I am going to scream

I am going to scream

So let me give you a baby backstory

FH's BM has a 2 month old. He will be 4 months at the wedding. We spoke with the BM in February (he is FH's brother) and he said no worries, the baby is staying with his MIL in MD.

They have since RSVPd with the baby to everything (the RD, reception, etc).

I am pissed beyond belief. Not only did we say no children, they told us they weren't bringing the baby....and I HATE children.

so here is a clip of an email to FH today from him...this was after FH and I came up with a few solutions to the issue.

'I'm considering not even coming to the wedding with these
types of restrictions for my son. This is ridiculous. So now not
only is he not welcome in the church, but he is not welcome at the
reception either?!?! This is getting out of hand. I am not leaving
___ with ____ or anyone in MD/VA, This is MY family as well as
YOUR family. If that's not going to work, you can throw away our
RSVP. This is really starting to piss me off.'

'My reslolution is that you tell Ali that this is your family and ____
is part of your family. If you want ___other son___ and I to be a part of your
day, then you need to get this through your head. I am not dumping my
son off, my flesh and blood, for Ali to be happy. If you cannot
handle this, then you can find another best man and ring bearer. Its
that simple. Dad has even offered to sit in the crying room with
___. All in all, ____ is coming or we are not. Now you can relay
that to Ali.

Your ONLY brother,'

Now, FH and I agree that we did not want the baby. I am ready to punch FBIL in the face.

This is a FOUR MONTH OLD.

And they keep pretending that they are responsible parents....their older son is obese because they do not feed him properly, and he was actually taken away from their home a few years ago by Child Protective Services.

Honestly, I want to say fine. Just stay home.

I'm just really upset beyond belief

I am so sorry.

UGH. That's annoying..

ONe thing that stands out to me is the brother's language about you. Has your FH been presenting a united front, or is he saying things like 'I really want the baby, but Ali doesn't want him' etc.

Hate kids? wow!!! That's a strong reaction.

I think the brother really could go with the flow more, honestly, but weddings really are stressful times and you have to negotiate a lot of relationships. Would a 4 month old really interfere much?

A. FH has been portraying a united front. The email that this was a reaction to was definitely united.

B. The baby is a CRIER.

C. I really don't like children....like at all.

wowwwwwwwwww

That is seriously horrible. I am so sorry you have to deal with this. I feel like everyone is having issues with children right now. IMO, they do not belong at the wedding. I think it is pretty selfish of your FBIL to send a note like that. I can't understand why your own family wouldn't be respectful of YOUR wishes on YOUR wedding day!

I personally think as the bride and groom, the decision to have children or not have children at your wedding is yours to make, and if your FBIL doesn't like it, he should just stay home!

omg I so sorry that this is what you are going through I don't even know what to say

But before the email? Ugh. That tone really pisses me off, like how he's blaming you.

What does the rest of the family say. Maybe FMIL can offer to pay for a babysitter on site? My hall has a room for kids with a babysitter, or I'm sure you can do it at the hotel. You probably suggested something similar already, but maybe if a 3rd party suggests it, it will sound better

I would tell them to stay home. It's your decision!!!

Seriously?!?! A four month old has NO place at a wedding!! Not at all!!!!!!!!!!!! If they don't want to leave him at home and want to stay home - to hell with them Ali!!!
I know that's semi-redic to say, but seriously?! You have enough stress with that side of the family - and the last thin you need is a baby screaming and crying through your vows and your first dance and dinner, etc. No way. You need to talk to FBIL again and explain how you BOTH feel, and then leave it up to them. You have to do you lady!!

OMG Ali, seriously, I can't believe the drama your FHs family is causing! Its not like you asked them to never ever bring the baby around you again, you simply asked them not to bring a screaming 4 month old to a formal affair. I don't think thats an unreasonable request at all. Honestly, thats not fair of FH's brother to do that either, to make it a decision between him and you. What a d-bag maneuver. I hope for your sake they end up not coming and then at least you won't have to deal with their bullsh!t!!!!

Crashing!

It's a messy situation, but maybe the baby is breastfeeding and they cant/wont use formula yet? Just thinking I may wind up in a similar predicament come next summer, when one of FH's GM's wife will have 10 month old. I'm pretty sure she is going to BF for years, bc that's the type of person she is. (not passing judgement here!)

So sorry this is making you upset. The only thing you can do is let them come and ignore that they are there. Unless you truly dont mind starting a family war, bc telling them to all stay home would cause that in my family.

Re: I am going to scream

I'm sorry, I thought about this more... a 4 month old...REALLY?!

I didn't invite any children under 2. My family totally understood they said 'God no, we don't want to bring him'

Most of them are happy for the opportunity to get away and hang out with adults. ALL the kid is going to do is at BEST sleep, which is rough with loud music, lights, etc, and at WORST be miserable and scream the whole time.

It really doesn't matter if you like kids or not. I LOVE kids, My FSIL will have a 2 month old at that time. She does NOT belong at the wedding,. Seriously, what are people thinking? Maybe you can get another family member to talk some sense into it, or come at from an angle that's not so much that yu guys don't WANT kids there, but that it's just not even an appropriate setting for an infant.

Re: I am going to scream

ugh that's terrible! A 4 month old definitely won't enjoy the wedding, he won't care whether he is there or not lol. I think FH needs to respond strongly to this:

'You bringing the baby will make ME HAPPY as I don't want the memories of me marrying my best friend fillied with sounds of cries and sobs from a baby who'd rather be in his crib sleeping than at a loud wedding reception.

If you can not RESPECT my wishes for the wedding that I am paying for and that you with honor accepted to be Best Man at, then you can consider your invite and your best man status gone. I do not need to make you nor anyone else happy as this is my wedding. If you have an issue with this, then it's your loss to not be a part of my special and very important day.'

sorry you have to deal with this! Family can be so selfish when it comes to weddings!!!!

Re: I am going to scream

I'm sorry your going through this I love children, and can't wait to have them, but I agree that a wedding is not a place for babies since it is an elegant affair. How is the 4 month old baby going to stay out all night anyway? It's going to be very loud and a late night. If I had a baby I wouldn't think it was an appropriate place for it and wouldn't want to bring it bc I would feel more comfortable w/ it being at home in a quiet, safe environment. Idk this just boggles my mind
