Did anyone just see on the news the little girl that was....

Handcuffed? I think it happenedin Florida. She was having a tantrum so bad that all the other students had to leave the room. Then she started climbing the walls kicking and screaming and punching the teacher. She was sent to the princaples office where she continued. She climbed on a chair and then on top of a table. She was on the floor kicking. They called the police and they came and said we are going to handcuff you. And they did.

Ok Im not a mom but I don't see why this was so Horrible maybe a little extreme but it probably taught her a lesson. Her parents are going to sue (of course)

Wheres Deb was this in the armpit?

Jes it was just on the news.

Christina It probably taught the kid a lesson. I don't know if my kid was hitting a teacher Id be like ok she deserved it. Yes I got your FM ill reply.

Well they might have done that so she couldn't hurt herself or others...

you have to handle kids much more sensitively
maybe this was MORE than a tantrum...There could possibly be psychiatric issues goign on here!

I think it was a correct move!

I hate to say it but there are times when using a form of restraint is necessary in order to secure the safety of the child as well as those around that child. In order for it to be done legally, it would have to be done by a police officer or someone trained in that area. For someone to use handcuffs, it would have to be very severe. I have never seen handcuffs being used but think about this, if you had a child in that girl's class, and that kid hit your kid causing some type of damage, you'd be damn mad. As a teacher of emotionally disturbed kids, I have been on the receiving end of aggressive behaviors by kids. I see it everyday. I have emptied my classroom while the 'acting out' child is inside. I have to ensure the safety of my classroom staff and the rest of the kids. At this time, I would call a person who is trained in crisis intervention. They determine if other interventions (police, EMTs) are necessary.

It's so typical how the parents are so quick to sue but clearly were not on top of disciplining this child.

did you hear how the mother couldn't come pick up her own child!!!

Sounds like there are MORE issues going on here than having the girl handcuffed!

They had it on Video Tape (for some reason) They showed the girl was going nuts Punching the teacher in the stomach. Everytime the teacher said 'no' 'stop that' the girl got worse.

i think it was the right move, given the circumstances. like goldi said, if I had a child in that class that could have been harmed by this outburst, then I'd be damn mad too!!
and honestly, if the police were called and they felt they had to use handcuffs, then there must be some serious underlying mental, and obviously behavioral issues there!!

i just watched that segment just now too...on channel 4
at the end that is what they said...mother was unable to pick up the child

Of course they already have a lawyer. I was always so scared to do anything in school cause man when I got home it might not have been good! My parents never once hit me but I was afraid. And man If I got handcuffed at school Id be in even more trouble. My mother would be like what the H*ll did you do to get handcuffed?
