Re: Greek Brides??
Thanks so much everyone!!!!!!!!!! I am so nervous! and excited!!!!!!!!I will definitely try to post some pics. The only problem is that the memory stick in my digital camera is so small, I cant take too many pictures... Unless I run to staples today.
Marcella, I think demetra posted after New year's or Christmas... I think she said that she has been busy or out of town with work.
How exciting, she is probably due soon!I am going to try to take a pic of my invites now and post them. I am starting the calligraphy on Tuesday!
Oh, and I have a job interview next Monday!
The firm is in Garden City... dont know much about them, but it's worth checking out, even if it's just to get some more interviewing experience. One question that always stumps me (Although they usually dont ask me this): Strengths and Weaknesses?

Re: Greek Brides??
Yes Debbie, How was your shower??You are probably prepping for your interview - GOOD LUCK!!
You are going to do great - ETA: With the weaknesses question - the key to that is to always make it positive- always show how you have overcome it - whether on your own, through a class, through a previous position - and that experience has made you a more productive individual

Re: Greek Brides??
Where in the world is Carmen SanDiego????? LMAO!!!!Hi ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!! My shower was sooooooooo amazing!!!!!! I had a great time, everything was so nice.
Like I said, I had never been there before, so I had no idea what to expect. We had the room upstairs that overlooks the water and bridge - the view was breathtaking- and it was such a clear day out, it made it even better. And the food was excellent. The staff made sure I ate. They really took care of me.
My sis-in-law and mom really outdid themselves. Every detail was taken care of. My sis-in-law had a guestbook and next to that, a jar with our names engraved that also said 'marriage advice' on it... and there was a notepad next to it and the women would write marriage tips... Fh and I got quite a laugh reading some of them afterwards. There was also some kind of bingo game ging on while I opened my presents and they were giving out gift bags to the winners.
I have been to many showers, and I can honeslty say that our gift-opening was the most efficient I have seen. First of all, the staff on Caffe on the Green was great. Every two or three gifts that I opened, they would come up discretely and move the gifts to the other side of the room - they also packaged everything back in the box very well. So there wasnt any commotion while putting the opened gifts aside. There was also a guy collecting all the wrapping paper. They really did impress me with how helpful they all were. The friends that were helping out were all great. They each took on a 'job' and really made things go so smooth... a couple of girls got the gifts from the tables, two other ones unwrapped them, one collected the bows, and one wrote down the names and gifts. I dont think anyone got restless with the gift-giving.
My guests were great... I think we invited about 70 people and 62 came! We had two from North Carolina and five from Connecticut. The hall included the cake, and some of the women made sweets (biscotti, baklava, galaktobouriko, diples, halva, korambiedes, some apple thing). Apparently, kourambiedes and halva are traditional for brides. - and my sis-in-law and MOH made chocolate lollipops (but they were white and pink).
I liked that there were five long tables instead of a lot of little ones - made it cozier and everyone was interacting. All I can say is that I really had soooo much fun. And I was really touched by everyone's love and generosity. I feel so fortunate to have these people in my life. I never imagined that it would be so great.

Re: Greek Brides??
Oh- I forgot to mention that token Greek woman that has to pu her two-cents in. She told my mom to tell me that the gifts should be unwrapped more towards the front. And my mom said, let the girls do it how they like. So then she went and told my aunt the same thing, and my aunt said that the way it was being done was fine. So she finally came and told me - while i was in the middle of opening a gift- and I just smiled, nodded... and then continued to do it the same way
Is there one of these ladies at every shower? And let me say, on her behalf, that she is a sweatheart woman, heart of gold. I dont know what got into her.

Re: Greek Brides??
Oh, and I gave a speech!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It went OK. I thanked everyone for coming and then said I hoped to see them at my wedding on April 25th (it almost felt like I was advertising my wedding
). And then I blanked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (only for a few seconds) Like a little girl, I looked over at my mom's table for help, but my mom was not there, but I saw the lady from N. Carolina and it all came back to me. So I went on to thank the people who came from out of state and the people who brout sweets, and............... almost blanked again, found my mom this time..... and said thanks to my sis-in-law and mom for throwing me the party, and thanks to mom-in-law for giving me the love of my life. At that point I had redeemed myself... everyone was saying ooohhhhhh, how sweet!

Re: Greek Brides??
Oh, they made that hat for me too, and it actually looked really good... or as good as a hat like that can look. My mom had bought a real hat with a pretty large rim, and my friend who attached the ribbons is very artistic, so she did a great job and the hat stayed on! I highly recommend that you hint to your mom to get a hat like that- makes life a lot easier... but not much less embarassing

Re: Greek Brides??
I keep remembering stuff- sorry for the overkill! I wish I had some pics to post, but dont have any yet.The caffe on the green guys helped us take the stuff out to the car too, which was great. I have to send them all a thank-you card.
I got some sexy lingerie, and I waved it around for everyone to see. You know how Greek women get! 'Oh, ah, what are you going to do with those?'
I didnt get too many doubles. And they bought almost everything off my registry, except for some of my good glasses, my vaccuum, and my luggage and a few other things (not that many people shopped at Crate and Barrrel), .. one doubles I was happy about was my cookware! I can return them and get my luggage or vaccuum, and my MIL had told us that she wanted to buy us something in addition to what she had already bought - but she wanted to wait til after the shower to buy us a big item that was left on the registry. So she can get us our vaccuum or luggage.Oh, my interview is next Monday, not today, but thanks for the well-wishes. They actually called me for another one today. It is a lawyer who has his own talent agency... he interviewed me for about twenty minutes on the phone, and I am meeting with him this thursday... should be interesting. money is not too good, but there's potential. Wish me luck! I am so nervous.
And today FH took the day off and we went to look at some co-ops. That went OK too.
