I was talking to some newlywed couples that I met at the resort where we were on our HM and we were exchanging 'war stories' especially the cost of things so this couple from Seatle and Wisconsin mentioned how much they paid at their RH's pp, mine and DH's mouth just dropped one couple paid at a very lavish golf country club 30 pp and the other at some country club 35 pp they described their wedding and they were just a bit less elaborate than all of ours over here (less food)
for a few mins me and DH literally couldnt speak! we were shocked!
then we mentioned how much we paid to them and they were floored, they couldnt understand how anyone can afford to get married living in NY and how happy they are to live where they do.
btw, we compared professions and a ball park of what each makes, and its the same (one girl was an accountant so for me that was a good comparison as I am myself on the accounting side)
needless to say me and DH got drunk after that cause we were so depressed......

not to be rudeeeee but.. you alll couldve had a wedding at Leonards. i was quoted 60$ pp and the guy was throwing soo much stuff in
so complain alllllllllllllll u want about costs of weddings... we CHOSE to spend what we did. lolll
and dont forget the 10k wedding packages
I wasn't complaining, Barb. I actually thought we were getting an awesome deal at our RH and for me the prices were completely normal - exaxctly what I expected to get quoted at each of the places we visited. I was just unaware of how it is elsewhere and that what made me so shocked

Seriously don't even tell me this lol. I could literally KILL FH My parents were married at Leonards back in 82' and growing up I used to always look at there wedding album and video and say how much I wanted to get married there, I just think it's so beautiful. When FH and I were looking for halls he made me cancel my appointment with them because he said it would be too far for people to drive as most our family/friends live out in eastern suffolk.....now hearing this I want to murder him!

I HATE THAT ITS SO EXPENSIVE HERE BUT I COULDNT SEE MYSELF LIVING ANYWHERE ELSE
We pay a high price for living in the greatest city in the world...but...WE LIVE IN THE GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD!
ITA..When I hear how cheap things are in other parts of the US, I feel jealous for a tiny bit and then I remember that there is no way I would move out of NY no matter how badly I am getting ripped off!

yeah, all of our friends were SHOCKED when they heard how much we were paying (we live in Ohio). We got some really small $$ gifts...the average (for a COUPLE was like $40). You could def. tell who was from Long Island by the amount they gave.
ETA: We paid app $50 pp (it might have been $55, I can't remember) at the Riviera, so it wasn't too terrible.

Re: did u guys know?????
I could have gotten married in CT since that's where FH family is but there is no other place to have a wedding then in NY. I've been to 2 out of state weddings CT and NH and both had to pay extra for open bar and not as much food. So I won't be complaing about the price here that's for sure.

Re: did u guys know?????
yes, NY is extremely expensive. My best friend got married last year and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. She and her husband pay around $2K for a house that is the size of a McMansion in Syosset (3 bedrooms, pool, 2 car garage). Her property taxes are half of what she was paying when she lived in Seaford.
Seriously, Long Island is experiencing a mass exodus because the cost of living here is outrageous for what you get. Housing prices are not in line w/ salary either,
If you are bored, this board has some interesting messages about how a 32 year old single guy making 45K can't even afford to buy a starter home in Nassau or Suffolk:

Re: did u guys know?????
My friend who lives in Virgina asked her friends how much they would give as a wedding gift and they said, on average, $30. I would DIE if someone gave us $30. It doesn't even cover half of the plate! We went to a wedding in Maryland and I can say that it was nothing, absolutely nothing compared to a NY wedding. I know the prices ****, but I couldn't imagine living anywhere else either.

I see your point and you're right. The GreenTree in New Rochelle was giving me the place for free practically but the quality, food and service is nothing like what we got at my venue. They were going to throw in everything!!!! Your quote is still double what Regy heard for a NY wedding.
We just all got style and good taste. Cost of living is much higher here.
