Engagement party?
Are you doing a big engagement party with all friends and family? Or are you doing a simple engagement dinner party with just the families and the bridal party?FH and I just want to do a dinner so his parents can meet my (4) parents and to formally ask the bridal party to take part in our wedding.
All too often I've seen engagement parties that are like mini-weddings, so I was wondering what everyone's opinion was on them.
Also... how soon after the engagement are you doing it? We're going to be doing it about 3-4 months post engagement (late march/early april... after we have our venue booked)

Engagement party?
We had an engagement brunch with about 75 people. It was definitely cheaper than a night time party. We kept it really simple and it definitely gave us a nice chunk of change for the wedding. We had about 20 people back at our place afterwards for some good old day drinking too lol.We got engaged on 2/14 and had our engagement party on 4/20, so a little over 2 months later.

Engagement party?
We had an engagement party with 50 people as a backyward BBQ and we had a great time. Believeit or not but keeping it that small was pretty challenging, if we had invited who we really wanted it definitely would have been like a mini wedding and that wasn't what we wanted. We got engaged 5/18 and had our party 8/4. I didn't necessarily want a party but compromised with FI who wanted one and party of my compromise was that the party had to be within 3 months of the actual proposal lol. If you have the financial means to have a party I definitely advocate it.

Engagement party?
My mother is throwing us an engagement party this summer either June or July. She did the same for my sister it probably 100 it was at her house she made most of the food bought a lot from costco and a deli she deals with for catered things like heros and stuff. We are excited for it cause it will give us a chance to have our familys more than our parents and siblings meet besides for the wedding.

Engagement party?
We are doing a luncheon at La Familia in Plainview, exactly 3 months to the day that we were engaged. I didn't even think we would have one but my mom insisted. My parents and FH's father are paying for it. I didn't want a mini wedding. It is about 80 people which believe it or not is just family & bridal party. I am looking forward to it and like that it is more casual then some of the over the top engagement parties I've heard of. It will be nice for our families to meet & mingle.

Engagement party?
Now that our e-party is booked, I wish we weren't having one. We invited over 100 people and we are having it at Seaford KOC. As much as I'm looking forward to it, it has been more trouble and exhaustion than anything.

Engagement party?
We had an engagement party at a great Italian restaurant in Little Neck I have been going to since I was a kid. We invited about 50ish people. We got engaged 5/26 and had our engagement party 7/21. We gave out cute little m&m box favors with personalized ribbon. It was truly a wonderful day :)

Engagement party?
We had booked ours at a really low key place but it got destroyed in the hurricane two weeks before we were supposed to have it. Since we had family coming in from out of state, we had to book what we found that was still available and it turned out to be a mini-wedding which was not what I wanted at all. Either way, it was an awesome night and we had a great time, it was just a little over the top for me. We had it almost exactly 3 months after being engaged.

Re: Engagement party?
I think I'm the only one who had a small engagement party! we had like 28 people. my aunt & uncle let us have it in their backyard and we could have fit a lot more but they were all ehhhh about it. we basically just wanted our moms to meet. which didn't even go that well since my mom most of the time sat by the food with my aunt and his mom sat under the tent.also fh asked his men to be in the bridal party that day. of course I'm impatient and couldn't wait so I did it like a month or 2 earlier lol. our engagement party was 2 months after we got engaged. we wanted it later but my cousin would have been back at school by then.... (she's a bm)

I wish we could have a another engagement party actually now that I think of it. I would have rather had all the family there. I feel like fh's family was totally not included besides his mom & sister.

Engagement party?
Our e-party was supposed to be small, wound up a bit bigger then planned but I loved it. We had about 80 people in my fiancés dads backyard and it was really nice to see our families interacting and getting to know each other. It also did help out financially we were able to get a good chunk of money to put towards the wedding. Had we paid for it we would be in the negative though between renting a tent and the tables and chairs and linens and they had a bounce house for the kids and catered food, we could have never swung that. I wouldn't advise throwing yourself one the cost is just so high but thats just my opinion. A get together with your close family would be nice if you have a home big enough to accommodate

Engagement party?
We are having our engagement party this Saturday at the Seaford Fire House. We were engaged end of August, so just a little over 4 months later. I don't think we would be having an engagement party if we were getting married sooner, but we are getting married 8/31/14- so I think it will be nice to have a little celebration because I can't wait any longer until our wedding :):)We are having about 100 people- and I think this might be more stressful than wedding planning. I know its going to be a blast, but it's unnecessary stress right now. We are paying for it ourselves and having it catered and my sisters friend is djing, so we are staying around our budget. I love any excuse for a party :)

Engagement party?
2013-er crashing! Got engaged 9/30 had engagment party 1/27. We had a lot of people 100 or so because FH's family is humongous. We also wanted to wait til after the holidays and what not died down. But we did it at a firehouse and our parents and grand parents cooked and my cousin djed to keep costs down. My mom helped me with DIY centerpieces. All in all it went great and we got some nice gifts and some money toward the wedding.

Engagement party?
I was totally against having an engagement party, but since our engagement was going to be over 12 months (and FH really wanted one) we decided to have one. We had about 50 people for a cocktail style party @ Perabell in Patchogue on a Sunday night.

OMG I feel the SAME way!! It's so much extra work. I am having mine 3/30/13 and it's just so much extra little work. Inviting about 100 people and it's like having a mini wedding. Hoping only about 70 come but, just crazy how quickly small tasks add up

Engagement party?
we decided on a june engagement party. June 2nd to be exact. We're going to have it a house with tents in the backyard and everything. My mom wanted to throw it and I thought it would be nice. So she said she'll cook (which is wonderful because nothing beats my mama's cooking) and I think it'll be fun!Have to work on that invite list.... -_-

Engagement party?
The only reason we had an engagement party in a restaurant is because we both work for the owner and he gave us a killer discount. We had about 80 people, and it was a Saturday brunch, and it was less expensive than if we had cut the guest list in half and had it in my parents backyard. We didn't want to invite so many people, but we both have substantially large families, and we're at the point where the majority of our friends have significant others who we also invited. We purposely had it as a brunch so it wouldn't feel like a mini-wedding.
We had our party 9/15, and got engaged on 6/30, so 2 and a half months after. But if we're being perfectly honest, after booking the date at the beginning of August, I didn't do much else regarding planning until the beginning of September. I did do all the centerpieces and favors and other details myself, so if you need any help, please feel free to FM me, I have tons of ideas!
