Myasmom, thats one of the Democrats reasons for bringing the draft back, to make it equal team fighting, not just the poor and middle america who need help to get to go to college etc.

I see everyone stating about the draft...On Tuesday October 5, 2004 the House crushed the Military Draft Bill...It was a 402-2 vote...Once I bill is dead, it can not be brought up again in the same terms...

Thats my view too.. I agree that we should respect other countries input..but there will be a time when we dont see eye to eye. Its ploitics, money, trade etc that countries think about..sometimes the people would like to think that they come first but sometimes..that is not the case

Vicky, the election is not based on one issue. Do you think the war is all people voted on? Do you think that's why 11 stated banned gay marraige?

I am not suggesting that the election was based on one issue nor am I suggesting that the war is all people voted on. I am just stating that in the past, no matter what the other issues have been, America voted to support out president during war-time. 47% of people not voting for him was ABSOLUTLY based on issues other than and including the war...which makes it even worse.

We live in a global community, and decisions made about foreign countries should be global decisions...not Bush decisions. Anyone who thinks the US is above the rest is just not seeing the big picture.

What you should be saying is President Bush ONLY got 53% of the votes in this country.

What are you talking about??? Bush is the first president since 1988 to get the majority of the popular vote (including the oh-so-beloved Clinton, both times) and he received more votes than any president in American history.

Re: GEORGE BUSH WON

Beth you are proving the reason why the election turned out the way it did.. we have 2 primary candidates but each of them have issues that some people can support yet there are those that we cant..so what do we do..we cant vote for half of BUSH and glue him together with the best parts of KERYY.. there can only be one president...and the people voted for who they thought was the better cnadidate..not necessarily THE BEST!

Karacg, no other country is required to go out to the UN or other nation to ask permission if they want to bomb someone. Not a one. This is only a requirement, it seems, for the US. We are not even allowed to close our own borders without asking permission. Is that not insane?

There's a funny thing about politics, the President doesn't make the final decisions, the people do. How? By who they vote into congress. Congress is the voice of the people.

I think we need a third, larger party. The 2 party system sucks!

and this term is almost over...

Re: GEORGE BUSH WON

This draft bill has been in the house since 2003...the term of bill has nothing to do with the term of the house...They can remake a bill but not under the same stipulations that the original bill was under.

Ok, I think its time for acceptance to begin. President Bush got 53% of the votes in this country. You have to accept that and move on. If you guys reallywant to make change, it's not with the president anway, it's with congress.

If over half of the voters want him in office, that has to tell you want the majority of the country is thinking. They want what he has, for whatever reason. But don't worry, he only has 4 more years, then he will be gone.

What you should be saying is President Bush ONLY got 53% of the votes in this country. He should be ashamed of himself. NEVER in this country's history has a president EVER had such a close re-election during war time.

During war time the incumbent has always blown away the opposition.

I think the fact that it was so close and the fact that 47% of our country didn't vote for him says a lot about him and about this war.

I couldn't have said it any better. Close to half the country isn't happy with him, that says something for a re election.

actually I think its the oppoaite. It means that he is not doing as bad a job as so many put out n the media not he would ahve lost by a landslide.

OMG, is no one paying attention??? No president since George HW Bush has received more than 50% of the popular vote. NOT EVEN CLINTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For god's sake, pay attention to the facts. 53% of the popular vote is pretty damn good, especially in an election that was supposed to be one of the closest in history.

As JFK once said, even one additional vote is a mandate. 3.7 million of them makes for one hell of a mandate.

MONKEYBRIDE I AGREE. I WENT OUT AND VOTED. IT ALSO DIDNT HELP WITH THAT TEACHER THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAND IN VOTER REGISTRATION CARDS FOR HER STUDENTS AND NEVER DID. THERE ARE VOTES OUT THE WINDOW. WE WOULD AHVE BEEN BETTER OFF HAVING MICKEY MOUSE IN OFFICE!!!!! I VOTED FOR KERRY. BUSH DOESNT DESERVE TO BE PRESIDENT. HE HAS GONE TO WAR FOR NO GOOD REASON. IN THE WRONG COUNTRY ANYWAY. PLUS WHEN A DEMOCRAT IS IN OFFICE HOUSE PRICES GO DOWN AND WE DONT HAVE AS MUCH REVENUE IN OUR COUNTRY. WE WANT CHEAPER HOUSE PRICES. I AM SO DEPRESSED. KERRY SHOULD HAVE WON

I couldn't agree more!

BUSH DOESNT DESERVE TO BE PRESIDENT.

Bush deserves to be President because Bush won the election. You may not agree with his politics and policies but to say that he does not deserve to be president undermines 53% of the voting population in America by insinuating that your opinion should count more than theirs.

Where were all the young people?

If I heard correctly only 10% of young voters made it to the polls.
What a shame
It will be a sad 4 years for our country.

This is the thing that I am most upset about. I heard on ABC that the stat was only 17% of voters from the ages of 18-30 actually voted. It's very depressing that in a time where there are so many issues for young people to be concerned about that only a small percent voted. It was also surprising since I thought MTV did a very good job of informing young people that their vote counts, that there are issues on the table affecting them directly, etc.

What I am talking about is a president's re-election during war time. My entire post was about the re-election of a president during war-time. Bill Clinton was not re-elected during a war.

What I am saying is that with all of the past elections that have taken place DURING A WAR the imcumbent has always overwhelmingly beat the opposition. I think it is interesting that 47% of our country did not feel they could support this president EVEN while we are ina war.

I am not trying to start an argument, and this is just my opinion but I think it is very interesting to look at it a different way. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000 but when he decided to go to war I supported him because he was the president of my country and I felt that if he believed we should go, than we should go. Now however (and within the last year or so) I feel that we were mislead.

It doesn't matter now because it is over and what's done is done. All I am saying is that all other presidents re-elected during war have been much more strongly supported by Americans and that history would suggest that Bush should have blown Kerry away. It says something that 47% of people didn't support him and that the election was so close.
