It is really sad that so many people were duped into voting against their best interests so that they could discriminate against other people.

Why do you assume people were 'duped'? Once again, you are insinuating that Bush supporters are dumb, stupid, blind, whatever and to be quite honest, it's really pi$$ing me off.

I am extremely informed and quite open minded, especially when it comes to social issues (I fully support gay marriage and pro-choice). However, simply because those are your top priorities doesn't mean they're everyone's.

I'm sorry but people really need to stop inserting their judgment into other people's choices.

A nice summation of how I, and probably some of us, feel right now. From The New Republic....

THE MORAL OF THIS STORY: According to the voter breakdown that CNN is currently hawking, the top reason that Bush voters gave for supporting their guy was not the economy, not Iraq, not even the war on terrorism. It was 'moral values.' That's right, with American soldiers dying overseas, Al Qaeda still gunning for us at home, the deficit spiraling, the gap between rich and poor growing, Social Security on the brink, etc., etc., Bush's reelection was driven by a bunch of folks freaked out over the thought of gay marriage and stem-cell research.

God save the republic.

At the end of the day, it was those born-againers fro Southern Ohio that swung the election.

No I'm not insinuating anything. I do assert however that one can be be mislead even if they are intelligent and 'informed'.If you would like me to clarify the context of my statement I would be happy to. One example-didn't folks in Congress vote to go to war based on faulty intelligence?

Further, you don't know what my top priorities were in my decision to vote, so kindly don't assume.

As for your being pissed off because I think Bush supporters voted against their best interests, I can't help you with that. I'm entitled to my opinion.

CubanBride,

I am getting off work now, but promise to respond to your question later this evening. If you would like me to FM you I can do that too. I'm thinking the response to this question will be lengthy.

Unfortunately I disagree with this statement but thats from privaledged information..you may find that military in special opps jobs , communications and intelligence squadrons may not agree with you. But based on certain factors cannot tell you why the information was not faulty...

And has it never one time entered your mind that people may actually think differently from you? You, the enlightened one?? I read another post of yours - I was Poli Sci also, went to grad school for International Affairs, blahblahblah. Your doctorate in Political Science does not give your opinion more validity than anyone else's. Because you believe one thing does NOT mean that people who believe something contrary have been 'misled', were 'duped' or are 'dummies'. (Those were all your words, based on various posts.)

I just think that you must have one big set to make the claim that unless others look at things the way you do, they MUST be misled. This stuff is not black and white - there is a very large grey area and to assume that you're so right and anyone who doesn't agree with you is somehow misled is just beyond arrogance.

Believe me, I understand very well that many people in this country think differently than me. It became even more clear to me as I watched the number of red states spread across that map on CNN on Nov. 2nd.

And I would say that enlightened is more than an apt word to describe me, thanks for using it. If you think I am arrogant again I can't help you there. I have not attacked you personally, so I don't know why your knickers are in such a knot.

In reference to your comment about 'dummies', let me clarify as I did in a later post, I was referring specifically to George Bush, not the people who voted for him.

OK I know this is sooo not a funy thread but the line about Knickers in a knot has me LMAO.

Lets agree to disagree. Bush is president and if its one thing I am sure we agree on..is that we hope he does what is best for the USA.

Hey Myasmom,

I was just about to FM you, but I am so tired of writing these posts now. Let's agree to disagree. But, maybe when we get to meet we can talk some more about this. :)

Defintely. I think that sometimes listening to each other's views are a good thing. My parents are democratic and I am in the middle. I am mostly democratic in my beliefs but when it comes to religious issues..my republican side comes out. So I am the one in the grey area who just wish that everyone could just get their perfect utopia.
