Invite that says 'money from Invitees, NO Gifts'..

Original post by Kathy116

Am I the only one that thinks this is a little pushy or just 'different'?

It's from a BRIDAL SHOWER invite that I received.

question - what IF both bride & groom are establish - towles, blenders sheets etc..........then what?

IMHO - then there is no reason for a shower....
The purpose of a shower - or at least i think - is to help the bride and groom just starting out. I understand most brides dont agree with me - but i personally dont like showers at all.

That's disgusting! I dont even know if I'd go. I'd defintiely not bring cash. I will NOT have people tell me what to do. I can't believe the nerve of some people! IEWWWWWW! I mean, even if you want to say that, there are more tactful ways. like 'down-payment fund' shower, or I dunno, it's all tacky, but at least TRY to be creative. FInd like, a bridal monopoly..that's a lot of cash!

dats rude! and tacky.

my tradition, as far as what i'm used to with my friends and family, is actual gifts for the bridal shower (hence y we register), and then usually monetary gifts for the wedding...this way they've wished u well on both ends.

I would still bring a nice gift. Don't punish the bride for her bridesmaids' tackiness.

Maybe whoever is throwing the party didnt know better and the bride shouldnt suffer... although obviously she didnt register???
If your gunna be that tacky to only want money.. at least register at bed bath and beyond and go return it all for cash!!

a co worker of mien didn't register & her sister threw her small shower & by word of mouth she said, well, she didn't register b/c they dont' have room for any stuff & would really prefer money, so for the showere, I got her a book on buying your first house * a GC to Crate & barrel. She got a lot of crate & barrel & pottery barn gift certificats.
her famiyl got her a garter, a cake server, stuff liekthat.
a friend mad eup a jamaica themed hoenymoon basket.

there are other things you can do besides cash.
if i got an invite with no registery inforamtion, i'd ask the mom or MOh & if she wasn't registered I'd get a gift card.
You don't have to TELL me no blenders!

Ridiculous for people to ask for money instead of gifts. If they want money, they should tell their family members to tell close people money is preferred.

OMG that's TACKY and rude!! IF I went I'd only bring a gift. Even a registry is only a guideline, not absolutely set in stone. You never ask for money, I thought everyone knew that!

how come stars & celebs can say on their invits

'In lieu of gift, pls send yr donation to......'

if thats ok then ????

Ummm These people are rich they don't need money or gifts. You think its wrong for them to give their gifts to charity? I don't understand I wish I had everything I ever needed and I could do that. Why is that bad.

Asking for money IS SO RUDE and I agree I would go with a gift. TACKY.

U can register for honeymoons here

I totally agree that asking for money on an invitation is very rude, but in a way isn't having bridal showers and engagement parties the same thing? In a way it’s asking for even more gifts, besides the ones that people would bring to the wedding.

I personally could never understand why people have engagement parties… you are celebrating the union by having a wedding. What is being celebrated at an engagement party? The fact that he decided to propose?

We had an engagment party.... That is exactly what is being celebrated at an E-party the fact that we are going to get married and that we got engaged.
