I don't get some people

I don't get some people

fmil and fsil strike again. My fh and I did our DJ forms last night cause they were due and his mother kept bugging us to put a song on the list cause his 35 year old sister wanted it. I said no cause I hated the song and so did my fh but my fmil and fsil won't let it go. I put the song on the do not play list a while ago cause I hate the song. The DJ said when we first made up the contract that he will not play anything anyone requests that is on the do not play list and he will not even come and ask us cause he knows the day of the wedding we shouldn't be bothered with this stuff. Fmil has been fighting with me and fh about this issue since last night and is going to keep pushing this issue until we give in.I don't get why some people won't let the bride and groom enjoy there wedding planning with out adding stress onto it. Wedding planning is stressful enough. I just wish they would stay out of our wedding planning my family hasn't tried to tell us what to do my family says do what you want and get what you want it is your day it is about you and your fh and the day is all yours. Thank God I have a good DJ that will listen to whatever I want to be played and what I don't want to be played. Sorry for the long vent needed to get it out. Wedding planning is not easy and brings the worst out in people. Other then that I am enjoying my wedding planning. happy planning

MY Question is: What songs are you ladies not having played because you or your fh hate it? Have you had anyone fight you on the songs you do not want played?

What song is it? I know i have alot of songs I do not like but if my FMIL really wanted me to play it I would, its not worth the fight, after all its just a song....if they really want it and its going to cause an argument or you are going to get stressed over it you should consider just playing it... you can go freshen up during those 3 minutes if you hate it that bad. Sorry thats just my opinion. I like to avoid any kind of unnecessary fighting.

Or you can tell them you will have it played even if it wont and hope they just forget it that day.. worst case scenario they will just request it.

The song is cotton eyed joe. I hate that song and always have. My fh, I and my parents are paying for this wedding. My parents aren't even saying anything about our wedding planning unless I ask for there advice. They stay out of my fh and I's wedding planning. They know it is stressful enough and they want us to enjoy our wedding planning and not get even more stressed out or cause a problem they just go with the flow. I love my fmil she is very sweet and very funny but sometimes she can cause my fh so much stress that he becomes cranky from her starting in with him. I try to do my best to snap him out of it and be there for him. I side with him and everything. We are a team now so what he says goes and what I say goes. We try to stick together and team up and stand up for each other when one doesn't agree with someone.

Re: I don't get some people

Fh hates the Electric slide and my family loves it but because we are the bride and groom what we say we don't want they understand. I told my family no Electric slide and to please don't ask for it it will not be played they said that's cool your the bride whatever you want it is your day. I also took out Jessie's Girl cause I can't stand that song. Plus my ex liked that stupid song and I do not wanted played at my wedding it is just wrong and bad karma. I want my day to be about my fh and I. I want us to have played what we want and not play what we don't want. I want people just to be happy for us and stay out of it. What songs are you ladies not having played because you or your fh hate it? Have you had anyone fight you on the songs you do not want played?

I would just say you aren't having any 'group dance' songs played and leave it at that.

please don not get upset over this.... easy fix!

i dont really care about any songs.

put the song on the do not play list and tell them you wrote it down as a must play ... they will never know and the day will pass and you blame the dj if they ask ... since they are not paying they wont see any forms and wont talk to the dj... if they request it at the wedding the dj just nods and says ok they dont say to the guest no i am sorry that is on the do not play list...

no point of having a disscuision with these people just nod and smile and ignore they are not paying for anything

We are not playing Cotton Eyed Joe either, but every other group dance is fined. FH doesn't like Love Shack by B52 or Tainned Love by Soft Cell. So for him the list is short. So far, I am on my thrid page of Do Not Play. I'm going to have a lot of people mad with me, so I feel your pain. It will get better.

Re: I don't get some people

I'm asking the DJ not to do electric slide and stuff on his own will, but if someone requests it he can play it. I want people to have fun, and if that will make people happy then so be it.

That is the #1 song on my do not playlist... right in front of the electric slide lol. I am lucky tho, my parents and FIL's dont care that we dont want them played.. thank god.

Re: I don't get some people

I didn't get as far as finalizing the list for the DJ yet, but I don't think I am going to put a do not play list... just to save drama. Yes, I would prefer NOT to play certain songs, but if it saves drama, it's only 2 mins, 5 the most, so it can't really be too bad...can it? I may change my mind, but that's it for now. LOL

I hope that this all works out for you...

Re: I don't get some people

Thank you so much for your help. You all helped me out and gave me great ideas. You ladies are the best. Those songs will not be played this is my fh and I's wedding and we are going to do whatever we want andnot let them wreck this for us or let them tell us what to do. Tuff they can throw a party and play that song all they want at there party I don't care but not at my wedding it is my fh and I's day not there's.

I agree - you can tell your fsil and fmil that you've requested it be played and then put it on the do not play list.

I refuse to do any group dance songs - I hate them and so does FH.

I agree. Just tell them 'we put it on the list' and just tell the DJ if anyone asks for group dances just tell them 'i'll try to hardest to play it' I wouldn't get upset over it. It's not worth it

Re: I don't get some people

Hey...I'm sorry to hear that things haven't gotten much better (I don't know if you remember, but I came to a few games at the NSDH league over the summer and we talked in the stands about the weddings)...

I would have to agree with PROBM. Say it's been taken care of, and when it's not played, you can always say after the fact that the DJ must not have had enough time to go through all the songs.

Good luck with everything...it's almost over!
