Inviting co-workers

Inviting co-workers

I have been working at the same place for 2 1/2 years but was only working 2 days/week and just began working full-time in August. My wedding is in June. I am not sure about whether to invite my co-workers to the wedding. Def not inviting them to the shower. There are about 5 people I am considering inviting and would have to leave others that I am not close with out. Should I just not invite any of them? How do you feel about attending co-workers weddings? Are you happy about the invite or feel it is an extra expense and burden?

I'm working on my coworker guest list right now, too. There are some people I absolutely want to invite. If you do invite people, maybe ask them to keep it quiet so those you don't invite aren't offended?

I work two jobs and only inviting certain people because i don't have the room and not close with some of them. Invite who you want and just say to the rest that you just do not have the room for everyone else.

We had one table of 12 co-workers/guests and then 2 girls sat at a friends table bc I knew them prior to work.

We had a blast and I'm very happy with the way we handled the co-worker situation! I think it kinda is what it is - invite who you're close with!

This is a tough one. Because I have old coworkers who want to come and I worked with them for like 4 years.

I would say invite who you want to invite but its def tough. Some people may get offended but you cant invite everyone. .

I still havent sorted out the coworker situation myself.

As of right now I'm inviting co-workers from my old job. I'm waiting to see when we get closer to the wedding, if I become close with anyone at my new job. If I do, I'll probably only invite a selected few.

I am inviting 10 people from work. I work with about 85 people. I don't really care if anyone who is not invited is offended.

DH and I work together, so this was a tough one for us. I wanted to invite work people and he did not. Ultimately, we came up with a list of people and actually agreed on the people on the list. It was about half of the people we work with. If anyone who was not invited, was offended, word about it never got back to us. And for the most part, the people who were not invited, should not have expected to been invited for one reason or another ( p/t employee, just don't like you, how long have we known you, etc).
So, I fall into the invite the people you want category and you do not have to justify that decision to anyone.

if the 5 people you are considering are people who you feel really care about you, then i would most definitely invite them. i'm sure it would mean a lot to them to be a part of your special day.

if you're inviting only a handful of co-workers (which 5 is), then i don't think others will feel excluded. it's when you're inviting a LOT of co-workers and leave just a few out, that you can run into problems.

i'm actually in this situation myself... i've been teaching at my school for 8 years and have a lot of people i've grown close to. i'm having a hard time figuring out where exactly to draw the line between who gets invited and who doesn't.

oh, and in answer to your question... i personally enjoy getting invited to and attending co-workers' weddings - especially if it's someone i've developed a close relationship with.

Re: Inviting co-workers

I am lucky- I work at a tiny firm, so I only have 2 coworkers and then my boss and his wife. One coworker did not invite me to his wedding (he was not working with us at the time- he was in grad school) and the other I am inviting!

The only one weird is that I have a former coworker that invited me to his wedding ( I did not go, but sent a gift). He moved away a year and a half ago and I have only spoken with him occasionally. I was not planning on inviting him!

My FH is in grad school full time right now, and is inviting his former boss and two coworkers.

I'm only inviting a few co-workers but they are the ones that I actually hang out. I'm also inviting my 2 bosses and my old boss who I am still very close with.

i invited 5 co workers as well. And honestly put no thought into how others will feel. It is a wedding not a luncheon at a diner....but I have had my mind made up and stuck to it since I got engage. If I haven't spoke to you in about a year no invitation dont care what your label is to me. I invited the 5 and I am done with it. No one has snickered or talked about it.

I work at a small office and did not want any hurt feelings, so I am inviting the whole office. My guest list has increased and wish I wasn't inviting everyone, but its too late becasue I already told them they were invited. Just invite the people you really want there. ITA that you should ask them to keep it quiet.

As of right now I'm only inviting one of my co-workers. She won't say anything to anyone else though that she's invited bc we don't want to hurt their feelings. I think you should just invite the people your close with and make sure they don't say anything about it to the others.

i work in a small office also - my department has 7 people. there are 3 women i do not want there, so as a result, im not inviting anyone. FH is inviting a couple of friends from work though, but like 5 total, including his direct boss.

Re: Inviting co-workers

this is so tough b/c you dont want to hurt anyones feelings. but then again its like you have to invite your bosses

BUT i think you should only invite people who actually are your friends....a good question is--'if i didnt work here, would i still talk to these people?'

and if you can answer with a couple of names, then those are the people you invite LOL

the ones who are your true friends!

Re: Inviting co-workers

I want to invite all my co-workers (on the same shift I work). We are concerned we won't reach the minimum we have, and we don't mind if we go over. I was always told spend more money for more people to come, not to have more things or upgrades at the wedding. The only issue I'm having is 5 people need to work that day, and the day after so I'll have to find some per diems to work!
