Are you an organ doner?

Why/why not?

i am---heck if i'm dead--what do i need organs for?



i know some ppl say they don't want to be a donor on their license or anything cause they think that docs will let you die to use your organs---but i don't think this is true.

Waste not, want not. If my organs can be used to save another person's life, than I'm all about it.

No, because I plan to donate my body after I'm dead and I believe it needs to be intact.

Me too!! I want to be one in the worst way because I agree, I don't need them and if they can save a life then I think that is great... I'm just scared they'd pull the plug on me without giving me a fair chance.

It's unethical to let a patient die if they can be saved just to save another life. Doesn't that go against the Hippocratic Oath that they took before becoming doctors?

Me too!! I want to be one in the worst way because I agree, I don't need them and if they can save a life then I think that is great... I'm just scared they'd pull the plug on me without giving me a fair chance.

Well if you are scared about this then you don't have to put down that you are an organ donor but let your loved ones know that this is your wish after you die, this way they can make that decision for you and let the doctors know

Exactly. (we were thinking the same thing)

But yeah, that would be not only a huge malpractice suit but they could be stripped of their license to practice medicine.

Yes. And please specify that you want to donate your eyes.That's not included when you simply say you're an organ donor. I only say this as my grandfather donated his eyes and years later we received a letter from a man who was legally blind until age 21....he now has 20/20 vision. He wrote a beautiful letter about seeing the world through my grandfather's eyes. So touching.....

wow---that's amazing!

I will not sign my license because of the stoires/urban legends -- but my FH and Family all know that if it ever came (god forbid) to making a decision like that -- let them take what they need. I am not going to need them anymore so let someone else have them!

MOST would stand by it, but unfortunately there are unethical people out there...Thats why alot of money is offered on the black market for organs, in order for this to even go on i think some doctors are involved. BUt the thread is about being an organ donor so enough of my conspiracy theories

I am not.

I was told once by a friend who is an EMT (and other people as well)
That if you are in a horrible accident and you are an organ donor they will not try as hard to resucitate (sp?) you, since they can save more lives with your organs then just yours.
This might be an urban legend but it freaked me out and I decided not to check the little box.
