I have always wanted to get my PADI certification, and figured this was a good time to do it. DH and I went to Pan Aqua in the city. There are a couple of different options on how long you can take:

-a weekend intensive: Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, from about 4-11pm. Half is in a classroom setting, 1/2 in a pool.

-weekday intensive 3 weekday evenings, same as the weekend schedule.

-2 weekend course: same stuff, but stretched into two weekends

We did the weekend intensive in June. It was a lot to learn in such a small period of time, and I wish we had gone with the 2 weekend course.

The second part is the Open Water course, which we completed at Dutch Springs, which is a quarry in Bethlehem, PA. It is two full days, Saturday and Sunday. It is basically a repitition of all the skills you learned in the pool, plus compass navigation. Compass navigation is not done in the pool b/c you can't find north due to the metal pipes.

After that, you get a temporary certification card.

Was it hard? HELL YES! You do not have to be an Olympic swimmer, but you DO have to be comfortable in the water. I am an anxious person by nature, and it was really difficult for me. DH is pretty Zen, and he had a much easier time. That's another thing- if you do it, I recommend you do it with your DH (or someone who you are very close to). It makes things easier.

Jenny, my flight arrives at midnight in Tahiti, so we got stuck sleeping there for a night.

How many nights in each place are you planning on? I'd consult a travel agent. I think you would have to fly into Tahiti from Fiji, then get a ferry or a small plane to Moorea. I don't think there are any international flights in/out of Moorea.

I'm not even sure if i can stay at these islands....i just bought a timeshare and they have propertiees in Fiji and Moorea...so i have to call and see if its availiable....(crossing my fingers) then stay at Bora Bora Pearl....but who knows!!!

people stay over night in tahiti cause the flight gets in at midnight. by the time you go through customs it is 1am.

and there are no planes or ferries to moorea or bora bora at 1am.

so it is better to stay one night and then just take the early morning ferry or plane.

if you get a day flight and arrive in tahiti before 4pm, you can make the 5:45 ferry or the 6pm plane to moorea. otherwise, you are stuck on tahiti for one night.

look on expedia, it has the flights and times listed!!

OH MY GOODNESS i am so happy for you. have a good flight - they serve you dinner as soon as you get on the plane so dont worry about food..

we ate before we got on and then got served so we wasted our money at au bon pain!

Cause I feel like it... nah im just kidding I swear.

Becuase we figured 2 nts to get the jet lag off when we arrive and than a couple weeks ago we wanted to add 2 more Nts to our trip, but Bora Bora is totally booked and it would screw up our itinerary if we added it to the middle in Moorea. So I said lets stay in the city for 2 nts and have some fun. So we are staying at IC Papeete before we leave.

i'm going to TRY and upload them tonight.. im sorry.. forgive me.

we stayed at the IC Papeete - it was gorgeous.

word of advice, unless u have a meal plan, find a place to have breakfast- we spent 70 bucks on breakfast. if you find a small place - breakfast will only be like 20 bucks.

on moorea we stayed at teh pearl and we walked to the town- 3 minute walk and ate in this place called la patissiere EVERY breakfast and Lunch and saved a fortune -- the food was great

and little tip- The ICE CReAM ON TAHITI IS FABULOUS!!!!!!
