So I've probably gone to 10 reception halls already and haven't found one that I absolutely LOVE everything about! All of them have pros and cons about them but I don't think I'll find everything in one place. We've been looking for a month now which I don't know if that's too long or not enough time, but I fee like I've covered all the halls on long island already! My FH is from OOT, so I didn't want to go too far out east.
We've looked at Fox Hollow, Jericho Terrace, Chateau Briand, Crest Hollow Country Club, North Ritz Club, Lenoards, Verdis, Larkfield Manor, Chateau La Mer, Manor, Lombardi's and Venetian Yacht Club.
I love the room at JT but think it might be a little tight and there is no outside area .... love Venetian but not as much food as JT. Ugggh! Haha.
Someone mentioned the Watermill - so hopefully we'll look there this weekend. Any suggestions of places I should look at?
Did this take you as long to find a place??
FM with any help!! :O)

I suggest all of the places that the girls recommended. SIL got married at the Watermill and it was VERY nice and the outside is so beautiful. DEF look at Woodbury Country Club.
I just wanted to say that looking for a month is TOTALLY ok. I looked for about a month and fell in love with Jericho Terrace. It was the one place I was DEAD SET AGAINST and when I walked in I got those butterflies in my stomach. I got them on The Inn at New Hyde Park but it was so expensive we would have had to cut about 75 people off our guest list to even think of affording it.
Take your time looking at RHs. Make sure you find the one that you love and the one that is just right for you and FH.
Good luck and enjoy the planning!

Not sure what type of atmosphere you are looking for...The Inn at New Hyde Park was really nice...also, Cold Spring Harbor CC just redid their entire clubhouse, so Im sure it is beautiful

Check out Harbor Links in Port Washington - there's not much on the website, but it is beautiful & has a beautiful outdoor space.

It really didn't take me long, but I knew what I wanted from the beginning.
Check out The Inn at New Hyde Park.
I was blown away the moment I stepped in the door.
It was out of our budget, but we said, what the hell, you only do this once

My FH and I saw over 15 places. When we left The Watermill, I couldn't even wait until we got into the car to call my mom. That's how I realized we had to book there! Definitely check them out...let us know what you think when you do!

Re: I can't find a RH that I love yet!?!? Uggggh
I think the best thing to do is to come up with a list of criteria. This is why it was so easy for us. We knew what we wanted! We only looked at 5 halls total, 2 the first time we booked our wedding, and 3 the second time
Think about location - in terms of both geographical area (Nassau vs. suffolk, north vs. south) and aesthetics. Does it need to be recessed from the road?
Think about grounds. Do you want a place with outdoor grounds for photos and/or ceremony? What do you want them to look like?
Do you need/prefer it to be one wedding at a time?
How many people do you need it to hold?
The fact that we initially wanted a place that was 1 wedding at a time and could hold over 200 people narrowed it down a LOT.
What is highest minimum you can guarantee?
What is your price range?
Are there any other features you are looking for? Water view? Hotel on site? 7 entree choices?
I think if you make a list of priorities and sit with the sites and services website or magazine (or just tell your LIW girlies) you can really narrow it down to a handful of places to visit and go from there.

My FH's family is from NJ ... 2 hrs to Nassau county. So we were looking in Nassau and not too far out in Suffolk.
I didn't look in Queens or Brooklyn - I don't know of any places there besides Russo's of course!
Try El Caribe in Brooklyn and The Riviera - which is where we are getting married. its a nice halfway point if your coming all the way out from New Jersey. The Riviera only does one wedding at a time and can hold more than 300+ people.
Also, i don't know if your interested, but the Vanderbilt in Staten Island is really pretty too.
