is anyone else in denial over having to change their names?

Original post by MrsC2010

since being engaged I feel like I refuse to admit I will be changing my name soon.

I want to take FH's name bc I always thought I would take my husbands last name for the sake of our future kids etc. but i just hate his last name and like can't accept the fact that it will be mine soon.

people will jokingly call me by his last name and im like UGh no!

i dont wanna have different names and hypenating would be too long. I have tried to get FH to take my name but he's not into that

I am gonna have to face the facts soon!

FH's name means 'Good Time' in German so I'm kind of excited about that. However my new initials are LAG. Definintely less excited about that part.

Yes, Iam totally in denial...I dont want to change my name. I like my name. I was also married once before and went back to my maiden name, and it pains me to change it again.

However, FH comes from a very traditional family, I do not want to hurt their feelings by not taking their name...so I will...damn.

I am in the SAME EXACT situation! If you say my first name with his last name...its comparable to Josie Grossie. It's so emabrassing and I can hyphenate because it would be entirely too long. Only thing I have come up with is that I might start using my middle name too to break up the flow!

LOL this is too funny whenever i say that mines like josie grossie everyone laughs but mine rhymes also. I usually use my middle name on all legal documents so i was thinking of just having it say the full name from now on lol

I am in denial as well. I am not taking it the day we get married, I am easing into the new name. I will take it totally once we have kids. I hate FH's last name as well.... Krulish... ***! My Italian ancestors are rolling in their graves

Mine too......I'm going from a nice Italian name to Seylar......pronounced Si-lar...

I'm a little happy and a little sad to be closing the chapter on my last name.

My last name sounds kinda Greek, but it's actually Irish...it was misspelled when my ancestors were processed through immigration. So it went from Mc- to Mag-.

That always irked me...

And it's kind of a long name. There's also only one boy in the family who could carry on the name, unless my sister or my only cousin with the same last name keeps it going.

But it was my name for a long time.

Change is good though, and I will be looking forward to a 3-letter, one-syllable last name in a few months. But FH's last name is Bengali though it sounds Japanese.

Our poor children. IF we have any. And that's a big IF.

I am not sure how I am going handle the last name situation yet. FHs last name is Cabezas, which means 'head' in Spanish. It never really bothered me (it really didn't) because its childish to make fun of someone's last name. Since before I met him I always said I would keep mine when I got married. Now everyone thinks I dont want to take it because of its meaning.

which is not the case! I do feel bad for our children because FH and siblings were made fun of in school.

Kids are made fun of no matter what their names are... believe me the jerks will find something else! lol... my aunt and uncle shot down every name in the book because it could be made fun of... so they named my cousin Douglas... and now they call him Doug the Bug...

Thats honestly what I am going to have to do...there is no other option. I cant just have my first and his last name. People make fun of it now, I can't even imagine when it's real! Ughh...but l don't want to offend him or his family either.

I hate my last name. It is a crappy last name. But when its gone I will miss it

I like FH's Shea last name, short and sweet.

And as far as bad last names go....I knew someone who married into the last name 'Youngcuntz' ....

Nope, I can't wait to take his last name. If I could change it today I would.

FH has a nice last name but I just love mine and don't think his last name goes wih my first name. I will hyphenate it so that I have the same last name as our daughter...and future children

Everyone always says my last name wrong. But I'm sad to be losing it.

FH's last name is Castle in Spanish. Most people say that wrong as well.
