Since were all engaged here this topic was kinda interesting to me. When i got engaged i received a 1.5 carat tiffany solitaire with tapered baguettes ...with stunning specs. Clarity, color were great. my ring is a real sparkler . However a few of my friends who recently got engaged received at 2+ carat ring, sure the rock is big, but the quality just seems poor. I absolutely love the ring FH chose for me and i hate when someone comments that the center stone couldve been bigger, or i should upgrade later since its small...one girl bluntly asked me howcome ur fiance didnt get u something bigger?? ... [didnt even congratulate me that i got engaged]
it just makes me so mad! my ring now has sentimental value to me, and like someone else on a previous thread said id rather wear a small diamond than have a piece of poo on my finger.!!
I think 1.5 is big enough. 2+ is nice too. Mine is not that big. Tcw is 2+ but the center stone is 1 carat and it sparkles and shines. It is better to have a quality stone than a huge stone of no quality.

Re: engagement ring drama
You just have to ignore some people's stupid comments. My e-ring is less than a carat. I have small fingers and thought that was the best size for my hand. I got a gorgeous stone that is sparkly and perfect and I don't care what anyone else has, because I love my ring and it's exactly the one I wanted. If someone wants/got a bigger ring, that's great, but it doesn't mean that their FH loves them more than yours loves you, it just means their FH thought they'd like a bigger diamond better. End of story.

My E-Ring's TCW with center and side stones is .90 and I love it.

Re: engagement ring drama
That's my ring, and frankly, I don't want it any bigger. I too get comments of how small it is. But I shut people up by letting them know that I don't care, that fact that the ring was from FH is what gives it value, no what the gems in it are worth. But the truth of the matter is that my FH knew I couldn't wear anything bigger: I was in a car accident and fracture the bone leading to the ring finger in my left hand. After months of physical therapy i was able to use my left hand, but it's not as strong as it use to be, and my knuckle is slightly deformed, and the fact that FH took that into consideration when getting my ring means alot to me.

Re: engagement ring drama
honestly, you are sounding like you are a little jealous.
you are saying you dont like people judgin you because of your TIFFANYS (you had to point that out!) 1.5 carat ring - which I am sure is gorgeous.
but then you say 'well hers is 2 carats, but the quality is poor' - you are doing the same thing that she did to you!
its your ring, YOU wear it, it only matters what YOU think.
someone is always going to have a bigger/nicer car/ring/house, etc. than you.

Touchy subject! Actually it really depends on the ring design, you hand/finger shape. On a personal note, my ring is smaller than DH originally looked at (half Carat...yep... half the the size!!!). But the ring looks better on my finger. The jeweler even agreed.
I would not even respond to someone who make a comment on the size of your ring. Totally low class so I would not even bother.

Re: engagement ring drama
I guarantee I have one of the smaller center stones of all the girls on LIW. It is .59 (I just checked the GIA certificate). It was what my DH could afford and I love it. I actually have NEVER had anyone say anything about the size. That's just really rude. Do I get jealous of other girls? Yes and no...while I would never change my ring or upgrade it, if we ever came into some money I wouldn't turn down an anniversary ring
Don't listen to other people's comments. Because someone who would make that kind of comment is just not worth the effort.

Re: engagement ring drama
Big or small..... sparkly or cloudy.... DOESN'T MATTER!
The ring is a symbol that someone wants to spend the rest of their life with you... that should be enough!

No, im not jealous at all, its just that other people's mentality is upsetting, i have never in my life told someone their ring should be bigger or its quality is poor, but when people are commenting such as her, that my ring could be bigger, they should look at what they have on theif finger first. Its not about jealousy at all, i just cant comprehend the rationale behind someone critizing a piece of jewelry they got from their loved one. i dont think you understand my point

Re: engagement ring drama
I agree with you-my center stone is 1 karat and the two side stone are .5 karats each-I wouldn't change a thing-I love my ring.
My one friend made a comment-'that is so cute-so you like a small ring?'
Meanwhile this same friend forced her husband to upgrade her ring to 2 karats-even though they couldn't afford it and then complained that it still wasn't big enough.

i understand your point - but for you to have to point out that your ring is from Tiffanys make me think you feel you need to prove yourself.
and you dont! I could care less if i had a 3 carat J color or a 1 carat d color - its what the ring symbolizes!

Re: engagement ring drama
When my DH went ring shopping the woman tried talking him into a bigger center ring. (Mind you, I'm not a girly girl. I didn't even own a purse until his mom got me one 2 years ago. If it didn't fit in my pocket, I didn't need it. Anyway....) My DH looked at her and said 'She wouldn't be able to put her hand in her pocket with a bigger ring'. The woman thought he was insane.
He gave me the ring and it was even more beautiful that I could've imagined. A few weeks later he mentioned that the woman tried to sell him a bigger center stone. I said 'No way!!! I couldn't put my hand in my pocket then!' I guess he knew me really well.
Funny thing is...... at pre-cana I sat with 2 girls complaining they had problems getting their hand in their pocket with their big stones.

Re: engagement ring drama
It's the sentiment and what you think of when you look at it that matters - when you met, how your story began and all the chapters in between. While I understand what you are saying - there's more to life, ya know?

Don't let something like that bother you! Your ring should be special to you because of what it represents, not how big it is, or how good the quality is.

not for nothing...but ppl like that should have to shampoo my dog's dirty crack.
anyone who actually has the audacity to make comments on your ring to you---is a completely unclassy rude wench...and quite frankly i can't imagine any one who i'd refer to as a 'friend' say something so rude to me.
when ppl make comments like that...simply say 'well my FH decided that QUALITY not QUANTIY was a better investment, cause after all, when it comes to diamonds, just because it's bigger does NOT mean it's better'

You are totally correct and anyone that does have the nerve to say that to someone does not even deserve a response - what they need is some classes in etiquette.
