How long after you got engaged did you book your reception site?

I got engaged on May 11th and, while I have been doing a lot of research, I dont plan to book for another month or two....is that bad? I'm planning to get married in September or October of 2006.

I think I maybe the only one so far.. We booked our place before we were 'officially' engaged. We booked in May and he officially proposed in Dec. FI and I have been together for 5 years so we knew it was coming and really wanted to make sure we got the place that we both loved..

3-4 weeks! I got engaged on August 23 and was looking to get married the next summer so I knew I had to work fast - some places I called were already booked for the entire summer (and I was flexible with date)
I even had one snotty BM say to me on the phone - 'why did you wait so long' and I said -'because I got engaged three days ago'

about 2 or 3 weeks. We had a very specific situation though. We got engaged in late Sept 03 when I was living in NY, Dh was living in London, we didn't want to be apart any longer than we had to, we had one Saturday in February that worked for us. I only had five months and one day to plan, so I need to do it quickly and I had done research before we got engaged.

We booked it two months after we were engaged for a date that was 2 and a half years away.

About 2 weeks
We were engaged right before the holidays in Dec '03... (Dec 20). We knew we didn't want a long engagement and summertime worked out well for us, so by the first weekend in January 04 we went looking at halls and booked ours on the spot .. for our July 04 wedding
We totally lucked out that we were able to book so quickly

we were engaged 10/18/03 and booked the hall 12/20/03. We only really went looking on weekends.

I booked my site, Caffe on the Green, about 2 weeks after I got engaged.
We saw 3 places. This was the first place and we immediately fell in love with it. We just went to see the others so that we were sure. I think the main thing to look at is the number of people and how big the site is. We are having around 100 people, so we did not want a site that holds 300 because we would get lost. And, of course, the food and the price. If it all goes together and you love how the place looks, you will know you found the right site!
