I can't believe I just read all 18 pages and found 2 reviews on Lombardi's on the Sound. so sad. Now I am worried.

Awww.. don't worry! Some people don't pick Lombardi's on the Sound b/c they feel it is a little hard for guests to find off the main road. It is a hidden jewel!

I have never heard a bad thing about it!

that and the ONLY reason it was not my choice was b/c it can only comfortably accomodate 150-175 guests and my wedding-- WAY more than that!!! plus, don't forget it was only renovated and bought by the lombardi's family not too long ago (summer of 04 i believe) so that's not that long ago... but from what i hear and what i have experienced going to showcases there (esp the food) you have NOTHING to worry about!! beautiful place!!!!

I went to a wedding at the Thatched Cottage in June of 05. In the up stairs room. It was very nice. The food was ok, not the greatest. Over all it was good. FH just did not like that the Valet drivers crashed his car! Also, before we found out his car was crashed we saw two of the valet drivers outside snorting what seemed to be coke! Nice huh?

My only complaint was that they only had passed hor dorves (sorry, can't spell that word for the life of me) at the cocktail hour (which was outside) so only the people standing by the door got served.

I don't think that will happen with a sit-down dinner -- did you see their CH menu??

well you can't even compare b/c it's completely different owners at this point-- maybe before they only had a passed app CH option or maybe that Bride and Groom picked to have that--- now that lombardi's owns it they have so much food it's almost a sin lol glutiny haha

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Okay lets see.....

September 2001, a wedding at Douglaston Manor. The food was great, the place was nice (this was before renevoations) and the staff was really good to all of the guests. However, the bride and groom were missing envelopes and one the maid of honors camera went missing.

June 2003, wedding at East Wind. Food was outstanding, I have never seen a vienesse hour like that in my life to this day. Service was excellent, offered seconds to all of us. The only problem was that they did not set up enough chairs or place settings at each table myself and four other guests had tables assigned but no place settings us for us. It was a bit chaotic.

July 2003, wedding at Crest Hollow. Missed the cocktail hour but the food at the reception was good, they were serving beer out of 40 ounces which shocked me a bit.

October 2003, Nautical Cruise out of Freeport. Food was outstanding, the bartenders were not that great. Really gave you a hard time for drinks and it was a bit snug on the boat as far as accomodating all of the guests, also the set up was a pain in the neck. Dancing was on the 3rd floor, main course on the first floor and cocktail hour on the 2nd, so it was a bit hectic. We all missed a lot of the major moments of the wedding because we were all spread out.

July 2004, Hamlet Windwatch in Hauppague. Place was beautiful not a large selection for cocktail hour and it was a bit crowded, they used half of the ballroom for cocktail hour. Food was good though.

February 2005, Crest Hollow Country Club again. The cocktail hour was phenemonal. I loved it. The food was okay, a lot going on at once that night. They also did not direct the guests where to go at the beginning so we were walking around aimlessly after we got there for 20 minutes. They also served beer out of 40's which I was not a fan of.

August 2005, Hamlet Windwatch in Hauppague again. Once again not a lot of food during cocktail hour. Food at reception was really good! Service was excellent. I really liked this place!

November 2005, Coral house see my wedding review. LOVED LOVED LOVED it!

March 2006, The Lido Beach Sands. Cocktail hour was great, lots of food to choose from and it was all excellent. Enjoyed appeitizer but thats where it ended. Not crazy about main course. Bridal suite was very small.

Also have been to Bridgeview Yacht Club for a bar mitzvah and my father's retirement party, loved the food and everyone seemed to be very accomodating.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

I havent been to that many weddings in the LI area
but i have been to a wedding at the
MARINA DEL REY-where i am getting married :)
The food is awesome, they give soo much food to choose from for the cocktail hour, and the food at the reception is also yummy (they give you 5 choices of dinner with the basic package and i think 7 choices with the expanded), the view is amazing (its right on the water) so you will have great pictures. The rooms are big, and since they just renovated its light and airy. I am soo excited, i can't wait! We went to a wedding there like 2 months after starting dating and i never imagined i would be getting married there 3 years later!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

August 2005....Woodbury Country Club
It was a scorching hot day so much to the bride's dismay, the entire event was indoors....Everything was great....the food, the DJ, the staff was VERY professional...some kind of young and looked a little stand-offish when you'd pass them in a hall or something.....BUT they were never actually rude or anything.....everyone was well marked in their service 'tuxes' and even the valets were super sweet. There were stairs involoved in moving from ceremony, CH and reception....which was a bit hard for the elderly and i can't say for sure if there is an elevator, but it was a great time...the view from the room was great....a little plain, but pretty.

March 2006.....North Ritz Club
Cold but beautiful day. Everything was great except how the staff treated us when the CH was over...they rudely demanded we leave the room. Other than that, I personally loved it. Also, the maitre'd was semi-creepily walking around the wedding...he was in a regular, everyday suit and looked like he was a guest...but staring at everyone...at first i thought he was a drunk guest until he started folding napkins....

BOTH weddings were lots of fun and beautiful.......my only complaint abour NRC was the staff needs some improvement on their behavior/dress...so that guests can easily distinguish them from guests.

Also....Chateau Le Mer
attended an engaement party Oct 2005
it was a cold day and they seemed to have the A/C blasting....i froze the entire time....the food was ok...i've had better, i know it's a catering hall and all, but i wasn't impressed by the food much....the best part was watching this bride get off of a boat to go in to get married, really neat!! (and we had no affiliation with that event...we were at an engagement party...but when it happened, most of the guests were by the window watching that!)

It should be different with a sit down dinner anyway, I think they moved some of the cocktail hour stuff to the dinner buffet! You'll be fine! The place is beautiful and the food was good then, and Lombardi's has a great reputation!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Chateau La Mer (2006)

I wasn't going to post this because I didn't want to upset girls who were getting married here, but I would want to know before hand - and that's what this thread is for, right? I know a lot of girls are getting married there, and if I were them, I would make sure these things were taken care of beforehand:

Windows were so dirty! I was shocked! That was the first thing I noticed (especially the dome in the room we were in... FILTHY!). maybe it's not as obvious at night, but we were there with the sun shining through, and the windows were streaked with WHITE, they were so dirty! The light fixtures were dirty in the reception room. The rugs around the dance floor were dirty. The dance floor itself was MAJORLY scratched up (think it's time for a new one). The bathroom stall I used had a broken latch... I notice stuff like that. It's so simple to fix, and it's the little details that guests remember.

I would suggest girls who are getting married there ask them to address a few of these.

Other than that... the food was GREAT! The waitstaff was VERY nice and VERY accomodating. The Vienniese Hour was AMAZING (although I wasn't crazy about the fact that it was in another room)... but the smell of popcorn was amazing, the cotton candy machine was an impressive addition, LOVED the chocolate fountain and the chocolate buffet... lots of options! Although... if you have the chocolate fountain, make sure you ask that someone is with it the whole time. After awhile, the chocolate was just coming out in clumps. Chocolate fountains don't look too impressive with clumps. lol)

The Riviera (2004)

My MOH got married there in Sept. 2004... what a GREAT place! The room was perfect! I LOVE that water view! I thought it was cool that she was able to throw her bo-k from the balcony. The staff was VERY nice! And the food was EXCELLENT (especially the chocolate fountain). I'm booked at the Crescent Beach Club because it's my DREAM place, but if I didn't have my wedding there, I would have picked the Riviera.

Carltun on the Sound (2003)

Nice room, but wasn't crazy about the view of the parking lot. You look out the window and see parking lot... then beach. The food was VERY good, and the room was pretty - nice and bright in the daytime.

And the only wedding I went to last year was in Jersey. I don't remember the place, but it was nice.

What a great idea for a thread! I'm going to go look for The Crescent to make sure there isn't anything I can ask them to change before our wedding. I saw someone did a review of it before the renovations... let me tell you... the way it looks now is GOREOUS and IMPRESSIVE!! I can't WAIT!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Villa Lombardis-May 2004 (evening)
CH was awesome. The food was great and service was superb The reception was a lot of fun. Everything was clean, the bathrooms, the lobby and we didn't run into the other party at all. The food was great too. They gave way too much though.

Westbury Manor-July 2004 (early afternoon)
I had a problem with the CH. When we got there we had to wait for another wedding party to come in from outside and we were getting pushed and shoved out of the way. It was a beautiful day and once we were outside it was very nice. The reception was great. Lots of people, but still plenty of room for seating and dancing. Service was good too.

Westbury Manor-April 2004 (evening)
The CH was inside this time and we were kind of squished. There was very little seating so a lot of people were forced to stand. The reception was great, same as above.

Vanderbilt Mansion-June 2005 (evening)
It was weird to go to a wedding here because I went to graduate school at Dowling but it was a gorgeous wedding. I was a bridesmaid so I got to enjoy the awesome bridal suite, which is actually an old library. They had a ton of food and drinks for us when we got there. The cocktail hour was great. We had plenty of room to move around because people were in the CH room, in the lobby and outside on the patio. The reception was great. My only complaint is the shape of the room. It is a T-shape and it is hard to see what is going on on the dance floor if you are sitting in the top of the T. my friends dj did have 3 plasma tv screens set up so the montage and zap shots were seen by all. The food was absolutely amazing. Very unique choices with lobster and other food that I wouldn't typically see at a wedding.

Watermill-August 2005 (evening)
Everything was great. The CH was outside and there was a ton of food and drinks available. We had the room downstairs which was huge. We had our own bathroom but unfortunately 1/2 way through the night, there was a plumbing problem and we had to use the bathroom upstairs and share it with the other parties. The service was great and the food was good too.

Stuart Thomas Manor-May 2005 (evening)
It was a nice wedding. They had us waiting out in the lobby for a long time before the CH began which was kind of cramped. Also, they had another party next door and it must have been a sweet 16 because there were young kids running around everywhere. I wouldn't blame that on the facility though. The only thing I found really annoying was the dj for the other party had the music up so loud that we could hear it when there was a slow song playing or when the best man was doing his speech. The food wasn't the best but I have had worse. They only had one bartender and it was a pain to get a drink. We would go up there and try to get 2 drinks at the same time so we didn't have to wait on line again.

I have quite a few weddings coming up in the next few months, including my own (Mediterranean manor, crescent beach club, Jericho terrace, Timber Point Country Club, and East Wind) so I will write about them as they happen.

Watermill
Just went there a few weeks ago. Overall it was a very nice place. We had the CH and reception upstairs so I never saw the room downstairs. The CH food was good but they didn't replenish so once things were gone, they were gone.
The reception room was nice. The waiters were terrific! One waiter noticed I wasn't drinking my martini and came over to me to ask what was wrong. I told him the apple martini wasn't an apple martini (the bartender didn't know how to make it) and he ran to the bar to get me something else to drink -- very, very nice! The waiter continued to take amazing care of us all night!
One thing I didn't like was the maitre'd - he was in everyone's face all the time. Personally, I think they are supposed to work behind the scenes and not be telling guests what to do! I was getting really annoyed! HE was telling me where to stand to take my pictures, giving us instructions at the chocolate fountain...seriously, too much.
But overall - the place is beautiful, the food was good and the service was good!

Has anyone ever gone to a wedding at the Woodbury Country Club? I loved it when we first booked it, but this weekend one of my co-workers attended a wedding there and was a little disappointed with the service and setup. I'm freaking out here!!!!!

yes sarah, i noticed that also and i think you did the right thing by mentioning it b/c those are things that can def be fixed so any bride should appreciate those tips. i completely forgot about that when i put it in my review, although i do recall many parts of the ceiling being 'dirty' and looked like they needed to be replaced.
they did tell us that they are in the process of big-time renovations so that's a good thing but 'clean' issues should be a quick-fix with a little bit of effort from the staff, i'm sure once someone mentions it they'll be right on it... and you are right, the food was great and so was the service (the important things are right on) so if that's the biggest problem then the brides should be OK once they bring it to CLM's attention! nice review sarah!

Thank you, Danielle! . I wasn't going to say anything, but those things are SO fixable, and if I got to my place on my wedding day and saw all that, I would NOT be happy. Better to know in advance and let them know you would like them fixed. The view is absolutely gorgeous, which is the draw, but they should clean the windows! lol

BTW... got my tax refund. Wahoo! Thanks again for recommending Chris!

I went to the Jericho Terrace in Feb. The place was beautiful! Overall everything was good, however it was a little confusing when we first walked in. We had to ask several people before we were told were the wedding we were attending was located, and with the switching of the rooms, it was very hectic- I saw two other brides taking pictures and felt like I was in the way. However, the food was really good and the actual main course was outstanding! I think the first impression could be changed if brides made a sign, or designated a friend to stay out front to direct guests to the correct room.

I'm reading everybody's different opinions and feel I am definitely a different wedding attendee than most. While I can see where all of you are coming from, I definitely judge weddings on how the crowd is. I think an empty dance floor is MUCH worse than so-so food. IMO- If you have time to really scrutinize the dessert and dinner, you're probably not having that great of a time. AGAIN- JUST MY OPINION!!!!

P.S. I've been to almost all of your wedding sites, and have always had a GREAT time. After all...What's better than a wedding?

I agree with you 100%. Well put! What determines my good time at a wedding is if I was on the dance floor all night or in my seat. I can have a great time anywhere, as long as the music is great and the drinks keep coming!

Abigail Kirsh, Tappan Hill, Tarrytown

The entrance is beautiful - there's a large stair case as you enter. Holds two events - one room fits up to 110 with dancing, the other fits up to 250 with dancing. We were in the smaller room; the dance floor isn't really big but the room itself it nice. Cocktail hour room is gorgeous - the view of the Hudson is beautiful and there is an outdoor area as well.

Staff is very, very attentive - I have food intolerances and our waiter made the staff on our side of the room aware of that. Dinner was awesome; dessert smelled amazing but I couldn't have it and they gave me a great alternative.
