scheme, activity or ANYTHING i can do that hasn't been done by someone else.
i think like 3 people have been married at the hall we're at 2 have used the DJ - like 5 the florist and ...about 8 the color brown.

i gave up on trying not to duplicate like a year ago. i think my invites are the only thing no one else has had the same :)

my only recommendation would be to talk to her in person either way - so nothing gets misconstrued

I wouldn't care since yours was first, but I do think its crapppy that she used the same exact color. I went to a wedding a year ago that had my bridesmaid dresses in a totally different color and didnt even realize until after I picked my dresses that her girls had the same dress. However, since my dresses are nude and chocolate brown and hers were black and eggplant, it really looks like a diff dress.

Re: Copycat

i think it depends.... like, if she was getting marred after me, but speciically told me 'hey i love your BM dresses so i'm getting them for my girls too' yeah i would too be a little annoyed

if she HONESTLY did not realize they were the same style/color, then i would still be a little annoyed, but at least she really didnt do it on purpose, ya know?

if she was getting married before me & i had picked the dresses first, yeah you better believe i would be pissed!!

Re: Copycat

wouldn't even care. duplicates are going to happen - the only way your getting a original anything is if you got it spec. designed/made. I really wouldn't care esp if it was after your date.

Re: Copycat

I know you are annoyed... take it as a compliment. I just dont get it though there;s 1000 other colors to choose from lol. The no gifted part would get me more mad lol
