Re: I'm honeymooning in HAWAII !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

construction...oh yes, construction
we stayed in Wailea and passed a long stretch of new buildings going up on our way from the airport to our hotel. I think they're building up the South more so you may experience a little less of it than we did - not sure. we also hit some work on the roadways throughout our travels

The Road to Hana is not that bad. We enjoyed it. But I don't think it will make or break your vacation so hide if you wish. The best thing about it for us was that it provided many opportunities to swim under waterfalls which was pretty cool. (If you do end up driving it get a jeep or convertible - the open top helps on the small roads - less claustrophobic)

Kauai is DEFINITELY the better choice for the helicopter tour. 80% of the island can only be seen from the air or water so do this here!!! We went with AirKauai and were very happy with our tour.
P.S. Do this early in the morning before the wind kicks in - that's an important tip.

I did make it to the Princeville. Since we stayed on the East coast it was easy to drive both North and South. We had lunch at their pool cafe and hung out on their beach - all beaches are public.
The Princeville was beautiful for their scenery - to wake up to the NapaliCoast would have been great. The pool was cool - only 1 yet it seemed uncrowded & had a neat swim-up bar. The beach was pretty swimmable. (May-Sept, I think)
Hideaways Beach, Tunnels Beach, and Queens Bath up North were out of this world.

Were you considering Princeville?

What dates are you going, again?

Re: I'm honeymooning in HAWAII !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tarakinspa -

Personally, I don't think you're missing anything by not going to Oahu. We only stayed 1 night just to see Pearl Harbor which I was glad to have seen. I believe you can do day trips there from Maui. Our hotel concierge (Kea Lani) had information on that. It was like an 8AM -6PM thing.

If I had to do it again, I would have just done a day trip there but I didn't really know about them before I left.

The neatest part of our Oahu stay is that that's where we saw our biggest and darkest rainbow. It made for great pictures!!! Waikiki Beach was as crowded as they say. We took a quick drive up North which was pretty but we weren't crazy about the area as a whole.

Sure got us ready to get back to NYC though!

Re: I'm honeymooning in HAWAII !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not really considering Princeville, only b/c I heard something about it being a little snobby, even thought it's gorgeous. I'm pretty relaxed and down to earth.

We'll be leaving on the June 1st, Sunday, and returning the following Wednesday, the 11th.

I also will most likely just do a day trip to Oahu for Pearl Harbor, I'll tell FH he gets a choice, Pearl Harbor OR Road to Hana.

Ha !!!!!!

I hope the construction is done by next year

Re: I'm honeymooning in HAWAII !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I think Princeville does have a little bit of a snobby air too it - although not as much as is talked about. They're just mostly adults up there. Very few kids.

Hyatt was a nice Hawaiian hotel. You'll like it.

Again, we really love our hotel and it was 1/3 the cost. We enjoyed our bump to the Kea Lani afterward but still had a hard time paying $400/night for a room!!!!! We just couldn't do it the whole trip. Radisson was $135/night for an oceanview w/the Entertainment discount and we were so happy we saved some money to splurge elsewhere! Just my experience.

But Kauai was also our first island. So it was nice to have the moderate hotel first and then the deluxe. I don't know if I'd do it the other way around.
