Do you take any pills for your IBS?
Did you go to a gastroentrologist to be diagnosed?

Did you change your diet?

Re: Does anyone have any stomach problems?

I don't take pills and I did go to a gatroenterologist to be diagnosed. My doctor wanted me to make dietary changes before I started to rely on medication for my problems.

I have drastically changed my diet. I cannot consume anything high fat/fried (including red meat) or ANY dairy (dairy was a big trigger) or coffee. I cannot eat most desserts, pre-packaged cereals or snacks. So my diet is high in fruits/veggies/complex carbs/chicken/fish/soy products. It's made a BIG difference for me.

I hope that my rambling is helping you!

Ive recently started using ZELNORM again (i wa s on it a few yrs ago but the FDA has since ok-ed it as long term use). I want to kiss my dr for putting me on it. My life has changed.

Yes, I am definitely going to go see my doctor.

I have always had stomach problems. Sometimes I'm fine then I get bouts of IBS.

I definitely think I need to change my diet.

What do you eat for a snack?

Can you give me some diet tips, please?

Click on this: help for ibs . This has helped me a lot, especially in knowing what my trigger foods can be. I learned about it from LIW; there are a lot of threads about stomach issues!

I snack mostly on fruit or snacks/cereal that are low in fat and dairy free. I drink a lot of decaf tea (sometimes I treat myself to coffee or my former favorite snacks when my stomach has been 'good').

I too have IBS and lactose intolerance. Nothing has helped me. This has been on-going for awhile now. I've tried at least 10 doctors. The only thing that has helped me, I know this is gross, but I did a colon cleansing natural program. IT REALLY WORKED. I've been on it for a week now and knock on wood, I haven't had a stomach ache since. It was not cheap, but it is so worth it. The old ladies that work at CVS knew me, b/c I was there everyday buying all the stomach meds I could find. That is how bad it got.

Yes. Unfortunately, I have been diagnosed with IBS. This, after having a colonoscopy in order to rule out other conditions. But it can get a lot better if you learn how to best manage it. I could give you diet tips but I only know what works for me and it could be totally different for you. I would suggest that you experiment to see which foods set you off and which are ok for you. Feel free to FM me anytime if you want to talk. Hope you feel better

I have a related, gross, question - does having lots of gas, but no other issues, mean that I might have IBS? I seem to get it no matter what I eat, and I feel bloated all the time.

Here is the medical criteria for diagnosing IBS:
ROME II SYMPTOM CRITERIA FOR IBS
At least 12 weeks or more, which need not be consecutive, in the preceding 12 months of abdominal discomfort or pain that has two out of three features:
1) Relieved with defecation; and/or
2) Onset associated with a change in frequency of stool; and/or
3) Onset associated with a change in form (appearance) of stool.

Other symptoms that are not essential but support the diagnosis of IBS:

Abnormal stool frequency (greater than 3 bowel movements/day or less than 3 bowel movements/week);
Abnormal stool form (lumpy/hard or loose/watery stool);
Abnormal stool passage (straining, urgency, or feeling of incomplete evacuation);
Passage of mucus;
Bloating or feeling of abdominal distension.

That's how mine started. Feel better. I would def. consider seeing a gastroent. and maybe they can start you on some meds to relieve some of that. I know how annoying and how horrible that feels. Ugh...

I am the queen of stomach issues. Have IBD or Crohns. Showed up on a cat scan and I've had it for over 20 years.

In remission now, but I get my bouts..really sux.

I was getting really bad gas- and I figured it it was from fake sugar- the day I stopped drinking crsytal lite it stopped completely

Beth's right - sorbitol (a sugar alcohol) and artifcial sweetners can cause bloating.

Can't use any artifical sweetener. Horrible consequences.

Re: Does anyone have any stomach problems?

I have IBS...have had it for almost 10 years now, and have it pretty much under control through diet! I can't eat any red meat whatsoever, and do have 2 medications . One is supposed to be taken every day , and one I put under my tongue if I have an attack. This way I don't have to go to the ER and wait a billion hours for a shot.
FM me if you have any questions!!

Whoa - can you tell me about this pill that dissolves under your tongue? What's it called??? I've been hospitalized twice over the last couple of years (and waited for the shot) and I experience intense pain 2/3 times a year.
