everyone says to lie about when your real wedding date is so that you make sure your dress is in on time.
my question is, how far in advance should i say my wedding really is??

i agree - you don't want to lie too much - cause then your final fitting will be too too early!

Re: how much should i lie??
Is it BAD that I did not lie?!?!? I ordered my dress in mid-May for my June '06 wedding? I told them the real date and the salesgirl told me they tell the manufacturer a date 1 month earlier.

I told the truth and my gown only arrived 5 WEEKS before the wedding. And, I had to fast because it was too small.

Now what??? I was initially told it would take 6 months to come in. We did recently change our date from 6/29 to 6/25 so I can call and have them change it on the contract. Should I ask them how soon the dress will be in?!?!? I am worried now!!
P.S. Sorry!! I did not mean to hijack your post!!

Thanks Marie. I am sure it'll be okay, I just worry, what if it comes in wrong and has to be re-ordered?!?!

Re: how much should i lie??
Maybe a week or two bc you don't want to have the fitting too early. I didn't lie and when I went to the bridal shop one day they had to look me up and asked for my wedding date. I had to think about it for a second and they immediately assumed that I had made it up-I was kinda offended.

I would not give my hard earned money to a store that I did not think was capable of placing and receiving an order on time. They order dresses all of the time, and I had no problems trusting that my dresses would be in on time. JMO.

Re: how much should i lie??
I told the saleslady my true date but then when she wrote up the order, she put a VERY early date!!! So, the manufacturer is not seeing my real date!

Hey Carol..
I told them my actual date (never thought to lie about it, lol) and got my dress exactly as promised with months to spare. Most places are pretty good about it, I wouldn't worry too much :)

Re: how much should i lie??
I would say a month. I didn't lie and regretted it, esp. for the bridesmaid dresses. We ordered them 9 months early and they came in three weeks before the wedding! Mine ordered 10 months early and came in 3 months before the wedding. I guess I also wanted my dress fitted early to get in to NY earlier (live in VA).

I gave exactly four weeks. I'd rather be early than late.

I agree. That's what I did.
I order mine from Bridal Reflections in April03 and they told me about 8 months....and that would have been December03, but it actually came in October03 (2 months earlier). I told them I was getting married in April 04, because I was worried about if there was any problems but I really was getting married on May 15, 2004 4 weeks later.
Don't worry about having the fittings done early - so it hangs in your house for a few weeks, instead of the bridal salon.

Re: how much should i lie??
I didn't lie--I gave my salon the true date, and because I was ordering a fairly significant change to my dress (adding off the shoulder straps to a strapless dress), SHE told the Paula Varsalona people a different date (I think she said it was an April or May wedding). They received the dress in February, so it would have been perfect timing for a wedding in either of those months!

I didn't lie, I gave them my real date too! I ordered my dress at the beginning of this month for my May 06 wedding. The sales girl assured me it would be come in within 6 or 7 months, and really that's giving me a 4-5 month cushion of time. Don't worry about it, we should be fine!!
