DIY Donation Cards w/PICS! - Also need help from the Spanish speaking ladies please!!! UPDATED on pg 2 with new wording

Original post by MrsQ-in2007

I figured since I did get the DIY shield for this week, I might as well get more DIY projects done

Here's my rough draft of my Donation Cards (we're giving a donation instead of favors, but we'll also have 2x2x2 favor boxes filled with Hershey's as an extra little something).

More than 1/2 of our guests are our spanish-speaking hispanic family members, so we're doing as much as we can in both languages.

For my lovely latin ladies (and other fluent spanish speakers), can you help me with the translation into Spanish??? It's not too bad right now, but I know it can be better.

THANK YOU!!! And please let me know what you think or if you recommend any changes.

ETA: I am considering printing one per guest and having them placed on top of the menu cards at each place setting.

UPDATED SPANISH WORDING:

Con mucho pensamiento y consideración, hemos escogido una manera especial (ANOTHER WORD HERE???) para decirles gracias por ser parte de nuestra boda.

Hemos hecho una donación especial al American Cancer Society
en honor de nuestros seres queridos quienes han sido afectado por el cancer.

Nosotros sentimos que el mayor regalo es uno que ayuda a los demás
a vivir de buena salud. Les agradecemos su participación en este día tan especial.

Con todo nuestro amor, Los nuevos Sr. y Sra. Q_______

NOTE: In the last paragraph, doesn't it sound better to leave the 'a' out before 'vivir' so that it just reads:
... que ayuda a los demás vivir de buena salud.
?

Here are a few suggestions for the Spanish translation:

Hemos hecho una donación al American Cancer Society ( I don't think you need the word especial, it sounds too wordy)
en honor de nuestros queridos que han sido afectado por el cancer.

Sentimos (You don't need Nosotros, because it is understood using that verb tense) que el mejor (not mayor) regalo es uno que ayuda a los demás vivir una vida saludable. Les agradecemos su participación en este día tan especial

HTH!!

these came out GREAT!!!

Do you realize we have the SAME EXACT favors! hershey kisses and all! lol Except I made the mistake of making scrolls and now I'm dreading having to somehow get them to properly/nicely stay on top of the boxes in the ribbon

Oooh really???? No, I totally didn't realize! How cool is that?

okay okay as promised here is my *keyword* suggestion

nuestro deseo mas sincero es de agradecer a cada uno de ustedes por compartir en nuestra boda.

hemos hecho una donacion especial a la Sociedad Americana del Cancer para honrar a nuestros seres queridos quienes han sido afectados por el cancer.

Sentimos que el mejor regalo es el que ayuda a otros vivir vidas largas y saludables.

estamos muy agradecidos que ustedes formen parte de este dia tan especial.

Con todo nuestro amor, los novios

Lupita, gracias por las sugeriencias!!! I'm going to use part of yours with the last suggestion!

This DEFINITELY helps!!! Thank you. You ladies are all the best!!! I'm going to use part of this with part of Lupita's suggestions. I will work on it later or tomorrow and repost the final wording for you ladies to see (and possibly fix again )

Thanks again EVERYONE!

why dont you put the donation card in the box of edible favor

thats what im doing...

let me see if i can find an ex.

eta

here you go
although its not a donation, you get the idea

Jess, I really liked this when I saw it and considered it... BUT, I really need/want to do it bilingual and my favor boxes are only 2x2x2, so I think it would be too small to write it all out (even if I do one language on each side). Thanks for the suggestion though! I was considering it before.

U really are DIY queen. Can't help with the spanish but can ask my mom if u like. Also I wanted to tell you another bride on here made one of her inserts in spanish for her spanish guests. Just an idea.

E, I was THINKING of doing that, but dang it, it's hard to translate all that I mean, in the proper way. I have the invite, directions, reception card, and RSVP.

I started working on it like a month ago and thought I was going crazy so I figured I'd send them all out in English... maybe I'll rethink that

OK, so here's the newly updated Donation Cards with the updated Spanish wording. MANY thanks to Bonitachyc and FullersBride for the much needed help with the translation. I used both suggestions and a bit of my own.

PLEASE let me know if there's till something that needs fixing in this almost-final rough draft. THANK YOU!

Ok, I'm not sure if this is a cultrual difference in grammer or not, I speak Spanish from Spain and I know that Latin America has a slightly different dialect but for this sentence :

seres queridos que (not quienes) han sido (quienes is not a verb tense we would use) I guess if it sounds right to you use it, but to me it sounds wrong and should be que.

And up top in the sentence:
por compartir (you need to add:en) el dia de nuestra boda.

THANK YOU! I know there are difference in our Spanish... it's funny because 'que' sounds incorrect to me, but maybe that's what it should be???

For the compartir, do you *have* to add 'en'? I thought it was like saying 'for sharing our day' ... if I add the 'en', that makes it 'for sharing in our day'... so wouldn't either be correct? Or am I just off?

ETA: sorry for all the questions!! I just don't want anyone in our families to wonder why the grammar is wrong, lol... Does the last line sound right? Con todo nuestro amor... etc?

THANKS ladies!!!

Posted by MrsDaniRella

oooh they look great-- sorry, i can't help with the spanish either but if melissa does not see this post then FM her the link-- she speaks Spanish very well and reads/writes with it too for her job (MJDoc12).

Can you believe I'm a FLUENT spanish speaker? In fact, I didn't learn English until I started school (yes, I was BORN in NYC!! lol)... but when it comes to translations, sometimes I just blank!

I hope Melissa sees it, if not I'll take your suggestion and FM her. THANKS!

Hey me too. My parents spoke only Spanish when I was younger and I didn't start learning English until I went to elementary school. Now the whole family speaks Spanglish at home.

HEHEHEH

I know this is sooooo frustrating.

I think the problem is that you are trying to translate it word for word and you can't always do that because it will sound funny in one of the versions.

I'm not sure what to so about que, to me it sounds correct. Maybe Lupita will get her a** on here and help

You defenitely need to put in en, the sentence is not complete without it, again going back to the literal translation problem.

Con todo nuestro amor sounds great!!!

Great, thank you! I know caribbean hispanics have our own little version of Spanish anyway, lol, but my FH's family is Colombian and they speak a more formal spanish than my family does - I just want it to sound correct.

And yeah, where the heck is Lupita????

Ok, so I'll definitely add the 'en' after compartir.

So that last line is ok with the 'Los Novios, Yesenia y Luis Q____'? I thought it maybe looked funny but that's the best way I could phrase it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
