Im scared..need some womanly advice...

I had a check up with my gyno and she called yesterday and said I have some abnormal cells,that they could lead to cervical cancer..I started freaking out, but my sister says this is common, that I may go in and everything could be fine. This has never happened to me and Im terrified. They cant even get me in until the 30th, so does that mean its most likely nothing? What could cause a test to come up abnormal? We are TTC and Im freaking out right now.Has this happened to anyone???

Thanks.Im scared. My sister said if my doc thought it was an emerency, she would have gotten me in sooner..I cant stand to wiat two weeks...its torture. Im going to call everyday hoping for acancellation.

I agree with your sister - if the doctor was very concerned, she would have cleared time in her schedule for you immediately. It is so scary not to know what is going on with your own body, though, so whether or not it's an emergency, your anxiety is totally understandable.

Hasn't happened to me but happened to a good friend and to my brother's girlfriend. It is very common, but I know that probably doesn't make you feel any better. However, they went through a pretty simple procedure that took away the cells that were questionable. And my friend has a beautiful daughter, so I do not think it has an effect on fertility.

Gosh..youd think at 33 years..Id have heard of this well it does make me feel better hearing these stories, knowing that it is more common that I thought. it actually does make me feel better, Im still terrifed,and I will be until the 30th or when the results come back, whatever..but THANKYOU for ths supprt..Ill let you know what happens..

Hormonol changes, perfumes in panty liners, tampons etc can lead you to have an abnormal pap. Its happend to me, I, like you, freaked. I screamed I cried I told myself that was it I had cancer, I went for another pap....negative....and so has every pap after that. Its so common. Dont worry yourself.

it's defiitely common. And your sister is right. If it were an emergency they would get you in now, not the 30th! Everything's gonna be fine!

my friend just went through this to the point where they did a biopsy. It turned out fine but I hear its very common. I would be freaking out too but try not too. I am sure it will be fine!

Wow i didn't know how 'common' this was. I had it about 8 years ago and i am the only one who i knew who had this problem. I had to have a biopsy and it turned out that the cells were pre-cancerous. I had to have this freezing procedure done. And i get paps done 2x a year for 3 years after. I haven't had any problems since. So it is good that you caught it. But i do remember my gyno not making it out like an emergency but i did freak a little.

You will be fine..i am sure of it!

my cousin had cervical cancer and they did the surgery while she was pregnant.....you will be fine sweety!!!

Alicia, Maybe you could call and talk directly to the doctor and tell her you are extremely worried and even though it may be nothing, you just can't concentrate or focus and ask her if there is any possible way she can squeeze you in to help put your mind at ease!! Its worth a try!! I hope everything is ok. Good Luck!!
