For all the computer people on the board.... UPDATE

Original post by NYCHICK

What is the best cd to use for my cd favors. I know some of them have a yellow look to them as oppsed to the silver color that the record labels use to print for their artists. Which would you say is the closest to the best that I can get as a regular joe? I know there has to be some that are better than others. Thanks a bundle

Well I have much praises to all of you for wonderful suggestions. So apparenltly I HAVE a cd on my laptop that I knew nothing about for 2 years(damn that sears salesguy ). I am listening to all the tracks off the wedding cd and so far so good. It sounds great.

I am using TDK, 700mb, 80 mins. Cd-R. I only made one cd just to listen can I use these cd's to burn all of my favors? The tag says they were made in india.

I have gained alot of experience in that time but on a geek scale of one to ten I'm a 6 at best. You are a 10 MR H! LOL JK

It's funny, because it's true. When you do this for a living (not converting Mp3's or making CD's mind you) and get asked for help from everyone you know, you kinda figure it all out.

If you guys all used the same recording program I do, I could make you a tutorial on how to do them. Lemme see if I can find a freeware software burning solution that isn't too hard to use.

It's really quality vs. the look you want. Most people will know the CD is not pressed, real Cd's dont have paper labels. Given that, try to find 'Made in Japan' on the side of the discs. Usually Fujifilm and TDK are made in Japan. Try looking at some websites for stores around here, u might find them on sale.

I am defintely interested in the quality more than the look. I am having customized labels made for the cd's so that takes care of the look.(was going to have them pressed but did not want to go throught the aggravation for less than 100 cd's). SO anything that is made in japan is going to be of good quality

keep in mind what your background will be. If u have a white space, the text of the cd will show through.. try to find a cd that on top has little or nothing on it (This is if you are just using text on a white color). If you have a color phot taking up the whole label, you don't need to worry whats on top. Sony, TDK, Maxwell, Imation are all good choices

Re: For all the computer people on the board....

I did flub a little on the iTunes issue. Copy the files to the local iTunes library from the ipod. Then create a new playlist, and add whatever songs you want. Click on the play list, and you can burn them.

I'm going to work on a whole tutorial about how to do this, but I need to figure out where to host it first.

I already created a playlist of the songs I want for the cd and it the correct sequence. I just hope they come out sounding ok.

Yeah I'm everybodys free tech support. LOL I gotta start charging....help pay for the wedding!
NYCHICK, just burn one cd and listen to it all the way through. I'm sure it will be fine! I hear ya on the craft thing. You would think being a geek and all I would do something like the cd thing. I was thinking about it but everyone would prolly hate the songs FH and I picked.
I was thinking about making my own soaps.

If they sound ok on your ipod, they will sound ok on your stereo.

The only problem I see is moving hte files off the ipod on to the other computer.

If you want to just move the songs, and convert them to wav, I suggest using the freeware dbAmp program. With the plugin you download off the website, you can convert AAC to Mp3, then use your cd burner of choice to record them.

What problems do you see? Should I just go ahead and have a cd burner put into my laptop? How much does that cost?

I wouldn't bother, the cost would probably be stupid. You can though, buy an external USB burner. You can get them for around $100 I think. What kind of laptop is it anyway?

wow and it did not come standard w/ a cdrw?

Re: For all the computer people on the board....

I honestly have never tried to burn a cd on it, but the salesguy in the store said it did not have a cd burner. The laptop was bought about 2 years ago.

Re: For all the computer people on the board....

I'm thinking it probably did. Are you sure it's not a recorder? Have you tried? Maybe throw a CD in, and try to record.

Without having the exact model of the laptop, there are about 15 1200 models on the compaq support site, I cant say it does or not. But the 1200 series manual says cdrw.
