Re: Greek Brides??
I got a phone call from my church yesterday telling me that they don't allow any instruments to play for the processional, but they will allow the organ!
WTF!!! Is an organ not an instrument??My mom is calling the church for me on Monday morning to fight this. I am soooo upset because it is my dream to have a string quartet playing Pachabel's Canon in D as I walk down the aisle. I am not giving up and i am fighting this. I don't understand their reasoning of not allowing strings to play processional music.
Meanwhile, I asked the company I am interested in booking if they have played in Greek Orthodox Churches before and she said they have plenty of times.
I might have to find a new church girls. I am so upse.t

I'm so sorry Angela. Good Luck
Georgia: FH spoke to his friend. The designer of the dress is Ron Lovece and she bought it at the Wedding Salon of Manhasset.
Here's the designer's website

- she flatly said she hates all strapless, which sucks bec most of the ones i like are strapless- oh well - my wedding not hers right!
One of the few dresses that she did say she liked was the one that your friend wore- (and she hadnt even seen teh front!)Thanks again!!!!
ETA: Peter must now think I am a psycho bride!

Re: Greek Brides??
Did anyone buy their stefana yet? Does the silver tray come with them? I'd rather buy our own. Do you know what size the tray is?What size lambathes is everyone getting?
Did anyone shop at Portara on Bell Blvd.? The store looks very small from the outside. Do they have much of a selection and how are their prices?
Thank you very much.

Re: Greek Brides??
I dont think they come with the stefan - i cant recall exactly though when we bought my cousins a few years ago - i think the woman gave it to us as part of the lambades.I'm sure they dont require you to buy it from them - you do have to have koufeta with it and the two smaller candles for the bride and groom.
I think the tray is about 10x13 or so - but i am not exactly certain.
Deby i think went to Portara - they also have a website though - here

Re: Greek Brides??
You're welcome Georgia
No Peter does not think you're a psycho bride
Check your FM.
ETA: Georgia, has your mom seen you in a strapless dress? Most of the time you end up with a dress you would never imagine on yourself. Originally I wanted a VERY SIMPLE dress with barely any beading and I ended up with the opposite
So she may just not like strapless dresses on the models, but may LOVE one on you.

You have FM!No - my mom hasnt seen me - i'd rather find the dress on my own before going with my mom because her opinion means a lot to me - and i'd rather my dress be my decision and not hers - if she gives me a look when i havent set my mind on somethign - then i wont consider it seriously...

Yeah I know what you mean. Although I did find a dress that I fell in love with that happened to me with my grandma. Thankfully, my mom and I had similar tastes when it came to wedding gowns.
I sent you another FM.

Re: Greek Brides??
Hi everyone!
Brideshelper, introduce yourself!
I have been to Portara... check out their web site that Georgia posted. I think she has good prices on a lot of things... but just like any store, not everything is cheap. I thought the stefana were priced well, but if anyone thinks otherwise, please let me know, cause I have recommended the place to my koubara.
FYI- she also rents out the chair, wishing well, and umbrella for showers - and I think they are pre-decorated.
I dont think the stefana come with the tray. But if you buy everything from one place (lambades, stefana, koufeta, etc.) I am sure you'll get a better price. Or check out what trays they have and if they are too expensive, go find a similar one from a department store.

YAY Congrats Debbie!!! I'm trying to lose weight too before my first fitting
How did the invites come out?? That's so great that you're doing the calligraphy! I wish I could but I'm awful at that stuff
Did you learn it from someone or are you just good at that stuff?

Re: Greek Brides??
Thanks Marcella!!!!!My invites look awesome! I love them!!!!!!
I am sooo not artistic... but I found a calligraphy instructional book on clearance at Borders a few months ago, and I have been hooked ever since. It's not as hard as it looks. And I dont expect perfection
cause I know I cannot achieve that!I'll try to take a photo of my invite and post it.
Marcella, you sooo dont need to lose weight! Are you dieting, gym? I started pilates again... today
But it works pretty quickly, so hopefully I will be in a little bikini in Aruba in three months!

Re: Greek Brides??
Thanks Deby. I will be MOH at my friend's wedding in July. Neither she nor I are Greek, but my boyfriend is Greek, and will be the Koumbaro for his friend. We are slowly learning the traditions, and a bit of the language, LOL!Someone told us the tray comes in a set with the stefana, that's why I asked. She saw a tray she likes and wants to register for her own.
Thanks.

I'm so happy about your invites! Can't wait to see a pic.
Maybe I should go buy a calligraphy book?? I'm so afraid that the addresses will come out all crooked though
I am sooo bad at this stuff. Meanwhile my mom is a great artist.
YES Debbie I need to lose weight.
I want to lose at least 5lbs. I am currently on Weight Watchers but am not working out
By the time I get home I'm exhausted to go to a gym. But I do have the Pilates tapes at home, so I'm going to start them next week.

Re: Greek Brides??
Welcome Mary! I would check out Portara... I thought they had a couple of nice stefana.Marcella, I know, I remember when I was working, the last thing I wanted to do was come home and excercise!
That's why I didnt... and I gained ten pounds
The book I bought was one of those calligraphy workibooks. It came with a pen and paper and workbook. It was pretty good. Then I also downloaded some letter samples off the web- see, this is the pain in the butt. I had been practicing the italic letters for a wgile, and I finally got them to look really good. Then I saw some script-like letters that were really nice too... except I have not practiced them... so now i am practicing the script ones. And they are hard! If I cant get them right, I'll just so the italic ones.
