If you had to cancel your wedding after over a year of planning....

Original post by Chloegirl

because your FI was sick....would you want to just postpone it and do it exactly how you planned at another time or would you just want to do something small away somewhere later on?

Re: If you had to cancel your wedding after over a year of planning....

First off a hug for you. Nobody should have to go through this at what should be a happy time. I won't bore you with the details but we almost cancelled our wedding because my mom was very sick. She wouldn't let me do this so we held our date and it came down to a very stressful few weeks before and bringing her home from the hospital the day before. Needless to say she got to be there and died while I was on my honeymoon.

My point is that when the day finally arrived the only things that were important were that my DH and his family and my family were there. Everything else was a bonus. It RAINED (alot) and I didn't care. The flowers could have shown up dead and it wouldn't have mattered what I learned from the whole thing is that it isn't all about the hoopla (sp) but about you and your FI and the people who love and support you no matter what.

So do what is best for you and him. And if that means putting off the hoopla and doing something small now than I say go for it and it can be as wonderful and romantic as the BIG wedding. If when he is better you want to do the big thing than you can. All the more reason for a big party. As for your vendors you may be suprised with what they will offer you. My hall was willing to let us cancel the morning of and give us a list of dates and we wouldn't have lost a penny. They even called me while I was on my honeymoon to see how my mom was.

Sorry I have rambled long enough. Keep us posted.

I just re-read the other posts, and doing a small civil ceremony in lieu of a wedding might be the way to go...and when FI is better, go ahead with the party.

I just hope he gets better, if you ever need to talk, I think you still have my phone number, or just FM me!

Just wanted to send you hugs.

Sounds like you and fiance are a great pair, both being strong and there for eachother.

All the best to you both and let us know how it all goes.

if he was sick, as in terminally or seriously sick...I'd move it up as soon as possible. I would not want to risk losing any precious time as husband and wife.

I do hope you and FH get a diagnosis soon - you'll be in my thoughts.

But as to your question - I would def. do something now, whether it be just you and him or you two and your immediate families. Is it possible for him to travel? Maybe do a small and romantic destination wedding.

Good luck to the both of you.

oh wow...I can't tell you how many hugs I want to give you!!!

I would have a civil ceremony right away!!! even take some of the wedding cash (not being spent in May) and fly first class to Vegas...with your closest family...

then plan on a 2 or 5 year anniversary party as you would your wedding

I'm sorry to hear you and your Dh are going through this.

If it were me, I would cancel the wedding, and have something small if DH is up for it, or postpone it until he is.

It sounds like you both have enough going on without having to worry about planning a wedding.

I hope you get some answers soon.

Chloegirl -
First let me say I am so sorry to hear that FH is ill....I can only hope he gets a diagnosis and treatment very very soon.

Some hugs for you both:

As for the wedding....I would do what a lot of other girls have said....I would have a small civil ceremony and have a larger party when FH is feeling up to it.

Good Luck and my thoughts and prayers are with you both and your families....

To you and your FI, you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Like the other have said if it was me, I would get married now, maybe have a cermony and perhaps dinner after with the family. Do what feels right for the 2 of you

I can why the stress of a wedding would be too much to deal with right now. Whats important is the two of you together, not the party. Celebrate when he's better but have each other now.

im so sorry... youll be in my prayers..

if it were me, we'd probably have a little ceremony now of just you two(if you were planning a church or temple) maybe they can accomodate you instead of a civil ceremony..... knowing us, we'd probably keep the hall and just have a reception celebrating our marraige(which would then be only 5 hours of a day, less tiring than a full day, and get wedding insurance incase were not upto that)

I'd probably go with a small ceremony now as well. Later on, when he's feeling better (and I pray that he will feel better soon!) you can have the big shebang.

Good luck and best wishes

Lots of prayers to you and your FH
I would do something sooner, even if it is just you and him or with your immediate families. The big party can always come later on. After all, it is about the two of you

I agree. I would have a small ceremony with just a few immediate family members now, and then plan for a bigger deal later, when he's feeling better.

I hope you're both okay.
