Once this happened to me, I knew that I had to come on here and talk to you girls...
a little background..
FH lived with this really nice guy his senior year in college - they had been friends their entire 4 years because of being on the football team together- I met him my junior year and his girlfriend, who is now his FW. We all hung out together our senior year- like a lot. She and I actually drove through a blizzard together to see them play in their last playoff game. Anyway, what I'm trying to say, is that all 4 of us are extremely good friends.
Well, we got their wedding invitation today and it said 'Mr. Matthew XXXX and GUEST' and GUEST???? I could not believe it. And guest?? Like who else do they think he is going to bring? And aren't we all friends? I am beyond upset and seriously hurt by this. Am I nuts for feeling this way???? I just cannot believe this. It's not like they don't know me or my name or anything like that, which is why I'm sick over it. I just feel really hurt.

Some ppl just dont take the time to write guests names or i guess prefer generic so they dont have to worry if anything will change (not saying theyre worried about you and fh not being together specifically, but i dunno...trying to think of ANY reason). Sorry Some ppl just dont know etiquette or how rude that can be!

That sux, but maybe they weren't sure how to spell your last name or something and figured it was just easier to put guest! I wouldn't let yourself get upset over it!

I am sure I messed up with some people as well, but honestly I was so happy I got the addresses at that point I just wanted to send them. It would have taken me forever to get everyones significant others last name.... It is still rude, but I know I did it and not to be mean just because I wanted to get them out...
I did for some ppl as well if i didnt know if theyre seriously dating or something. i have like 3 16-18 yr old cousins who date diff ppl all the time, too worried to put one name. i dont know enuf about whats going on in their life.

When we made out our invites we found out the names for our guests sig others. Even if we had never met them

Tricia, I would be upset too however there might be a reason for it such as one liw gal said about maybe that did not address them. So I would probably ask them (nicely) why put and 'guest' I think if you don't you will just get more upset with it and it will never be solved. I think that you should bring it up to them in a non-threatening manner. What is the worst they could say? The damage has already done. Keep your head up.

Re: I cannot believe this- I am so upset
thanks again girls...
What makes this hurt even more is that I know their families too and they definitely know how to spell my last name. And honestly, at this point, I would have preferred them to spell it incorrectly then not attempt at all. And if someone else were writing out your invitations wouldn't you give them the correct information???
Like most of you girls, I have also tried very hard to get the names and addresses of SOs that I don't have. I just think it's rude to put 'and guest' to someone you have been friends with for so long and someone who is in your wedding party. I am just flat out insulted!
thanks again

Aww, I see why you'd be upset, but don't let it get to you. Some people just don't really think etiquette is that impt, and maybe for whatever reason they just invited everyone with a 'Guest' unless they were married and could write 'mr. and mrs.' My friend did that when she got married, and it was annoying cuz i felt like she didn't like FH or something, and i was in her wedding party, so the 4 of us hung out allll the time! When i spoke to the other BM's, they had the same prob and one of them asked her about it. She said she was too overwhelmed witht he invites and just put 'guest' on them all. It was ridiculous, but don't be hurt by it because I'm sure it's nothing personal!

I wouldn't be too upset... perhaps whoever addressed the invites ( a mom, a grandmother) doesn't know the relationship between you four. I might say something though to clear the air though since you seem pretty angry.

Actually, that is formal etiquitte if you are not married. When my sister got married last year, this is how she addressed the envelope to me and my fiance. I was a little hurt, but her guy was a stickler for 'formal' rules.
