I work with a large group of people, we interact closely every day. I would like to invite some of my work friends. . . .however, my problem is that I can't possibly invite them all. How do I go about inviting some co-workers, without hurting others. Should I not invite any of them, so that no one feels left out? It's not even that I don't like the people, who I wouldn't invite, I'm just trying to narrow down my list. Any advice?

Re: Inviteing People From Work? Advice PLEASE!
I only invited 1 person from work. She's the only one I socialize with outside of work and the one who knew everything about my wedding planning. My husband invited four co-workers and the 2 judges he clerked for (his clerkship ended 2 months before the wedding, but he continues to keep in touch with these people). I'm an attorney so I don't really have a direct supervisor or boss. Even though I'm friendly with other people at work, I wouldn't want to pick and choose among them because once you invite one person, you have to invite two or three more by association.
It gets tricky, especially if you invite some and not others. I would go through your list of people you're considering inviting one by one and ask yourself whether you'd be disappointed/regret not inviting that person. Think about how close you are with each person and if you want to invite them, do so. People will hopefully understand that you have financial and number constraints, and that not everybody could be invited. People may be offended, but it's your wedding and you should be able to invite whomever you want. Good luck.

I didn't invite anyone from work. I gave them all an invitation to the church if they wanted to come to the ceremony. Some came, some didn't.

We work together so this is a toughie for us too! But seriously, we really don't like most of them. We're inviting our bosses and my supervisor, that's it. I think of it this way, would you remain friends with these people after leaving the job? I would invite only those that you could answer 'yes' to.

I invited some people from work but couldnt afford to invite everyone... I gave them invitations when we were alone and I didnt really talk about them coming to the wedding in front of other people that were not invited... there was one person that got mad at me for not being invited but she got over it, I mean I told her straight up I couldnt afford to invite everyone and it wasnt personal and thats it...

What I have been doing is randomly having conversations whenever someone asks, about how expensive the wedding is and how the only real place to make cuts is with the guest list. I figure by the time the invites go out no one will be surprised if they don't get one, and those who do get one will know exactly how much I value the work relationship.
Oh! This is a good idea, I have been talking to some people about how it's very expensive, but I really like that idea, I guess if more people know how hard it is to pay for everything, they will understand better.
Then again I'm also now thinking of doing the all or nothing thing as other people have suggested, but I'm not sure. . . ther are a few people who I really want to be there.
Thanks for the advice.

FH only has 6 people in his department at work, so he's inviting them all. As for me, I work at a smaller law firm, in total there are 15 of us and I'm inviting everyone. I interact with everyone on a daily basis. If I couldn't invite everyone I would invite the partners and that's it. If you can't invite everyone, just do the bosses.
My law firm is 'small' but there are about 30-40 ppl. I have been here a number of years and have worked with or for maost ppl here. I know a few won't go b/c they never do (the always go to the church tho). I think I'm going to invite the lawyers (8 ppl with guests) and either everyone else single (with a few left out) or smaller # with dates, or a few single...I can keep going....
Another girl here invited a few without dates. It's hard b/c I have gone out with some here after work but in the past few years I haven't had the time. This is going to be tough! One of the ppl I'd really like to have there just left and the partners are mad that she went to a competing firm! So I don't think I can invite her! (she'll know about the church tho). Ppl here have invited the lawyers and a few others and posted the invite in the kitchen for the church.

I've been at my job for 6 1/2 years. There are two people I socialize with on a regular basis outside my office. Those two are invited. (FH & I have a bet over whether or not one of them will show). There are 3 other people I want to include in my heart of hearts. Then there are 3 others that I would include if money and space were no object. Then there is my immediate supervisor. I feel like if I invite anyone over those first two that I socialize with I have to include her. Problem - no social skills at all. Very smart lady, but seriously lacking in social graces. She never ever sits with her legs closed, and sometimes she doesn't wear underwear. (and yes, you get a view that would have caused the censors to actually edit out Sharon Stone ). This is part of the reason I keep telling everyone at work, that will listen, that financially we have to cut the guest list. The other part of course, is that I truly can't afford more than a certain number of people. Welcome to the B-List.

Do you invite co-worker's spouses with them? Or can you do a table of co-workers? That is where I am confused!

I agree with the 'all or nothing theory'. I own my business so I invited everyone, with guests. I have close and personal relationships with everyone here, so I felt it was the best thing for me to do. I am also involved in some other organizations, i.e. Rotary. My club has about 50 members (excluding spouses). Here is where I decided not to invite anyone. Unfortunately, though I have close relationships with several members I did not want to hurt anyone's feelings by only inviting a few members and to invite everyone would just be too much for me.
