'We are confirming that we have amicably separated,' the pair said in a statement released by Richie's publicist, Cindy Guagenti.

In early December the couple called off their wedding, but rekindled their romance in early March.

First, former Laguna Beach star Kristin Cavallari was linked with Jessica Simpson's ex-husband – and now she's being eyed for Simpson's movie role.

Bill Gerber, the producer of last year's The Dukes of Hazzard, tells PEOPLE in its new issue that he is working on a prequel to the movie that brought Simpson (and her rear view) film fame – and he thinks Cavallari, 19, would fill out those Daisy Duke shorts quite nicely.

'She's at the top of the list,' he says. 'I like her innocence and her beauty.'

Why not just stick with Simpson, 25? 'It's a prequel, like Batman (Begins),' he says. 'We're going for a whole new cast.'

Simpson and husband Nick Lachey, 32, announced in November 2005 that they were separating. In March, Lachey and Cavallari were spotted flirting at various restaurants and parties – although Cavallari told PEOPLE, 'There's nothing to talk about, there's nothing going on. He's a nice guy, but I'd have to say we're just friends.'

Reps for Cavallari and Simpson did not return calls.

Just three weeks before his divorce with ex-wife Jessica Simpson, 25, is set to be finalized, Nick Lachey, 32, was spotted on a date in Westwood, CA, on May 24, with his latest fling, girlfriend Kim Kardashian, 25. The two were seen checking out an afternoon screening of The Da Vinci Code, their first official outing together as a couple. “They were holding hands throughout most of the movie, and shared popcorn and a drink,” an eyewitness tells Life & Style. “She was resting her head on his shoulder during the movie. It was definitely a date.” Afterwards, Nick dropped Kim off at her Beverly Hills house and went inside, staying for about half an hour.

As Life & Style first exclusively reported, Kim — daughter of late O.J. Simpson lawyer Robert Kardashian — started seeing Nick in April. Insiders close to the couple confirm that the two have been quietly going out for almost two months. ”It’s real, it’s more than a one time thing,” one insider tells Life & Style. “They’ve been keeping it very low profile, just going to friends houses and small restaurants.”

ET has confirmed that stylish songbird GWEN STEFANI welcomed her own little lamb, a baby boy born Friday in Los Angeles.

'Both mother and child are doing well,' a statement for the couple says.

KINGSTON JAMES McGREGOR ROSSDALE was born by Caesarean section at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and weighs 7 pounds 5 ounces.

This is the first child for the 36-year-old singer and her rocker hubby GAVIN ROSSDALE, the former lead singer of BUSH.

The two married at St. Paul's church in London in September, 2002 and first met backstage at a concert in 1995.

Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe to Divorce

After eight years of marriage and thirteen years together, HILARY SWANK and CHAD LOWE have decided to divorce, according to People magazine.

'Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe have jointly decided to divorce,' the couple's attorney told People. 'They continue to be friends and have the utmost respect for one another.'

The couple announced their separation back in January, but Hilary told ET at the Golden Globes that she was still hopeful: 'We're hopeful to work it out.'

Hilary and Chad married in October of 1997 and have no children together.

Hilary won the 2004 Oscar for Best Lead Actress ('Million Dollar Baby') and at that time thanked Lowe, 'last, but not least,' for the support -- after her glaring omission when she won the Oscar in 2000 for 'Boys Don't Cry' and forgot to acknowledge her then-hubby.

Lowe, brother of actor ROB LOWE, won an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in 1993 for his role in the TV series 'Life Goes On.' More recently he had a small role in the 2002 RICHARD GERE film 'Unfaithful.'

Thousands of miles from Hollywood but still within easy reach of celebrity hype, Angelina Jolie gave birth to Brad Pitt 's daughter Saturday in Africa, Pitt's publicist announced.


'The night of May 27, 2006 in Namibia, Africa, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcomed their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. No further information is being given,' publicist Cindy Guagenti said in a statement.


No photographs were being released, she added.


The baby's arrival had been the subject of intense press speculation in recent months, prompting the superstar couple to decamp to Africa for privacy. It escalated Tuesday when an e-mail Pitt sent to the Cannes Film Festival said he was unable to attend because of the baby's 'imminent arrival.'


The birth came a little more than a month after another blockbuster delivery: a girl born to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes .


Jolie and Pitt had powerful help protecting their privacy from the government of Namibia, which refused to grant entry to reporters seeking to cover the birth without the actors' written permission. The government arrested photographers, confiscated film, ringed the couple's hotel with heavy security and set up large green barriers on the beach to shield their family.


Jolie and Pitt were linked romantically shortly after appearing together in the 2005 movie 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith.'


Jolie, 30, is a frequent visitor to Africa and serves as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.


Jolie has two adopted children: toddler Zahara, from Ethiopia, and 4-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia.


Both had their surnames legally changed to Jolie-Pitt after Pitt announced his intentions to co-adopt the children.

Ben Affleck spent most his Memorial Day holday in the emergency room of a Boston-area hospital.

'Ben Affleck was treated for a migraine at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Mass., today,' said Affleck's rep, Ken Sunshine, in a statement on Monday. 'He was released this afternoon, and is recuperating at home.'

According to the Boston Herald, Affleck's wife, Jennifer Garner, drove him to the hospital at around 2:30 p.m. Affleck was released about two hours later after receiving treatment in the E.R.
