After he proposed, my fi gave me the GIA certificate so we could get it insured.

He told me (I think he was pretty proud of himself)and he showed me all the paperwork when we got home....(he proposed in Italy) b/c he wanted me to have a copy of the insurance papers etc....

He showed my the GIA report. But he will not let me know the value and I am forbidden to look at our home owners insurance bill

Chmlengr you are not alone! I dont know either. My FH insured it before he proposed to me and I only know how many karats it is.
If he insured it at the place he got it (I am not sure if he did) should I be getting it appraised or do anything else? I have no idea!

I don't have a clue. I know the size, but don't know the quality etc.... I haven't asked and he hasn't said anything. I know he thinks that shouldn't be important, and to me, I'm just happy he did all the leg work and got me the ring I wanted

(I know it's a really good stone, that's about it)

He told me but tell you the truth I don't really remember much. I should ask again. I just know it is square, very good quality and the approximate weight or the center stone and baguettes. I love me ring and all the details aren't gonna make me love it more or less.

I know the jeweler that we worked with so I knew everything. Except when he was going to pick it up and propose.

I am with chmlengr, I have no idea about my ring either. It is a family heirloom along with my wedding band. It belonged to my DH great Aunt. I am soon going to get it appraised.

A week after I got engaged, my fi and I were talking and he said you know what, I was just thinking about it and you never asked how big the ring is? Don't you want to know?
So, I said ok - and I told him the reason I didn't ask was because I really didn't care. I was just happy that he asked me lol

I picked it out, picked the setting and the sneaky SOB went back 2 days later to pay for it and then held onto it for 6 months. I was totally convinced that someone else had bought my diamond and that's why he hadn't proposed yet. I also saw the papers.
