You're in-laws are being ridiculous!! Ronkonkoma to Wading River is not a long distance to drive. I had family coming from Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Jersey out to Bayport. DO NOT concern yourself with this. Everyone has had to travel to a wedding at some point in their life. You do it because you care about that person and you want to celebrate with them.

I heard the discussion on the radio as well. Kind ridiculous....I live in PA and I have guests coming from Florida, NJ, PA, CO. If I'm traveling for my own wedding so can others. I did it in NY so most of my guests could be accomodated. If you live in LI and the wedding is in LI you have nerve to be bitching about it.... XOXOXO Kitty

it's the stupidity of the discussions like this one on Z100 among other things that made me stop listening to them. Now I listen to the Q104 morning show, and I don't ever get the feeling of calling in to b!tch out the hosts.

i agree about the holiday weekend thing. i'm getting married memorial day wekeend and i did that b/c i have a lot of OOT guests, including FH and his family who are from philadelphia. in my experience, the past few years i've spent memorial day wekeend and labor day weekend at weddings. mine is on a saturday so ppl have sunday and monday for hte long weekend if they want to complain about it beign on a holiday. but i think ti was rude of them to say that.

It's a good thing I don't listen to that radio station. Not only am I having my reception at East Wind, but it is also on the Sunday before Columbus Day. In EW's opinion b/c Monday is a holiday ( ??? no one from my job or FH's has the day off) they are entitled to charge Saturday night prices. No savings for us. I drive 20-25 minutes to get to work in Ronkonkoma every day, and not from the east, but from the west. My family (and his) is perfectly willing to drive the hour+ to get to EW.

Holiday weekends are not cheap, I am getting married on the Sunday before memorial day but that was just to help me guests out they can party without havin gto worry about work and my OOT guests would not have to take time off from work.
A day before a holiday can be treated as a Saturday night.

I wanted to get married at East Wind and my family was complaining about the distance and I live about 15 min from Ronkonkoma. I didn't hear what was said though.
It takes me about 30 to 45 min from the St. James area to get to East Wind, so Ronkonkoma is a little closer.
I would drive for someone's wedding, it doesn't bother me. Also, I went to a wedding on New Years and thought it was fantastic!!!

Hamlet Wind Watch in Hauppauge! I almost booked Estate at East Wind. I was between the Hamlet, Estate and Watermill.

Wow.. that is horrible! I live on the South Shore of Staten Island & my wedding is in Long Island... Im not complaining about travelling! THE NERVE of those people. I didn't even hear this discussion this morning, but just from reading these posts, this really bothers me. These friggen radio stations will do anything for ratings.

I am actually one of the few people who is having my wedding before a holiday to SAVE money. I not being cheap, its just what I can afford being me and FH are paying for the weddings ourselves. We also feel that people are more likely to come if they have off the next day, and if someone has a problem coming, please do me a favor and stay home. Obiviously the girl on the radio felt a holdiay was much more important than celebrating someone's wedding. I hope she wasn't considered to be a close friend or relative.

I'm getting married on a Sunday in November at East Wind. FH and I chose it because it is the place that felt most like 'us'; distance had nothing to do with it. If people are going to travel from another state to go to a wedding, they'll travel to Wading River. As for people who live on LI, if they don't want to drive the distance, it's their loss.

Our wedding is on FRIDAY evening in the beginning of June at East Wind.
Our guests will have to deal with rush hour traffic as well as all of the Hampton traffic heading out east on a Friday night. It has the potential to be an LIE nightmare!
We almost booked our wedding for Memorial Day weekend, but then switched to the first weekend in June instead. Guess the DJ's on Z100 would have really hated me then!
Sometimes I feel bad that our guests will have to deal with the traffic, but as FH nicely reminds me...just b/c they are invited to the wedding, doesn't mean they have to come. If it's too much of an inconviennce for them, then they can choose to 'decline with regret'!

I just emailed them. It was bugging me way too much to just let it go. I feel like it's a stupid thing to get all riled up about but I can't help it - I am still riled up!
The thing that pissed me off the most was Danielle telling her mother to purposely refuse to go to a wedding JUST because it was a holiday weekend. I mean, c'mon! That's just ridiculous.
I'm sure they don't care what I think and I almost feel like they'll read my email on the radio and try to embarrass me somehow (since they've been known to do that with complaint emails) but whatever.

That is not far at all and no-one should be complaining. As for the holiday thing, that is ridiculous. I am also getting married the friday after thanksgiving and am getting no discount what so ever. In fact we had to guarantee the sat night nummber for people.

I'm paying saturday prices for a Friday for the same reason!
I can't believe people actually feel that way.
Shorty, I had the day after Thanksgiving for the same reasons as you and I also paid more than usual Friday night prices.
People are going to complain no matter when/where you have your wedding. If they don't like it, they are not forced to come!

I am having my wedding at east wind and I have people coming from ALL over, if they want to be there they will! If they dont, that means they arent worth having there to begin with...anyone I would want there would travel! And it is a holiday weekend...which many of my guests like..since they can make it a long weekend!

I also heard the call this morning on Z100. If people want to come to your wedding they will find away. I doubt the bride is an LIW bride, or else I think she would have come on here for advice. And isn't there that suffolk county law about getting all of your deposit back except for like $500??
