Re: Greek Brides??
Thanks so much for the info Lenitsa and all the other girls! Now, I can hopefully not shy away from being the first in teh dance. I went to a wedding a few months ago and got stuck up front - I was so so scared!!!Marcela - I am probably going to go closer to the wedding - maybe after the bar next year...yikes!! I was going to write next summer first and then the fact that I have to take the bar hit me!
I still have a long time before my wedding
- so if I start now I am never going to remmeber it all - but since I want to learn tricks for the basic dances that I already know I am going to have to go for a bunch of lessons. On a side note - I was wondering if all the Greek brides would like to get together for coffee one night?

Re: Greek Brides??
Also, re: PS band. I spoke with Chris this PM and let's just say he not making it to my top 10 list. He also suggested a DJ, and I kinda baulked at the thought. Who's gonna play for you during your song, cake cutting and ... I responded with can't you play a CD or tape? What I should have said was you dumb a$$. He actually asked me a stupid rhetorical question -- do you want your wedding to be good? I should have responded with No, that is why I called you! I'm sorry just venting a bit. I have been to Remy many times and do really enjoy them, but the attitude I can do without.

Re: Greek Brides??
Hi ladies! Welcome Lenitsa! And Junebride... have fun and enjoy the sun!!!!!FH and I are planning to take Greek lessons too. Not sure where yet. For my brother's wedding, we took a few private lessons at Kalina's...It was good even though I dont remember much... I think I'll pay more attention this time.
Milos is great, and Savva is a really nice guy. I saw them at a wedding a couple of years ago and they made an impression.
If you ladies want to meet for coffee, count me in.
I am baptising a baby in November.... I will definitely check out Eleni's.

Re: Greek Brides??
I have been pretty busy doing wedding stuff the past few weeks. One day mom and I were driving by Manhasset and we decided to stop at Macy's to look at dresses. They were really nice -- I did not even have an appointment. The first one I tried on was very pretty, I really loved the second one and the third was was very nice as well. I might end up buying the second one... but I feel like I should look more cause I don't know what else is 'out there'.We also started registering. We went to Macy's and Fortunoff's... We have changed our crystal three times in the past week... our casual china has changed four times! I am going craaaaazy! I see china patterns when I close my eyes!
And of course I had to register for the Kitchenaid mixer... all my friends have one, but nobody has ever used it... but they all swear that it's a must have. Did you know it comes in like 20 colors and in 3 different sizes and different wattage? But how else will I make koulourakia and kourambiedes if I ever decide to make them?Any other recommendations for stores to look at?

Re: Greek Brides??
OMG, Debbie, we haven't registered yet and you're scaring me
As for dresses, I got mine at Flowerama in Elmont. Actually a Greek girl that I went to law school worked there and I got it through her. But she is no longer there, b/c she's pregnant.

Re: Greek Brides??
Olgaki, yes, I'm talking about that same Chris.Deby, if you are in Manhasset area there is supposed to be another v. nice bridal salon there, but I don't know their rep for service. Just see the name in mane adverts in bridal mags. I haven't even started looking at dresses. I'm taking the day off tomorrow and my FSIL has agreed to join me. She's awesome.

Re: Greek Brides??
Thanks for the heads up Olga! I just called and spoke with Christos Lambropoulos and got a quote - i think I am pretty happy with it because we are going to have the basic band, clarino, violi and a DJ - (9 people!! insane!) - i do want to go hear them first - so he suggested going to hear them play at a wedding at the Cresent Beach Club next weekend. Has anyone ever done that before? I thought that was weird but it would be a great opportunity to hear them play in a weddign setting. He was really nice on the phone and I love the fact that he insisted we go listen to them instead of playing on teh reputation that they have. I mentioned that we are interested in Papastefanou being the singer and he went on how all his singers are great - so i can see how they arent going to guarantee us that. We are probably going to go hear Papastefanou sing at Remy next sat also. Hopefully this will be my only inquiry!! and it will go smoothly! He is already booked for the day before my day!!!I left a message for Accoustical Fantasy and they never got back to me - Olga - did they take some time to get back to you?

Re: Greek Brides??
OK, FH brother has a friend that plays the violin and has connections with bands - i found out today the bands he has connections with are the Acoustics and Acoustical Fantasy - and get this - he doesnt work with Powerstation because the arent good...??? what? Ok i have never heard them play but all the girls are raving about it and one of my friends booked them - what is they talking about? I am more likely to believe all of yoru opinions rather than some guy who would be getting us a deal....Is it because they have two bands? Is that why Lambropoulos made it a point to have us go see Powerstation at a wedding? I'm confused now.I didnt get in touch with Acoustical Fantasy yet, but by the quote that Olga gave me - i calculated how much it would cost with the DJ and the extra musicians that I want and it would cost pretty much the same as Powerstation (but - i can get a better price since FH brother's friend is playing the violin and knows the band) - I dont know what to do now.
I have to hear them first to decide anythign I guess -

Re: Greek Brides??
Georgia: Did he say anything about going to see them play at Remy this weekend? He never told us to go to a reception hall. But FH's friend did go see them play at one of the reception halls and at Remy before booking them. So it's normal.

Re: Greek Brides??
He said that this weekend his singers are on vacation so he didnt really push this weekend even though the band will be playing. Next Sat Papastefanou will be back and will be the one singing, while the Nick singer (I have no clue what his last name is) will still be on vacation. - He isnt guaranteeing a specific singer form teh way he was speaking.I didnt know that the band included a male and female singer -

Re: Greek Brides??
It includes a male and female? I didn't know that either. He also told us Nick was good and that Papstefano will be in Greece next year in May.I think he was going to gaurantee us Nick though. But I think he told my FFIL for us to go this weekend to Remy to go see Nick
I'm going to have to speak to FFIL again and get the story. Maybe FFIL understood wrong. Thanks for the info

Re: Greek Brides??
I just spoke to my FMIL and now the guy is saying that we may get Papastefano b/c if he goes to Greece now he'll be back by May. I'm going over FH's house in a bit and FFIL is going to call them. I will let you know what happens.

Re: Greek Brides??
Georgia - it took Accoustical Fantacy less than a day to get back to us. I left a message at noon and he called around 9pm. He has ALWAYS gotten back to me on time. I don't know if he's on vacation or not though so that might be an issue. As for powerstation not being good - that's a matter of opinion. I have heard that they have moments about not being professional - i.e. guaranteeing Papastefanou and him not showing or him leaving after an hour. But I don't think it's that common for that to happen.
I heard Powerstation and I heard Accoustical Fantacy and they are different but both good. That might just be the violi guy playing politics and giving the people he works for a little free advertisement. Take everything you hear from this industry with a grain of salt!
