do u think this is out of line...

Original post by shoegal68

me & FH had a big fight last night. we ironed it out but i still need to vent. I am close to my FMIL & in the past has given me great advice about how to handle him. Do you think its out of line to seek her advice or vent. It is her son & feel bad complaining to her about him. But she does know him better than anybody.

Even though its ironed out, i really don't think its the last time its going to happen. In a nut shell his priorities are screwed up with regards to his friends. His mom knows the situation very well. One of his friends is a big 'user' & constantly takes advantage of people including my FH..

Should i seek my FMIL advice???

I think you should. FMIL and I have an incredible relationship and talk about anything and everything. I would never think twice about going to her for help. I think this type of relationship is important to have. FMIL and I talk about things that FH doesn't need to be involved in...you know, like girly stuff that he wouldn't care about anyway. I think FMIL will help you out....keep evertyhing as positive as possible. Good luck.

My mom is pretty close with my 2 sister in laws.. but she hates when they call and complain about my brothers.. or ask her to get in the middle.. bottom line he is her son.. and no one wants to hear anyone criticize their child..

I don't know your relationship.. but in my opinion I wouldn't

I think you should approach it with her just as you approached it on here just start by saying 'I'm seeking your advice because I know that you know your son better than anybody'...and lead in to whatever you have to say

i think this is something that is definitely based on an individual basis...each FMIL is different and handles things differently, every relationship we have with our FMIL's is different, plus just the whole situation and things we discuss with them.

You know whats right with you and what you're both comfortable talking about. I mean i even talk about alot of things with FMIL in front of FH. But he also has a relationship with her where he talks to her about things and tells her things that are going on so she knows alot of it. I also know the type of person she is and that it can be discussed with her. She appreciates that i talk to her about these things, and everything i talk to her about is to help her son and she even thanks me all the time for being patient with him and really taking care of him and understanding and she never thought he'd have someone who would care for him and look out for his best interests as i have. I also deal with a unique situation that it really helps to learn new things about it, i do my own research but still.

I understand also when girls say they wouldn't do it...i look at my past relationship and there was no way i could talk to his mom about anything at all...she was the type that its her babies and no matter what they do you better not say anything about them...She even told him once that he needs to put me in my place and never allow a woman to talk to him like that although he was the one being an A** but it didnt matter lol.

Agreed each situation is unique. Some ladies may not talk to MIL about problems/concerns, arguements etc. because they don't have close relationships with them or because they don't want to offend MIL, or because they feel as though they don't want to include a 3rd party OR because they don't want to air out their dirty laundry

So going back to the original question to this post, which is whether this is out of line, I think if you've developed an open communication with MIL when it comes to yours and FH problems, etc. then def. talk to her. As long as Fh doesn't get upset over it if he finds out.

that is exactly how i want to start the conversation.

actually she is having the same problem with my FH.. In a nutshell, he puts his so called 'friend' before anybody. His parents are divorced & my FMIL has really nobody to help her out with the house. He does help but its like pulling teeth. In defense of my FH he does have a crazy schedule with working nights...but with this one particular friend he AND everybody else will drop everything to help him.. he had to be reminded this weekend that family comes first
