Re: Greek Brides??

Debbie!!! I am so happy your day went so wonderfully! Just reading it I could tell how happy and excited you were! That is awesome!

I love your Godson!! He is TOO TOO CUTE! I love the outfit - that is what you got for his baptism right? Very adroable! Oh, I went with my mom to that jeweler - we foudn one that we really like but it is a little pricey - we didnt try to bargain with them because we were just looking - $530 just for the cross -i'm sure they'll go down a bit -their prices were better than thessaloniki jewelers in ditmars though..beautiful selection - I'm going to have my grandma come to - my mom said 'to mati tis kovi' (her eye cuts in direct translation) - I think that means she can see good quality just by seeing something - i dunno - its a yiayia thing! *lol*

Good luck on your interviews!! Dont worry about them - You are going to do great! What i realized was the less i freaked out - the more natural i was on the interviews.

Oh, Where did you look for Coops?? FH and I are looking - but nothing yet - we dont like the clearview ones at all - i like the bay terrace ones but none are available now

I want a home ... I want to have htings set up before i have to take the bar - it'll be too stressful if i have to deal with that and study for the bar

Re: Greek Brides??

Thanks ladies! I hope you all have great showers too!

Yes, that is his baptismal outfit, although the pic was not taken at the baptism... the baptism was taken in november, but he did his portraits last week. I am gld you checked out that jeweler... i thought he had nice stuff, and was cheaper than the other local guys. Take giagia... she definitely will know

I did not like the Clearview apartments either. I saw about 4 of them - both 2 and 3 bedrooms, and although they are not bad, definitely not what I was looking for. We saw a couple in Little Neck (Deepdale Gardens) and are going to make an offer on one of them shortly!!!! Hopefully, everything will work out. The layout is really nice... lots of potential, and big rooms.

Bay Terrace is impossible to get into. I am not sure whether or not you want a garden apartment or one in a building, but the garden ones are hard to come by!!!! The real estate agent was telling me the same thing today.

Did you check out any of the baydale apartments? I have not been to any.

Re: Greek Brides??

Its great that you are making the offer!! A friend of ours has a coop in teh Bayterrace area and they are so nice...so i'm hoping something is going to open up...

Their is a woman that we contacted with through him - i dunno - i htink she is a broker for there - i dont even know if they have a management office open to the public...She only has one bedrooms available now though....so that kinda sucks - and the three bedroom that she said she just sold went for $285K - We really want a two bedroom - we both are goign to be bringing work home so we need to have an 'office' space....

Are the deepdale apartments garden apartments - I would really rather get a garden apartment - it looks more homey - i dunno just my opinion - Where are the baydale apartments?

I want FH to take a day off so we can go look with the real estate agent - its hard though cause he is so busy

Re: Greek Brides??

Georgia, both the Deepdale and Baydale apartments are garden apartments (they may have buildings too, but not the ones Ive seen). I really liked the one we found... much bigger than the Clearview ones... with a dining room - and I mean a full dining room, not the ones some places try to pass off as dining rooms - enough room for a long table, display case, etc. And the second bedroom is larger than most i have seen.

Baydale are in bayside... I am not sure on their exact location, but I always drive by them when I drive my friend home. They are somewhere between franny lou and northern flushing.

One thing that you should look into (but you probably know about this already) is the flip-tax. Most co-ops charge a flip-tax meaning that when you sell your co-op in the future, the co-op is entitled to a certain percentage of your profit. You should ask about this when you see places.

Re: Greek Brides??

There were a couple of people with digital cams, but nobody has passed along the pics.

And the rest of the pics... still dont have a scanner

I'll try to scan some at FH's house this weekend.

By the way... piece of advice, once you get your gifts, make sure you look thru them carefully! I got a few things that were scratched or banged up. And my knife set, which were quite pricey... that big fork was missing!

edited for spelling.

Re: Greek Brides??

Well call them up and tell them to email you pics and scan away this weekend.

Thanks for the tip. I would have never thought about that. That's awful What happened when you went to the stores you registered at to tell them what happened? Did they give you trouble?

Re: Greek Brides??

Will do!

I havent tried to return the items yet... but I doubt that they'll give me a problem. If they do, I will take back all my gifts I really would do that! But when my Sis-in-law took her things back, they gave her absolutely no problems.

Re: Greek Brides??

Deby, I just wanted to let you know I went to Portara Gallery on Bell Blvd. with my daughter and we were very impressed with her selection and prices. It is a very small shop next to Laterna, but Eleni is a lovely person and not at all pushy. We got the stefana, and we ordered a very beautiful stefanothiki along with other things. Anyone who still needs their stefana, lambathes, etc., it's definitely worth a stop in.

Re: Greek Brides??

I came upon the Portara website while searching online for Christening items. I am an extremely busy working professional and mother of 2 children who had limited time to go into New York City to coordinate Christening items. At the same time, however, I wanted to make my Godchild's Christening day extra special. The www.portara.com website is so easily navigatible, the quality and selection of the products are absolutely beautiful... The prices are extremely reasonable, and the service is top-notch. You can't go wrong with Portara.com, if you have just come upon this website - look no further -- take it from one who really scrutinizes everything -- you have found the best!!!
